Chapter 6: Chapter 6

Avatia's POV

The silence was deafening. We've been in this car for about 15 minutes and I couldn't take it anymore. "Where are we heading to?"

Roberto looked at me for a split second before diverting all his attention to the road. We were heading downtown but I needed to know exactly where he is taking me to.

" 'Berto?"

"Downtown. " I could hear the 'duh' tone which caused me to roll my eyes. The only thing I'm good at.

"I know. Where exactly? " I didn't fail to emphasize my own 'duh'

"As I told you, I'm not kidnapping you. No need to be scared," he answered like it was the most obvious thing.

This guy. I just shut up and look out at the amazing buildings of New York. I mean, back in Ohio we've got great buildings too but in New York, it's the bomb. The car pulls to a stop and my mouth hangs open as I take in the sight in front of me. This has to be the most beautiful house I've ever seen. The hotel-like building was spectacular.

"Little one, we should go in, you know, meet the boss? " Roberto said, more like asked, causing me to snap out of my thoughts. Whoever owns this house, no doubt, is a filthy billionaire. We walk up the stairs, passing a very beautiful and large pool.

Roberto enters a code on a pad I never noticed and the door automatically opens. "Wowwwww" I exclaimed like a 4-year-old who went to Disney land for her first time.

Roberto had this amused look on his face as he shook his head softly. "You know, you look like a baby but I expected a mature character behind the looks. Now I know you are a little one."

I walk to the floor-length window and admire the view of the environment. That reminds me. "So what's my job here. This isn't an office and this house is---"

"Can you cook?" He asked.

I shook my head a little. "I can try."

"Wrong answer. It's supposed to be a yes or no. How can you work in an office if you can't answer a simple question? " Roberto was talking as he typed something in his phone.

I had more time to look at him. He's a hunk. No shaking on that. He smirked as he noticed me staring and cocked his eyebrows waiting for an answer. "Hey! Don't underestimate me. I can type and I know a lot about marketing and management. I took a course in business management and now when I enroll in NYU, I'm gonna major in it. There! " I pointed out and smiled at my victory. "One point for me. Zero for you"

He just smiled and continued with what he was doing. "Where's this boss. We've been here for a good while"

"8 minutes, 31 seconds? " I heard the unmistakably Russian accent from the staircase. I was so scared to face Mr. Black. It's him. I know it's him. "Roberto, excuse us. "

From where I stood, I couldn't see him exit. I only heard the sound of the door opening and closing. Mr. Black cleared his throat and I took that as my clue to face him. I slowly turned around and my breathing stopped. Mr. Black seemed to get hotter and handsome every second. His grey eyes, the most beautiful shade to look at and the black tee he wore did no mercy in hiding his abs and muscles. If Draya was here, she'd be drooling. Well, I am too, but on the inside. Going back up, his jet black hair looked so soft. Oh my pink gosh, where did I take the courage to openly stare at a man. I am so getting spoilt. Mom's not going to be happy if she finds out. "Are you done staring, princess? "

I know I'm as, red as a strawberry. I blush so hard. I nodded embarrassedly. "S-So you're the boss? I stuttered.

"Just so you know, I'm not giving you a job because I feel pity for you losing your job or anything." And there he goes again in spoiling the mood.

I just nodded. Not talking because I fear this man. "Then why do you want to give me a job? "

"To free your little mind about lying to your mom. And renew those hidden potentials of yours that died along with your dad," he answered with a pained voice. I caught him sneakily checking me out. Thank goodness I'm well dressed.

If I wasn't sitting, I'd have fainted from shock. "How'd you know that? Mr. Black, are you stalking me? "

"Mr. Black? Is that what ya call me?" The amused Russian asked making me realize this is the first time I openly called him by his nickname. "Huh? "

I shyly nodded. Well, if I lie to mom and he knows, he'd see through if I lie to him. Just then remember what he did to me. And him bringing my late dad into this was not helping either but I won't let him know that's an emotional part. "But so you know, I'm not working for you. You can't make me lose my job and expect me to work for you." I stand up to walk out but stop at his words.

"You leave, and you remain jobless for life. Believe me, I can do that princess. "

I turn and walk up to him. He's way taller than I am. Insanely tall. It goes perfectly with his physique though. I poke his rock-hard chest as hard as I can. "You can't do that. I'd sue you."

He let out a bored laugh. "It advises princess, work for me. "

I wasn't going to accept but something about that princess he calls me just makes me sit down. "What do I get to do then? "

"Paint. I know you love painting so much but you've not done it for a while. I'm giving you a chance to do it again." Mr. Black answered. He knows me so much. It's scary. But my eyes start watering. The last time I painted was with daddy. I don't know how to hide my emotions. I can't get mad at him for bringing back old memories. On the contrary, I should be grateful for him giving me a chance. But how does he know about this?

"I just know you love it." He answered my unasked question. "You start tomorrow.

I'd pay you well princess, don't let that part stress you out. You get to have free breakfast and lunch and a cool environment. All you have to do is paint. Paint your beautiful heart out. Bring back that dead talent to life. "

I didn't know what to say in this situation but I knew what to do. I walk over to him and hug him as a stray tear makes its way down. "Thank you, Mr. Black. You don't know what this means to me. Making me do something so small, yet so important. I'm grateful. "

He pulled away from me with a regretful look. "Leave now! " he barked. Well, that's Mr. Black for me. One second he tries to be sweet; but the next, he's all monster high. I nod and walk out bursting into a fit of laughter as I picture his monster-high face in my mind again.

It's really difficult to find a cab here. The environment screamed wealth and money.

I walk a bit before hailing a cab to Adam's.

********

"Really? I can't believe he did that. Damn..... I wish I was the one who almost got knocked down by him." Draya was practically screaming in the break room as I spilled the beans to her. "He even checked you out." She screamed the last part.

"Draya calms down, okay? I'm not one hundred percent sure he was checking me out since there was no sign of approval or disapproval on his face. Just his normal always grumpy but handsome face. Look, Dray, we can't tell my mom, I don't want her to think I have to stay at home and go to college as I did in Ohio. I want to have my apartment and I want to work for it. It's our little secret." I told her. Not that she was gonna tell on me to my mom but it's better safe than sorry.

She looks at me then opens her hands for a hug. I hesitantly lean in knowing it's gonna be a bone-crushing hug. "I love you and I don't want to scare you but be careful sweetheart, Mr. Vaughn is dangerous. Far more dangerous than he looks."

I thought about it but it didn't stand straight, he did not look dangerous to me. He just looked... Somewhat lost and broken? I guess I'd find out when I start working.

I love this story. I love it. And Avatar, she's so cute with her thoughts.
