Chapter 42: Chapter 42
Sorry for the late update my dearest friends. Here's the chapter you all have been waiting for. I hope you guys enjoy it.
It was past ten in the morning and even though Ana was keeping me company and we were talking about cheesecake, I couldn't stop myself from wondering where he was. His breakfast was going to get cold.
"Hello, earth to Ava. What's up with you girl? You look worried."
Was it that obvious? I scratched my forehead and smiled nervously. "Why isn't he down for breakfast yet?"
Ana's lips formed an 'o'. "You know, that crossed my mind. Why don't you go and check on him." She suggested and I blushed. Know why? Cause I'm going to be the first person he's going to see today.
I nodded and walked away. Is he still asleep? Maybe he spoke with Jade all night and is exhausted now. I frowned at the thought.
When I reached his door, my heartbeat increased. I raised my hands and knocked three times. No response. Might be deep asleep. I knocked again and got no response so I slowly opened the door. The room was so dark and I ran my fingers across the wall to find a switch. Good for me, I found one. I gasped at the sight before me.
There he was, wrapped in his white duvet, shivering and looking pale.
Without thinking twice, I rushed to his side and placed my palms on his forehead. He was burning. A fever perhaps. "Oh my goodness Dre, what's wrong? You look sick. We need to rush you to the hospital."
He tried to deny it by shaking his head but stopped because it probably hurt.
I hushed him. "Don't you try to say no, boss? We need help." I said as I took off the duvet.
My eyes widened when I noticed what was causing him so much pain and the high fever. His gunshot wound looked infected and his arm was swollen. "Oh my goodness, Dre, we need to rush you to the hospital. Let me go call Ana." I said and stormed off without waiting for him to protest.
I ran as fast as I could to the kitchen. "Ana, Ana we need to take Dre to the hospital. His wound is so infected, he needs proper medical treatment. Let's go now." I said pulling a confused Ana along.
Ana gasped when she saw his arm. "The fuck!"
I cringed at her language. Nevertheless, we both helped him sit up.
"I'm fine. You girls worry a lot. Besides I can't go to the hospital. I'm a wanted man." He tried to explain, groaning in pain.
Ana rushed out and came back in no time with a big bag. "Ava go pick out an outfit for him while I wear him some makeup to disguise." She said, panicking. "His wound looks horrible. I thought you stitched it."
I nodded in fear. Oh my goodness, I probably didn't stitch it well, what if it's that bad and he needs to get amputated? Hell no! To distract me, I rushed to his closet. As expected, it was full of black clothes and a few grey ones. I took a black shirt and matching pants. I rushed out and saw that Ana was doing a great job. I barely recognized my perfect boss. She'd even worn him a strawberry blonde wig.
Once we were done helping him, we rode to the hospital. The nurse told Ana and me to wait outside.
I was losing my mind. I was the cause of all this. Maybe I didn't treat the wound well that was why it was infected. "Oh Ana, I'm so worried. What if the infection is so bad."
Ana hugged my shivering body. "I know you're scared because you think you're the cause of the infection but don't be, we're at the best hospital and he's gonna get better in no time."
"I hope so Ana. I hope so." I said and closed my eyes, trying to stop the tears from flowing. I was the cause of all these. Dear God, please help him.
I paced the long corridors for about forty minutes trying to distract myself till the nurse showed up again.
Ana and I rushed to her. "How's he doing?"
She smiled at us. "He's strong enough now. His wound has been treated and the doctor has prescribed some medications for him. Please ensure he takes them."
The relief! I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. "Thanks a lot. Can we see him now?"
She nodded and signaled that we follow her.
I smiled when I saw him lying down with his left arm covering his face and his right arm across his chest. "I'm glad you're okay now, Dre. I was so worried."
He chuckled. "I told you it was nothing, right? Either way, I'm gonna punish you later for bringing me here."
Ana who has been quiet all this while cooed. "Is it just me or is it another type of punishment?"
I didn't understand what she meant by that but Dre chuckled. "Stop it, Analise.
You're included in the punishment too. I want to leave this place already."
The nurse who was with us all this while spoke up. "No sir, you can't leave now, we still need to administer some antibiotics first. That would be in two hours."
"Two what?" Coincidentally, Ana, Dre, and I said in unison. The poor nurse gulped. "Two hours."
Dre sat up, though he did it in pain since he groaned. "I can't stay here for long.
Tell Ana everything she needs to know. She's gonna give me the treatment at home." He said firmly and stood up.
The nurse was about to protest but the cold look Dre gave her made her shut up and gulp again.
Without waiting for any other thing, my boss stood up, took the car key from Ana, and walked out, with me trailing like a lost puppy behind him. When we reached the car, he unlocked it and got in. I got in too.
We sat in silence for a couple of minutes before I decided to say what was in my mind. "Sorry about your wound. It's all my fault, I didn't treat it well."
He just kept staring ahead. "Stop apologizing. It's not your fault. It's mine. I wasn't supposed to do strenuous things with the hand but I was stubborn."
Woahhh! Did he just take the blame? "You know, that's another first." That got his attention since he faced me. "Another first?"
I nodded. "Yes. You just owned up to your mistake."
He chuckled and oh, my heart melted at how gorgeous he was. Where was this man-made? "I always admit it when I'm wrong, princess."
I snorted and he laughed. "Yeah right."
"You're a case, Ava. Anyways, we won't be able to paint today as planned." He said raising his arm.
I blushed because he remembered. And I forgot. He chuckled. "So you forgot?" He teases me.
I looked away with flushed cheeks. "It's not my fault if it left my mind, I was worried sick about you."
I could feel he was looking at me, so I turned to face him.
"You were that worried?" He asked in a soft voice, I doubted it was him. I blushed again. "Of course, you're my friend and I care about you."
I was about to add 'so much' but refrained since the back door opened and Ana got in.
"Are you sure you can drive us back home with that arm? Cause I'm still so young to die." She said as she buckled her seat belt.
Dre started the car and turned to Ana. "Shut up." And with that, drove off.
When we reached the house, Ana went straight to making lunch and at one, we took his food up to his room. "Time to get your ass injected." Ana teased and I giggled.
Dre also laughed. "No chance I'm getting an injection on my butt." I couldn't stop giggling.
"We'll see about that, boss man." Ana mused. But before that, you need to eat and take your medicine. You skipped breakfast."
He sat up immediately. "I'm very hungry. But I'm not taking no damn medicine."
Ana looked at me. "I have a lot of cleaning to do today, Ava please watch him.
Make sure he takes his medicine, okay?" I nodded. "Okay, ma'am."
She gave Dre a warning look before leaving. He cleared his throat and I turned to
face him. "You know you can't force me to take those drugs, right?"
I sat on his bed and smirked. "Oh, I can, remember when you forced me to drink that bitter tea. Well now is my turn to force you. If you don't take those medicines, I won't cook your delicious spaghetti and I also know you like crockpot chicken curry." I teased him and gave him a victorious smile when he groaned in frustration. "I thought as much. Now eat."
"Okay boss princess."
That's how it always starts. I see you, Avatia Kim. And I also see you to Dreidan Vaughn.
Who else missed these two? Cause I missed them so much.
