Chapter 149: Chapter 149
Ben’s response came shortly.
-
Ben: What for?
Camille: Just like normal. Give me the USB.
Ben: Wait, sis. Are you finally doing it?
Camille: Yes. I have no choice now. That will be more than enough.
Ben: At long last. You’ve been gathering evidence for a long time. Will you finally bring that man to justice?
Camille: I’ll make sure of it.
Ben: Okay. Where should we meet?

As Camille continued to text her brother, she felt a small sense of satisfaction.
Even though Christian had ordered her to delete all evidence from her phone, laptop, and online cloud storage, he didn’t know that she had hidden backups of that evidence elsewhere.
Several USB drives were safely tucked away somewhere he never would’ve imagined, and she planned to secretly give them to her brothers without Christian or his men noticing.
She would arrange to meet either Paul or Ben in broad daylight. They would pretend to walk past each other inconspicuously, and she would slip the USB into their coat pocket before continuing on her way as if nothing had happened.
She had done it a couple times before, so it was a piece of cake for her.
At present, she had several USBs hidden at her brothers’ homes, secured in a secret safe where no one could access them. Now, she needed those USBs to give to Michael for safekeeping and to continue gathering evidence against Christian.
‘It’s time to take you down, Christian Callahan,’ she thought to herself. ‘I’m not going to let you keep tormenting me anymore.’
She met Ben secretly on her way to work in the morning. He slipped a small plastic bag containing all the USBs into her exposed coat pocket and walked away without acknowledging her.
Camille placed her hand in her pocket to ensure that they were safe and secure. Then, she went to the company bathroom to transfer the bag into one of her secret coat pockets so it wouldn’t accidentally fall out or be seen.
With the plastic bag now safely hidden, she felt ready to hand it over to Michael and move forward with her plan.
She reached Michael’s doorstep and took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell.
The seconds felt like an eternity before she finally heard footsteps approaching. When the door swung open, Michael stood there with a mixture of concern and relief on his face.
He was dressed casually in a shirt and dark pants, an effortless look that only added to his handsome appearance and undeniable charm.
Something stirred inside her, a sensation foreign yet strangely familiar.
She refused to acknowledge it, though. There would be a better time for such feelings later.
“You’re here,” he said softly, stepping aside to let her in. “Come in.”
She stepped inside, her eyes darting around nervously as Michael closed the door behind her. The warmth of the house contrasted with the cool night air, but it did little to ease her tension.
Michael led her to the living room where they could talk privately. “Did anyone see you?” he asked, his gaze searching her face for any sign of distress.
“I don’t think so,” Camille replied, removing her hat and letting her hair fall loose. “I was careful.”
Michael nodded and motioned for her to sit on the couch. He sat across from her, his expression intense. “All right. Tell me everything.”
Camille took a deep breath to steady herself. “Christian thinks I’m here to gather information about you and the McGregors. He believes we’re starting an affair because I told him I wanted to be with you instead of him, just like we planned.”
Michael nodded silently, encouraging her to continue.
“I have all the evidence right here,” she said, reaching into her coat pocket and handing him the plastic bag. “This is everything I’ve been able to gather over the past ten years. Financial records, emails, recordings, anything that can expose Christian and his family’s crimes. They’re all in soft copies, but they’re scanned and legitimate. I made several backups and wrote down details of the sources. You’ll find them all here. Just let me know if you need anything else.”
Michael took the bag from her and opened it, revealing several USBs inside. “This is incredible, Camille,” he murmured. “I think this is more than enough to start an investigation.”
She nodded. “I don’t think it’s enough on its own, but I’ll pass the baton to you. You have more resources, power, and connections than I do. If you can corroborate this and gather more evidence, we might be able to send Christian to prison for life. But we have to be careful. Christian expects updates from me. If I don’t give him something, he’ll get suspicious.”
Michael leaned back, deep in thought. “Then we’ll need to feed him false information. Enough to keep him satisfied, but nothing that could hurt us.”
“Exactly,” Camille agreed. “We have to be strategic. I can tell him that you’ve been reluctant to share any real secrets, that you’re cautious. Maybe even hint that you suspect he’s up to something.”
He nodded. “That might work. You could also mention that I have a secret safe and a computer password, and that you’re still trying to figure out a way to access them. As the joint project announcement approaches, we can start leaking bits of fake information to throw him off our trail.”
For the next two hours, they meticulously planned their strategy. Camille would report to Christian regularly, giving him just enough to maintain his interest while withholding critical details.
It felt freeing in a way. Michael was intelligent and cautious, while Camille was more shrewd and had better intuition. They made a great team together.
She really should’ve done this much earlier.
As their conversation continued, Michael reached out and gently took Camille’s hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “I know this is dangerous, Camille, but we’re in this together. We’re going to bring him down. I promise.”
Camille looked into his eyes, feeling a surge of warmth and determination. “I trust you, Michael,” she said softly. “We can do this.”
