Chapter 629: Chapter 629

Lady Ling stared at the cursed sky, her white hair blowing gently in the burning wind.

Her expression was calm, but there was a strange sadness in her eyes.

"This curse is usually sealed," she said softly. "But for the past three years, I have been unable to hold it down. And because of that, these curses were freed again."

Gu Jin raised an eyebrow.

"Three years? You mean... this has been growing all this time?"

"Yes," Lady Ling nodded. "And it will continue to grow unless someone stronger takes my place."

Before Gu Jin could say anything, she noticed something strange.

At the farthest corner of the sky, something started to bubble and twist.

A new eye formed slowly, oozing out of the darkness like a disgusting wound.

The sight made her stomach turn. "Ugh..." she muttered, quickly looking away. "That’s disgusting..."

But even though she looked away, something deep inside her stirred.

She felt a strange, powerful urge to burn every single eye with her dark fire.

Lady Ling watched her silently and chuckled.

"Even if you use a holy element like the Dark Fiery Element, you will not be able to erase them," she said gently.

Gu Jin blinked in surprise. "Even dark fire won’t work?"

"No," Lady Ling shook her head. "They are not normal beings. They are ancient curses, older than our world. They can only be sealed, never destroyed."

Gu Jin bit her lip. "Then... is there any way to deal with them?"

Lady Ling sighed and shook her head sadly.

"I cannot. But..." Her eyes softened as she looked directly at Gu Jin. "I will make sure someone can."

The sincerity of her gaze shocked Gu Jin.

She stared back, speechless, but then her eyes became firm.

She nodded slightly as if to say: I will do it. Whatever you ask, I will not run away.

Lady Ling’s lips curved into a small smile. "Good," she said.

"Before we begin, you must understand what a Mighty Mage really does and what your role will be from now on."

She closed her eyes, and a bright white light burst out of her body.

It was so bright that Gu Jin and Long Yifan had to shield their eyes.

The light spread in every direction. It covered the ground, the air, and even the cursed sky.

The millions of disgusting eyes vanished, and instead, a sky full of heavy black clouds appeared.

Gu Jin’s eyes widened. "You... sealed them?"

"Temporarily," Lady Ling replied. "This is what I do. I seal the curses again and again. But the cracks in the barrier keep appearing. That is where you come in."

Suddenly, a bright crack appeared far away in the air. It looked like someone had torn open the fabric of the world itself.

Long Yifan’s eyes went wide. "What... is that?"

"That is a tear," Lady Ling explained. "It appears when the curses try to break through. Your job is to fill it with magic and keep it sealed." The rıghtful source is nοvelfire.net

Gu Jin and Long Yifan exchanged a look. Lady Ling walked toward them and continued calmly.

"Gu Jin, I know you have the necromancy element, a powerful dark element. And Long Yifan, from what I see, you have almost every element except water."

"That’s right," Long Yifan nodded.

"Then here’s what you must do," Lady Ling said. "Gu Jin, channel your necromancy mana into the tear. Long Yifan, use your light element mana. The balance of dark and light will stabilize the seal."

Gu Jin and Long Yifan nodded at each other and turned toward the glowing crack.

They closed their eyes and began to channel their energy.

Dark strands of mana flowed from Gu Jin’s hand like black smoke, swirling into the tear.

From Long Yifan’s hand, bright golden light followed, weaving with the darkness.

Slowly, the tear began to shrink. The tense atmosphere around them lightened just a little.

"It’s working," Long Yifan said quietly.

Gu Jin nodded, sweat forming on her forehead. "But it’s so hard..."

Time passed slowly. Ten minutes. Twenty. Thirty. They kept channeling their energy, their bodies growing tired.

At last, Lady Ling raised her hand. "Enough. You can stop now."

They hesitated but finally pulled their hands back. The tear flickered weakly for a moment, then closed completely.

Almost instantly, the disgusting eyes returned to the sky, blinking down at them again.

Gu Jin tried not to look at them. She turned to Lady Ling instead. "What else do we need to learn?"

Lady Ling folded her hands behind her back.

"What you just did is the main duty of the Mighty Mage. The previous couple did the same thing every day. But now that you are here, you will take their place."

Long Yifan blinked. "Wait... are you saying...?"

"Yes," Lady Ling said with a smile.

"If you continue to perform well for the next year, I will officially name you as the next Mighty Mage couple. You won’t even need to compete for the position."

Gu Jin and Long Yifan stared at her in shock. "Really?" Gu Jin whispered.

"Yes," Lady Ling nodded. "With great power comes great responsibility. But with great responsibility also comes great rewards."

She paused, then continued with a small smile.

"Speaking of rewards... your current strength is far too low for the task. That’s why I have prepared something for you. I have asked someone to open the cultivation pool for one month."

Gu Jin gasped. "The cultivation pool?"

Cultivation pool... the top resource... as long as a mage enter this place, they can upgrade from Super Rank to Heaven rank in just 3 days!

Long Yifan’s jaw dropped. "But that place... in one month, you can cultivate as if you trained for ten thousand years!"

Even someone like Long Yifan, who had seen many kinds of treasure and dealt with them... was surprised.

"Exactly," Lady Ling said. "If you train seriously, you can easily reach Transcendental Stage Nine."

Gu Jin’s hands trembled slightly. "Stage Nine... in just one month..."

Others need to take at least 2000 years to reach even the transcendental stage 5. While they? They were given the chance to reach it in just a month!

Long Yifan laughed in disbelief. "No wonder every mage dreams of becoming a Mighty Mage. The resources are unbelievable."

"Wait, Lady Ling... if you can open the cultivation pool, why don’t you use it to break through yourself? You’re stuck at Transcendental Stage Ten, aren’t you?"

Lady Ling chuckled softly.

"I am no longer truly at that stage. My real strength is already above it. My rank is at least Saint Stage Five."

Gu Jin’s eyes widened. "Saint Stage Five?!"

"Yes," Lady Ling said calmly. "And once I use the cultivation pool again, I plan to raise my power to Saint Stage Ten. It may take a year, but when I finish, I will be able to protect this world without fail."

Long Yifan stared at her in awe. "With power like that, no one could ever harm you."

"Exactly," Lady Ling said with a nod. "That is why I brought you here. I need a break from holding the barrier, and I know that you, Gu Jin, have the strength to keep the curses sealed while I train."

Gu Jin tilted her head. "Wait... did you test me before? Or maybe... did you have a vision about me?"

Otherwise, why was she so sure that she(Gu Jin) could handle everything?

Lady Ling smiled mysteriously. "Both. I had a vision, and I did test you. Think back. I am sure you remember."

Gu Jin froze. She tried to recall moments from the past...trials, strange coincidences, hidden tests... but before she could think of anything clearly, Lady Ling waved her hand.

"Think about it later," she said gently. "For now, come with me. We should visit the cultivation pool together."

Gu Jin and Long Yifan followed Lady Ling silently as they left behind the cursed land.

Finally, they reached a small hut sitting alone in the middle of a glowing field. It looked ordinary, made of wood and stone, almost too simple for someone like Lady Ling.

"Here we are," Lady Ling said, stopping in front of it.

Gu Jin blinked in confusion. "This... is the place?"

"It is," Lady Ling replied with a small smile. "Do not judge by appearance. What you see is never what it truly is."

She opened the door and stepped inside. Gu Jin and Long Yifan followed her.

The moment they entered, their eyes widened in surprise.

The hut was enormous on the inside. Endless hallways stretched out.

There were stairs going both up and down, floating orbs of light lighting every corner.

"It’s bigger inside," Long Yifan muttered, touching one of the floating lights. "Like a hidden dimension."

"Exactly," Lady Ling said. "Follow me."

But as they walked deeper into the hut, Gu Jin and Long Yifan’s curiosity got the better of them.

They noticed a narrow stairway leading downward, glowing with faint blue light.

"Should we... take a quick look?" Long Yifan whispered.

Gu Jin hesitated. "Maybe just a peek."
