Chapter 1096: Chapter 1096

Once the deafening roar ripped through and Davey dropped down, an enormous space he hadn’t anticipated began to reveal itself before him.

Though half of it had been destroyed, it was clear at a glance how massive the space was. Even within the wreckage, traces of what had once been there were still visible.

“Master Davey, mission complete,” Rinne reported with a slightly weary expression.

Davey looked at her and walked over. “What happened to you? Did you overuse Sephirothization or something?”

“Result of negligence. Rinne reports that she has failed to properly recharge her energy.”

He wasn’t exactly surprised to hear that. She’d been so focused on eating lately that she’d neglected to absorb energy the natural way for her.

“What kind of robot slacks off on her job?”

“Rinne has no argument or mitigating factors. Emotion circuits are overheating rapidly. Rinne states this as shame.”

“Forget it. It’s fine as long as you’re not seriously hurt,” he said calmly.

He then looked up and took in the utter devastation in the surroundings. “Did a civil war break out or something?”

What he saw was a giant monster with a body covered in countless tentacles like some massive octopus, sporting a mouth filled with rows of circular, jagged teeth. Instead of a tongue inside its mouth, there was something that looked like the upper half of a human body.

It was hard to tell if it was male or female, and the creature had its tentacles coiled around a spiritual entity.

“Wasn’t that thing on our side?”

But someone else answered instead of Rinne.

“Tsuna?” Davey called her name in disbelief, and she shouted with wide eyes.

[Sorry, but help that guy, will you?!]

Hearing her request, he silently turned to look at the spiritual body facing the monster. One of his legs was gone, along with an arm. He was clearly not in good condition, and it was obvious that it had taken a beating, with the monster having the upper hand.

“That’s pretty weak for a spiritual entity.”

“Rinnes estimates damage caused by Rinne’s earlier attacks.”

Even so, he felt far too weak.

“No way you could’ve found this place from the surface! H-How did you get in here?!”

“I dug down, obviously.”

“D-Don’t be ridiculous!!” the monster screamed, clearly terrified.

Its smooth scalp bulged with veins as it howled in rage, “I asked how you found this place!!”

“You’re a funny one.” Davey gave a dry chuckle and took a single step forward.

The monster flinched and backed away, but it was too late. His crimson blade had already cut through a portion of its tentacles

“Gah! H-How?! That sword didn’t even move!!” the monster shouted in disbelief, having braced itself for a regular attack.

Although it seemed like Red Ribbon hadn’t moved at all, Davey had definitely swung her.

He dryly chuckled. “Just because you didn’t see it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.”

The monster gritted its teeth. “Damn it! You brought that monster here, didn't you, Donna?!! You useless bitch!!”

She had put up a decent fight, but she had gravely underestimated the Shadows and made her biggest mistake. Even when insulted, there was almost no chance she could even respond to the monster’s shouting as she was most likely being restrained by the Shadows at this point.

The chaos that came with the monster’s presence was something that Marquis Barogo’s side had decided to handle. Though Davey wasn’t on the best terms with him, after the marquis had been stabbed in the back by Vatan, he was more than willing to join forces with Davey. As long as it meant screwing Vatan over, of course.

With a grimace on its face, the monster suddenly gulped down the spiritual entity in a single bite.

Davey instinctively swung Red Ribbon and sliced the monster in half, though it didn’t die.

“Aaaagh!! Damn it! That hurts!!” It let out a bloodcurdling scream and thrashed wildly, which caused the already-crumbling space around them to collapse even faster.

Davey couldn’t grasp its full size yet, but he was certain that what he’d seen was just a small part of the whole. He considered hitting it with a curse and drying it out to the roots, but if he did that, there would be nothing left to interrogate. In that case, he figured it would be better to hold back a little.

Twisting and writhing in pain, the monster glared at Davey once more before releasing a black, inky substance.

Just as Davey erected a barrier to block the ink, the creature shattered the ground and disappeared with an exceptional efficiency and familiarity.

Once the monster vanished, rocks began to tumble down through the opening it left behind, accelerating the collapse of the space.

Davey turned to Rinne. “Rinne.” For more chapters visit novelꞁire.net

“Start by explaining what happened.”

Davey needed to know whether he should walk away from the situation or go after it and crush them.

Still, these were the bastards who had hurt his former disciple, Tsuna. He’d make them pay, for sure. Still, if he were being honest, jumping into another nation’s mess like that wasn’t something he welcomed.

When Davey had charged into foreign lands in the past, it had usually only been because it involved his family, the Heins Territory, or someone directly tied to him.

After hearing the current situation from Rinne and Tsuna, Davey didn't hesitate to yank Tsuna's ear.

“You idiot! Wandering around the streets without an escort? Are you a kid or something? Huh? Walking around without a care in the world? Didn’t I tell you that people who live only for today without thinking about tomorrow don’t care about consequences? You think scumbags will just let you walk by untouched since you're the Chancellor?”

Of course, it would take a lunatic to actually lay their hands on Tsuna. After all, public sentiment toward her in the Alberta Kingdom was overwhelmingly positive. Though, to be fair, that was thanks to the legacy of the late Chancellor.

Based on his own investigation, not even the major gangs or underground organizations within Alberta dared to mess with the Murgent ducal house. It wasn’t because they were afraid of its strength, but because of the goodwill and policies the late Chancellor had implemented during his lifetime.

[Ahh!! Let go. Let go of me!!]

“I told you not to trust people so easily.”

[You're hurting me! I said it hurts!!]

Seeing her flail around in the air, Davey let go of her. She then shouted at him with tears brimming in her eyes.

[How can a person touch a ghost?!]

Davey grabbed her head and glared. “Hey, I guess someone’s not listening to me right now? Is that it?”

“Sorry? Ha. Didn’t I tell you what kind of disaster can happen simply by saying sorry, when it comes from a chancellor like you?”

[Then it’s your fault! Why are you hitting a ghost?!!]

“Now you think you can talk back to your great and noble instructor ? Like you didn’t do anything wrong?”

Davey gave her forehead a hard flick. Tsuna screamed and tumbled through the air.

Even he knew his reaction was a bit over the top. Perhaps he had gone a little overboard teasing her because of the strange sense of relief that she might still be savable. She was clumsy, yes, but he had become somewhat attached after having spent a few days teaching her.

“Still, you seem to be holding up alright.”

Tsuna, who had been glaring at him and grinding her teeth, suddenly froze at his words. She looked at him with trembling eyes, then hesitantly asked a question.

[Were you... surprised I died?]

“Surprised, my ass. It just made my dreams all weird.”

[Ahaha! So you really were worried!]

She laughed awkwardly and turned away. Then she hunched her shoulders and started trembling.

Seeing that, Davey asked playfully, “Hey. Are you crying? You really crying right now?”

Her voice, laced with tears, caught Davey off guard instead.

‘Why is she really crying?’ he thought.

Despite just being a spirit, she trembled and turned her back on him to quietly sob to herself. He wondered if teasing her at such a tender moment had led her to act that way.

“Hey. I’m sorry, alright? I didn’t mean to joke around with someone who's, you know... dead.”

She sniffled and spoke with a tremble.

[It’s not... because of that.]

“You’re supposed to look at someone when you're talking to them.”

[Right now... I can’t really do that.]

She then suddenly took off running, Davey just shrugging his shoulders as he watched her go.

Even though he had found her soul stone, Tsuna had already died. Once things were settled, it’d be best to ask Jeo-Seung to escort her into the cycle of reincarnation alongside the late Chancellor.

At that moment, Rinne slowly reached out and tugged on his pants.

“Master Davey, Rinne wants repairs. Rinne requests divine power.”

Ever since awakening her Sephirothization, as long as Davey provided divine power, Rinne could recover or repair herself manually, which made things much easier.

He placed his hand on her back as she lay limp on the ground, then channeled divine power into her. Her heart began spinning rapidly, drawing in energy.

After a while, once she fully recovered her strength, Davey stood up. “Alright, I guess it’s time to go hunt down that runaway.”

Tsuna, who had wiped her eyes with her sleeve, turned around and looked at him. When their eyes met, hers suddenly widened, and she bowed deeply.

[I... I have a question...]

“Spit it out. Don’t even think about running away again; it’ll just be annoying.”

After hesitating, she bravely asked her question.

[Can I still be saved?]

Davey slowly closed his eyes, then opened them with a cold, firm gaze. “No. It’s impossible. You’re already dead.”

“I’m not happy about it either, but we have to face reality.”

It was harsh, but the sooner she accepted it, the better.
