Chapter 131: Chapter 131
Jenkins exited the interrogation room to find Michael and Will waiting for him outside.
“How’s it going so far?” Michael asked quietly.
“He’s not talking,” Jenkins said wearily. “Thompson was the same, as I heard from my colleague who was in charge of his interrogation. It’s going to take us a while to convince this new guy. Since this seems to be a complex case with a new suspect, we have to be thorough. Mr. McGregor, I’d like to ask you… are you sure this man is involved?”
Michael nodded. “I am quite sure, Detective. He has a fake passport and a fake ID. He was also trying to leave the country just a few days after the accident. I’m sure that’s enough grounds for suspicion.”
Jenkins nodded slowly. “Well, we’ll find out soon enough when he starts talking. Based on his demeanor and his choice of words so far, I have a feeling we might be on to something. I’ll contact you as soon once we get something out of him. For now, just cooperate with us. The police also don’t want your family’s name tainted by this incident, especially if you’ve been framed.”
Michael nodded. “Thank you, Detective.”

She was still in the middle of her work, but there was a growing dread in the pit of her stomach that she couldn’t ignore. This was one of the rare times when she couldn’t concentrate on her work no matter how hard she tried.
Even though she had resolutely decided to do this for Michael’s sake, she was suddenly feeling bits and pieces of the aftermath of her decision, and it was terrifying.
She was all alone. Her brothers were still busy taking care of their father while she was stuck with the one man, the bloody killer, in one company and under one roof.
When she thought back to that day, it still made her sick to her stomach.
That day when she found out an ugly truth that showed her another side of Christian Callahan.

[A few days ago…]

“So she’s in a coma right now?”
“Y—Yes, sir.”
“You failed to kill her as planned.”
“Yes, sir.”
“You understand what this means, don’t you?”
“…”
“How incompetent.”
“I’m so sorry, sir. I assure you…”
“There will be no next time.”
“B—But sir!”
“Hmm. Would you like another chance?”
“O—Of course, sir! I will do anything!”
“You know… I expected a lot from you. I was assured that you would do the job cleanly and perfectly.”
“I—I did, sir. I hit her right in the front and took off! But then her airbag must have—”
“Her airbag?”
“Yes. They said her airbag saved her.”
“Didn’t I clearly tell you to remove it?”
“I did, sir!”
“Is that the truth?”
“Yes! I swear.”
“Interesting.”
“Sir?”
“So he had it replaced, huh? I underestimated him.”
“…”
“All right, then. Do this instead. Leave the country and change your identity. I’ll give you fake documents for now so you can bypass security. However, as we agreed, you will not reveal my identity to anyone.”
“Of course, sir! That’s our agreement. I will never break it!”
“Good. Then I will give you one more chance. Go to the airport and leave the country today. I will make arrangements later.”
“Yes, sir. Thank you very much!”
“And one more thing…”
“Sir?”
“You’re a fast thinker for dyeing your hair right after. They’d be none the wiser.”
“O—Of course.”
“You may go. That’s all.”
The man hurriedly left the office with his head bowed. He looked left and right cautiously before heading on his way. He even made sure to make his footsteps as quiet as possible.
Even as he was leaving, he still kept an eye out for servants who could pass by and spot him. He brought up his hood, covered his hair, and even pulled out a mask from his pocket to conceal his face.
But he failed to notice a shadow from around the corner that immediately hid as he stepped out.
Camille hid behind the wall, breathing heavily. Sweat was pouring down her forehead as she tried to make sense of what she had heard. She could feel her fingers trembling and her mind slowly turning blank from incredulity.
What on earth had she just listened to? Now what was she going to do?!
