Chapter 17: Chapter 17

I felt warmth engulf me and I looked to see that Thiago had put his jacket around me. I turned around properly to face him and I gave him a small smile. "I'm sorry about all that, you should have probably expected it though." I rolled my eyes when Thiago referred to the little show down I just had with his sister and his ex.

"Why are they even friends? Shouldn't Carlotta have been on your side, she did cheat on you after all."

"She's a bitch that's why Sophie. She only became friends with Antonia when I got with her, she let their friendship get in the way of our relationship and when Antonia cheated on me she took her side." Thiago stared at the view refusing to meet my eyes but I knew he was hurt. Anyone would be if they lost their sister to someone who cheated on them.

"Thiago.." I stepped towards him and placed my hand his arm, he turned to face me but decided to change the subject. "I haven't told you how beautiful you look tonight." I gave him a small smile and opened my mouth to say thank you but a throat clearing stopped me from doing so. I turned around to see Matteo standing in the doorway of the balcony and I stepped closer to Thiago instinctively.

"What do you want Matteo?" Thiago's voice became cold when he spoke to his brother. "Can I speak to Sophie please?" Thiago scoffed and stepped towards his brother threateningly. "You're crazy if you think I'll ever let you be alone with her again."

"Fine you can stay then, I just wanted to apologise to her." Matteo turned his attention to me whilst I made sure to keep my face void of any emotion. "I'm sorry for what I did to you and how I've treated you since you've been here." I rose an eyebrow at him, the resentment I felt towards him taking over.

"That's a pretty shit apology for what you did Matteo, you tried to kill me and then you beat me up, and that's just the worst of what you did." Matteo sighed and nodded stepping closer to us but Thiago sent him a glare causing him to stop in his tracks. "I know. I just didn't trust you Sophie, and I was angry. It was pathetic but I was, I didn't understand why Thiago brought you to Italy and I didn't think you would be good for him. I've watched my father and brother work so hard all their lives and I just saw you as a threat to everything that they've built, I'm sorry."

Thiago stayed silent and remained tense, I don't know if he really had nothing to say or if he was waiting for me to speak.

"I accept your apology." As soon as the words left my mouth both Thiago and Matteo turned to me with shock written on their faces. "You do?" I nodded in response to Matteo's question. "But, I don't forgive you for what you did and I probably won't ever trust you; around me or any children I have with Thiago in the future. Unless you can prove me wrong."

"I will, I promise." I nodded as Matteo mumbled an apology to Thiago for interrupting us then he left. I let out a sigh and turned back towards the beautiful view. Seconds later I felt Thiago come up behind me and wrap his arms

around my waist, he rested his chin on my head. "You're too much of a nice person tesoro."

"I'm not that nice, there's no way I'll ever forgive him for what he did, I just don't want to be on his bad side anymore; you've seen what happened to me when I was." Thiago sighed but didn't say anything else to me. After a few minutes he moved away from me and took my hand. "Let's go back inside."

I took of his suit jacket and gave it back to him as we walked back into the party. We made it back to the table just as the food was being served, perfect timing. "Sophie you look really nice today." I gave Mia a small smile unsure of what else to say to her. Thiago keeps insisting she doesn't hate me but from the way she spoke to me the other day, I couldn't be sure.

"Thanks. So do you." Her smile faltered at the slightly cold tone in my voice, I didn't do it on purpose, I just couldn't help it.

"I'm sorry for what I said to you, I only found out what actually happened between you and Matteo after." I nodded absentmindedly and started eating my food. "Sure." Mia let out a sigh of frustration and turned away from me. I know I probably should have at least looked at her when she apologised but I just really didn't care for some reason, the way she spoke to me wasn't nice especially since she just admitted didn't actually know what really happened when she said it.

I ate my food listening to some of the speeches being read out by Dominico's friends and family. Thiago was meant to say a speech later on which he was busy trying to write all day. "Are you nervous?" Thiago glanced up at me from his food and gave me a smirk.

"Do I get nervous tesoro?" I rolled my eyes at his arrogant response causing him to chuckle. "Sorry I forgot, you're a mafia boss you don't have real feelings." He laughed at my response before leaning closer to whisper in my ear. "I have real feelings for you."

I felt butterflies in the pit of my stomach when he said this but I played it cool and nudged him away from me with my elbow. "Thiago." We both turned around to see a tall, brown haired man standing next to us. His skin was slightly wrinkled but he couldn't have been over 60 years old, his arm was linked through the arm of a young woman who looked to be in her twenties, possibly younger. I tried to hold back a frown of disgust when I saw a wedding ring on her finger. I know I shouldn't judge but she looked young enough to be his granddaughter. "Dante." Thiago took my hand and pulled me up out of my chair causing me to frown. I wasn't finished eating.

"È passato molto tempo, ragazzo mio. Vedo che hai una nuova puttana." (It's been a long time my boy. I see you've got a new whore.)

Dante glanced over at me with a disgusting smirk, his eyes travelled over my body causing my skin to crawl. "This is my wife,

Sophie. She doesn't speak Italian." I was surprised at the undertones of anger in Thiago's voice.

"Oh! Well you've managed to get yourself a good one here Thiago." Dante clapped Thiago on the shoulder giving him a sly smirk. "Let me know if you ever want a night away from her, I'll gladly take her off your hands." I felt my anger rise at the way Dante was staring at me like I was a piece of meat.

"You're fucking disgusting." At the sound of my voice both Thiago and Dante turned towards me, sadly I don't have a filter when I get angry. "You'd have to be a slut or just desperate to want to get into bed with a pig like you." Anger was clearly evident on Dante's face when I spoke, he took a small step towards me.

"You need someone to put you back in your place you little whore, clearly Thiago is too soft on you. I don't mind doing it if necessary." I scoffed ignoring Thiago who said my name in an attempt to stop me from retaliating.

"You're clearly not a real man if you need to use violence to make a woman submit to you." Anger blazed in Dante's eyes and before anyone saw it coming, his palm swung out connecting with my cheek. Enraged, Thiago immediately pulled out his gun aiming it at Dante.

The room went silent, the sound of guns being pulled out could be heard from behind Dante and from behind Thiago. Thiago didn't seem fazed knowing their were countless guns being pointed at him, probably because he knew he had his own men with their guns out behind him ready to shoot if necessary.

"Now I know where your wife gets her temper from." Dante chuckled but he wasn't amused in the slightest. "Put your gun down Thiago."

"You put your fucking hands on my wife and you think I'm going to put my gun down? I don't give a fuck who you are Dante. I'll kill you right here, right now." I rubbed my sore cheek, instantly regretting the way I spoke to Dante, only because I didn't want anyone to get hurt.

"Your whore deserved it. Try it Thiago. Go on. As soon as you even think about pulling that trigger, you'll be gunned down along with your precious family." Thiago was breathing heavily, his gun still aimed at Dante.

"Thiago put your gun down." I turned around to see Matteo coming to Thiago's side but Thiago ignored his brother and instead clicked the safety off on his gun. "Thiago please." Thiago's attention was taken away from Dante at the sound of my voice.

"Don't do it, just put it down." I watched Thiago's grip on his gun slack slightly at my request causing a smirk to stretch across Dante's face. Thiago seemed to think about it for a second and instead of doing what I asked, he did the complete opposite.

"Get them out of here. And protect Sophie with your life." Thiago spoke to Matteo before he turned back to Dante. "See you in hell you son of a bitch." It felt like everything happened in slow motion, Thiago turned his attention back to Dante just as Matteo jumped in the way between the gun and Dante, but Thiago had already pulled the trigger.
