Chapter 30: Chapter 30
I left him before he could respond, I made my way upstairs and slipped inside a dark room. I closed the door behind me and leaned against it feeling the tears make their way down my face. I slid down the door to my knees as small sobs took over my body.
I finally had everything; a family which was perfectly safe, Thiago and I were in a good place and I was far away from the mafia.
Now Thiago and I are back to square one except this time I'm already in love with him which means everything from now on will feel like someone is stabbing my heart over and over again - every glare, every insult and every threat will hurt more than it did before. We're moving back to a place which is just full of bad memories, somewhere where I have to constantly worry in case Dante or anyone else who wants to hurt me or Leo is there.
I know Thiago and I aren't going to go back to how we were before, it's impossible if he's going to carry on with how he's acting now. I'll just have to get used to being separate and detached from him again.
Sophie's POV ~
I carried Leo into our new house in Milan while he slept in my arms. I swear all he does is cry, eat and sleep - he's almost one month old now, we spent the last three and a half weeks at home in Florence. The most we've done is go out for a stroll which I made sure to do everyday - we couldn't do more because of the situation between Thiago and I and the fact that I had to recover from my surgery first. "Here." I turned towards Thiago who had his arms outstretched. "The crib is already in our room I'll put him in there to sleep." I frowned and passed Leo to him anyway. "Make sure you turn the baby monitor on. And what do you mean our room? We're not sharing, I already told you that." He just rolled his eyes and went upstairs leaving me in the hallway by the front door surrounded by numerous boxes and suitcases.
It's been a few weeks since Thiago and I last spoke properly when he told me he didn't love me. I moved out of our room in the house in Florence with Leo so I was sleeping on my own but apparently I'm sharing with Thiago again now that we're finally back in Milan. A few minutes later he came back downstairs and passed me the receiver of the baby monitor just as Matteo and Angelo came inside. "All the furniture is already where you wanted it, we've just got all the other shit to unpack." Thiago instructed Matteo and Angelo to start carrying some boxes upstairs depending on where the labels said they should be. I went into the huge kitchen resisting the urge to smile at the interior, it was the nicest house I've seen so far in Italy, it makes it slightly more worth moving here but I would still prefer to live in Florence.
I checked the cupboards and the fridge to see they were all empty. I did tell Angelo to make sure there was food when we got here since he and Matteo had moved back a few days before Thiago and I came back. We had to wait for our house to be ready whereas the other two just moved back to their old places since they never sold them. They always had the idea that Florence would be temporary anyway.
"We don't have any food either Thiago." He just nodded in response causing me to sigh. It was honestly so hard moving house with someone who you're not speaking to. We only respond when it's absolutely necessary otherwise it's just nods and sighs. I walked around the rest of the rooms downstairs admiring the house, it was beautiful. I was in the small cloakroom busy hanging up the jackets which had been thrown on the couch thanks to Matteo, Angelo and Thiago when I felt Thiago's phone ring in his pocket. I took it out and started walking towards the direction of his voice coming from the living room when I looked down at the caller ID, I frowned when I saw Antonia's name across the screen. My steps faltered and my thumb hovered over the answer button, I glanced around to see that no one was in sight and I clicked answer.
I held the phone against my ear listening to her high pitched voice. "Thiago baby?" I bit my lip unsure of whether to speak to her or not. "Babe? I heard you're back in Milan? You took my advice then or are you just back for more?" She chuckled to herself before speaking again. "Thiago?" Eventually she gave up and hung up. I stared at Thiago's phone beginning to put all the pieces together in my head. I made my way towards the the living room gripping the phone tightly in one hand and the baby monitor in my other.
I stopped in the doorway watching Angelo and Matteo argue about where they thought the rug should go, Thiago was sitting on the couch massaging his temples. "Put it in the middle." They both looked over at me and a smile stretched across Angelo's face. "I told you she'd prefer it in the middle." I rolled my eyes at his smug expression. "Can you guys go and get some groceries? We have no food and Thiago and I need to talk about something..." They looked between the two of us, Thiago was confused whereas I made sure my expression didn't give anything away, Angelo awkwardly cleared his throat and nodded. "Yeah." They silently left and I waited till I heard the front door close before I tossed Thiago's phone to him. He looked at it before glaring at me but I spoke before he could. "Antonia called." Instantly his glare faltered and his eyes widened a little. "Tell me you didn't answer it." I rolled my eyes and closed the door so that if our conversation got more heated it wouldn't wake Leo up. "Oh I did." He threw his head back against the couch in frustration. " She's the reason you suddenly don't love me anymore." His eyes met my furious ones but I didn't let him speak. "You cheated on me with your ex fiancée less than a week after I had your son." Suddenly Thiago stood to his feet and shook his head. "No Sophie that's not true." I scoffed and stepped towards him. "Why are you even denying it? You fucking told me you don't love me anymore after you got back from Milan, where you were with Antonia. I'm not stupid Thiago."
"No Sophie listen to me. Yes Antonia was there but I didn't cheat on you I swear." I rolled my eyes at him and turned away from him but he quickly grabbed my wrist pulling me back towards him. I swiftly turned around and pulled my wrist out of his grip, my other hand came out connecting with his cheek. "Don't you dare ever touch me again Thiago."
He glared at me, the anger in his eyes mirroring my own. "I hate you and I hope it was fucking worth it."
"I didn't fucking touch her. She tried it on with me but I didn't do shit!" I rose an eyebrow at him and nodded. "Of course you didn't, because you love me so much that you wouldn't cheat on me? You value our relationship so much that you would never do anything to jeopardise it, right?"
He glared back at me and shook his head. "The reason I said all that shit is because of her you're right. Because she told me things which I should have already known."
"You're ridiculous. You really need your ex to tell you how you feel about me? You know what Thiago I don't care anymore. I've got Leo to focus on and you've got the mafia and Antonia. I'm done with you." I turned away but once again he stopped me. "You're done?" I nodded as I walked towards the door, Thiago's footsteps following behind me. "I don't give a fuck about Antonia."
"Sure you don't. Oh by the way, she wants to know if you're back in Milan ' for more '." I opened the door but Thiago's hand quickly shot out and slammed it before I could even move. He pushed me up against the door, his hands on my hips as he whispered into my ear from behind me.
"If I was fucking Antonia, do you really think I would care if you knew? Think about it." I sighed and turned around so that I was leaning against the door and I placed my hands on Thiago's chest to keep some distance between us. "I don't know Thiago. I don't know what goes on inside your head; you came home one day a completely different person." Thiago opened his mouth to respond but as usual, Leo has perfect timing. I glanced down at the baby monitor in my hand then back at Thiago. "Sophie.." I shook my head and pushed Thiago away from me so that I could open the door. "I didn't cheat on you."
"I don't believe you, and I don't care." I left the room before he could respond and went upstairs to feed Leo.

I smiled down at Leo who was frowning at me. "You're doing so well baby, just a little bit more." Leo squealed loudly when I washed his head causing me to laugh. "I'm right here Leo." He continued to squeal and cry while he squirmed around a little more as I finished giving him a bath. I was finally done and I wrapped him in a soft towel before kissing his small cheek. "Now you're all nice and clean. Next time we'll have a bath together if that makes you happier."
"Sophie." I turned around at the sound of someone coming into the bathroom, I frowned Thiago who was staring at me. "What do you want?"
"We need to talk." I shook my head and walked past him taking Leo into his new nursery. I was disappointed that we didn't get to use the other one which Thiago, Angelo and Matteo built together. This one has all the same furniture and things but it wasn't the same as the other one. I lay Leo down on the changing table and took out a diaper. I put it on him well aware of Thiago's presence behind me, it was pretty awkward after our conversation earlier but I was trying not to think about that anymore. "Can you watch him? Make sure he doesn't roll off, I need to get some clothes out of one of the boxes." He nodded and came over to watch Leo who was busy cooing to himself. I picked out a baby grow and made my way over to Leo, Thiago moved aside so that I could change him while speaking to him about nothing in particular. I leaned down
and kissed his cheek when I was done.
"Everything's unpacked downstairs." I nodded in response to Thiago's attempt at talking to me as I carried Leo downstairs with Thiago still following me. "Have you eaten?" I heard Thiago mumble a 'no' behind me and I nodded before giving Leo to him. "I'll just cook something quickly."
He sat with Leo in the living room while I made some pasta for us, my cooking had gotten a lot better since I moved to Italy. Thiago and I ate in an awkward silence before he broke it. "I'm sorry."
"For cheating on me?" He rolled his eyes. "No, for how I've been acting over the last few weeks."
"After you cheated on me?" Thiago seemed to be getting more and more annoyed with me but thankfully he didn't shout since Leo was right next to us in a small basket.
"I didn't cheat on you. Antonia disgusts me." I nodded and took a bite of my pasta before speaking. "Why? Was she not good enough for you or something?" Thiago's jaw clenched as he glared at me from across the table. "Shut up Sophie." I shrugged and sipped on my water ignoring the warning tone in his voice.
"So tell me Thiago, was it worth it? I mean it must have been great if it was enough for you to fall out of love with me in a matter of hours." Thiago's blazing eyes met mine and I felt my confident front waver for a few seconds, I looked away from him and cleared my throat.
"Anyway, I don't care anymore. Do what you want." I stood up and picked up our empty dishes. I left Thiago to watch Leo while I washed up the dishes and pans I used earlier to cook with in the kitchen, when I was done I went into the living room. I stopped in my tracks at the sight of Leo and Thiago asleep on the couch. Leo was sleeping face down on Thiago's chest, the glow from the lamp lighting up the room a little enough for me to see the peaceful expressions on both their faces.
I was hit with an overwhelming wave of sadness while I stared at the two most important people in my life. It just reminded me that Thiago and I aren't 'together' right now, it had been weeks since we last hugged or kissed or anything and it probably wouldn't be happening any time soon even though every time I see him I just want to hug him and beg to him to love me back the same way I love him. It's pathetic I know but that's what happens when you fall in love with someone, have a baby with them only for them to tell you that they don't love you anymore, or possibly never did.
