“I’m fine,” Michael said flatly.

“You don’t need to apologize. You’re not the one who hit me.”
Will hesitated, but spoke his mind anyway. “Look, Mike… I know Dad can be aggressive at times, and yes, he’s wrong for what he did just now, but—”
“I’m sorry, Will, but I’m not in the mood to listen to this right now.” Michael opened his eyes and looked at his brother. “What’s the update on Joanna’s condition?”
“The doctors…” Will looked overly concerned, the stress lines on his face more pronounced than ever. “They say it’s going to be difficult because she has multiple wounds on her body and there’s so much blood…” His voice trailed off for a moment. “…It was a bad accident, Mike.”
Michael took a deep breath. “What about Rick and the kids? Do Kenny and Charlie know?” he asked quietly.
“Rick went on a business trip a few days ago and is now taking the fastest flight home. As for the kids, they’re at the house with the nanny. Rick doesn’t want them to see or know about their mother’s current condition. Not yet, at least.”
“I see.”
The wait was agonizing. John McGregor sat at the far end of the bench, furiously talking on the phone. He seemed to be barking orders and demanding updates from his men.
Diana, on the other hand, had fallen silent, muttering to herself as if reciting a prayer. She was still in that trance that nobody could break her out from.
When the doctor finally emerged from the emergency room, they all stood up immediately.
“The patient is okay,” he told them, and their bodies instantly sagged with relief. “It’s a miracle. She flatlined for a moment before her heartbeat returned to normal. The surgery was successful, and we will now move her to the VIP room.”

“Follow me outside,” he ordered.

“Your assistant!” John exclaimed, face red with fury. “He’s been arrested for the attempted murder of your sister!”
