Chapter 11: Chapter 11

<<<<<<< >>>>>>> <<<<<<<

I woke up feeling the pain of my injuries start again once the pain relief had worn off from when the doctor came. I saw Thiago fast asleep next to me, he looked so peaceful I didn't want to wake him up. Especially since he hadn't slept all night. I let out a sigh and looked around the room for any sort of medication I could take. My eyes landed on some bandages and medicine across the room and I rolled my eyes. Whoever left it there didn't think this whole thing through.

I took a deep breath and sat up, holding back a groan I put my healthy foot on the ground before tentatively putting my hurt one down. I had to bite my lip to stop myself letting out a noise from the pain that shot up through my ankle and my calf. I slowly stood up putting most of my weight onto my healthy foot. I tried to take one step but the pain was too much and I fell back onto the bed, tears welled up in my eyes out of frustration from the feeling of being unable to do simple things myself. I've always been stubborn and independent, so I don't like relying on people to help me. I let out a sniffle when I felt Thiago moving next to me.

"Tesoro? What are you doing?" I turned to Thiago feeling my anger suddenly peak. "Why would you leave my medicine all the way over there? Are you stupid or something Thiago? I've got a broken ankle I can't bloody get up to get it." I glared at him still not feeling any better even after taking my frustration out on him. I knew I was being a bitch but I was still angry at Thiago for what happened in Bangkok so I wasn't feeling guilty.

"I'll get it." I watched Thiago get out of the bed with an annoyed expression on his face and walk over to the table where my medicine was. He came and sat next to me and passed me the pills.

"Do you need anything else?" I shook my head and swallowed the pills with some water. I stubbornly tried to stand up again, don't ask me why because I don't know, but the pain was exactly the same. Thiago quickly stood up to support me but I just sent him a glare. "Don't touch me." He rolled his eyes and kept his hands on my waist supporting my weight so that I didn't use my injured foot. "Clearly you can't even stand up, you need my help." I scoffed and shook my head. "Trust me I don't need your help. I'm perfectly fine on my own." Thiago didn't speak to me, instead he just swooped me up into his arms so that he was holding me bridal style. He made sure he didn't put an pressure on my ribs which I was grateful for.

"Now, where do you want to go?" I glared at him, but spoke anyway. "I need to take a shower." Thiago nodded and walked into the bathroom with me in his arms. "You can't shower, your cast will get wet." I glanced down at the ugly cast which the doctor must have put on me to support my broken ankle.

"Just take a bath and rest your foot on the edge to stop it getting wet." I rolled my eyes and mumbled under my breath. "Stupid Italian thinks he knows everything." Thiago just sighed but didn't respond to me. I think he was trying to ignore my comments which were surely getting under his skin, just so he could prevent an argument. Thiago sat me on the stool next to the bath and started running the water.

"Take off your clothes Sophie." I rose an eyebrow at him in disbelief. "Get out and maybe I will." He gave me a teasing smirk in response. "I've seen it all plenty of times tesoro." For some reason I just felt even more angry at the sight of his smirk. "Like how you saw Antonia plenty of times?" At the mention of her name Thiago tensed and his face became emotionless, I instantly knew I had pushed him too far.

"Take your fucking clothes off Sophie, or I'll just leave you here." I decided not to respond because I could tell he was serious this time, and I didn't want to spend the rest of the day in the bathroom. I slipped off my tank top slowly so as not to aggravate my bruises any more. I started taking off my leggings but I couldn't do it properly so Thiago had to pull them off and over my cast. I mumbled a thank you but he didn't respond to me.

I bit my lip unsure of whether to take off my underwear infront of him, I didn't feel as comfortable as I did before I found out he had been with Antonia a week before our wedding. It's silly because I knew he had been with many many women before he met me, but as soon as I found out about Antonia I just felt self conscious all of a sudden. The bruises on my body from last night weren't helping me feel any better either.

"I won't look Sophie just take them off." I looked over at Thiago who had gone over to the sink to brush his teeth whilst waiting for the huge bath to fill up. I thought about it for a moment but I did it anyway. I had just finished when Thiago turned around, his eyes stayed on my face the whole time whilst he helped me into the bath, he didn't look at my body once which I was surprised about."Is that okay?" I nodded and Thiago silently left the bathroom leaving me in the warm bath all alone, it was the most peaceful I had been in ages. The warm water made all the aches in my body ease away.

Thiago and I had spent the whole day together at home, he was so worried about leaving me alone he stayed by my side all the time which warmed my heart. He was constantly asking me if I needed anything and although it was a little annoying it was still cute. We just made small talk making sure not to get onto any topics which could lead to an argument.

We were on the couch together in the evening, I was laying with my feet on Thiago's lap while we watched our 6th movie of the day. "You're annoying Sophie." I glanced over at Thiago who was glaring at my feet. "Look, the pillow wasn't helping my ankle, you're the next best thing." He sighed and leaned back his eyes going back to the TV.

A few minutes later I started feeling hungry and I looked towards Thiago with a small grin on my face. "Thiago I'm hungry." He threw his head back and let out a groan causing me to laugh. "Can't you go to sleep or something, just be quiet for once." I rolled my eyes at his response.

"Is that how you're going to act when we have a child who is completely reliant on us for everything? You're just going to tell them to go to sleep?" Thiago glanced over at me with a serious expression on his face. "Us? No Sophie, you. You're doing all of it, after one day of taking care of you I'm done. I can't do it anymore." I couldn't hold back my laughter causing Thiago to frown. I did feel sorry for him since he's had to do everything for me today but he does deserve it.

"Just order a pizza." He smiled in relief and pulled out his phone, he rang up the pizza place and ordered in Italian. "What did you get?" He glanced over at me with a grin. "I got pineapple on the pizza. I figured since you're weird you might like it." My eyes widened and I sat up a little. "Please tell me you're joking Thiago. There's no way you did that." He placed his hand over his heart feigning hurt. "I was trying to be thoughtful Sophie. You're hurting my feelings." I frowned at him causing him to chuckle. "I'm joking tesoro." I shook my head and sent him a glare. "It's not funny, don't mess with a girls pizza Thiago."

We went back to watching our movie and forty minutes later there was a knock at the front door; Thiago gently moved my feet so that he could go and open it. "Hurry up Thiago." He was barely out the room when he rolled his eyes in response and left the living room.

A minute later he came back with someone following behind him. I frowned when I saw Angelo holding two pizza boxes behind Thiago. The memories of last night with Matteo came back to me and I instantly shook my head as my guard went up. "No. Get out, now." The grin on Angelo's face faltered and he looked at Thiago for help.

"Sophie it's okay he's not going to hurt you." Thiago came towards me but I grabbed the remote and hit him full force with it, my aim was slightly off and I ended up hitting his most painful area causing him to drop to his knees next to me groaning in pain.

"Shit Thiago, I'm so sorry." He rested his head on the couch next to my arm whilst groaning. I bit my lip unsure of what to say whilst Angelo just burst out laughing at the scene in front of him. I sent him a glare and placed my hand on Thiago's arm in an attempt to comfort him.

"Fuck you Sophie." Angelo was still laughing as Thiago started to get back to his feet. He snatched the remote out of my hand with a glare and limped over to Angelo who was struggling to catch his breath. Thiago took the pizza boxes out of his and slapped him over the back of the head.

"Fuck you both." Thiago started walking away with the pizza and my heart rate began to increase in fear. "No Thiago come back! Bring my pizza back!" He stopped in his tracks and turned around to face me. "I was going to put them on the coffee table for you.." I gave him a sheepish smile. "Oh." Thiago rolled his eyes and threw the pizza boxes down before limping towards the door. "What drink do you want?" I thought for a moment before responding. "Just water thank you." Thiago sent me one last glare before leaving the room still clearly in a lot of pain.

I was left in an awkward silence with Angelo who was sitting on the arm chair next to the couch. "Sophie I'm so sorry about what happened to you." I looked down at my phone, tracing my finger over the blank screen just so I didn't have to look at him. "I'm fine, it doesn't matter anymore."

"Of course it matters, he was out of order." I knew he was trying to be nice but I couldn't let my guard down around him, not after how Matteo attacked me. Angelo was also part of the mafia, he could do the same to me at any time. Possibly even more.

"You don't have to be scared around me Sophie, I won't hurt you. You didn't deserve what happened and I'll do my best with Thiago to make sure it doesn't happen again." He gave me a small smile and I nodded in response. I didn't trust him yet but as long as Thiago was here then I wasn't going to push Angelo away. It would have been completely different if Thiago hadn't been here.

Eventually my husband came back with two beers and a bottle of water for me, he was still pissed off but he didn't say anything else about me hitting him. I'm sure he'll bring it up later though, he's probably just trying to be nice since I'm hurt.

"You can eat then get the fuck out of my house." Angelo chuckled at Thiago's comment whilst Thiago sat back down on the couch, he gently placed my feet on his lap again causing me to smile.

We ate in silence whilst watching TV, occasionally Thiago's or Angelo's phone would go off, I've noticed that as soon as they get a notification they check it straight away. I guess it's all part of their roles in the mafia. My eyes went to Thiago when his phone started ringing and he paused the TV so that he could hear properly, he glanced down at the caller ID and tensed up, he sat up properly before speaking.

"Both of you idiots keep your mouths shut." So Thiago was still very annoyed about what happened earlier then. "Hello?" Thiago's voice was cold when he spoke. "What sort of fucking problem? It's a simple process, they send it from Mexico and you receive it in Sicily, it's not hard."

Thiago went silent for a while, his face contorting with anger.

"And you're only telling me now? If the shipment is late then you contact them straight away, that's basic fucking knowledge." Thiago continued to lecture whoever was on the phone to him, after a few minutes he hung up and threw his phone down on the coffee table. He turned to Angelo who was already serious and alert, any traces of humour from the previous conversations had disappeared.

"They've fucked up the shipment from Mexico, apparently it's lost somewhere." Angelo frowned at Thiago and took his phone out. "There's no way it would be intercepted on the way to Sicily, they're Mexicans they know how to send a drug shipment properly." Thiago shook his head, anger clearly evident on his face.

"There's 26 million Euros worth of drugs on that plane Angelo. I want it found, whoever managed to get their hands on it you kill them straight away, and whichever bastard purposely diverted it from Sicily, you bring him to me. Find out. I know Matteo usually deals with this kind of stuff but you have to do it for now." Thiago looked down at his phone again whilst Angelo stood up, grabbing his jacket and left the room to go and do whatever he needed to. I stared at Thiago who was still furiously typing on his phone, random thoughts going through my head. I never asked him what happened with Matteo, I'm not sure if I should either.

Eventually he looked up at me and rose an eyebrow. "What?" I gave him a shrug and turned towards the TV. "Nothing." He sighed and leaned back on the couch. "If you have something to say just say it."

I looked down at my hand, fiddling with the bracelet I was wearing.

"What happened with Matteo?" Thiago stayed silent for a while before he spoke, his tone was cold and clipped as usual.

"I've dealt with it, he won't bother you again." I looked at him to see him already looking at his phone again. "Okay.." I wanted to push him further but I knew it wouldn't end well, especially since he was in one of his moods again.

~ Thiago's POV ~

"Thiago." I closed my eyes even tighter hoping Sophie would just go back to sleep, but she didn't. "Thiago!" I jumped at the sound of her voice next to my ear. "What Sophie?" I pushed her gently away from me so that I could sit up. "I'm thirsty." I resisted the urge to groan knowing my wife would just start an argument right now and I didn't fancy arguing with her at 2am, especially since she was PMSing and there was no way I would win against her.

"Don't you have water next to you?" Sophie rolled her eyes at my question. "Do you think I would wake you up if I had some next to me?" I just stayed quiet and got up to go and get her some water. It's been four weeks since she broke her ankle and she still makes me do everything for her. She even learned to use crutches weeks ago but she just doesn't like using them. Anyway, she claims since it was my fault she broke her ankle I have to do everything for her, I don't agree but I don't argue with her, it doesn't end well.

Our relationship is exactly the same as it was when we left Bangkok, basically nonexistent. We only talk when it's necessary, we don't get along at all and we argue about almost everything. I gave up trying to get her to forgive me because she didn't want to, unless she's willing to forgive me and move on from what happened herself she'll never truly get over it.

"Here." She took the glass of water, which I had got from the kitchen, without saying anything and I just got back into bed next to her. That ladies and gentleman is as far as our dialogue ever goes, she's not really the same as she was when we got married. For some reason ever since her encounter with my brother she's just become really closed off. She doesn't make the weird jokes she used to make anymore, she doesn't even call me a stupid Italian, it used to piss me off so much but I can't lie and say I don't miss it because I do. It's what made Sophie so different from all the other girls, she was never afraid to speak her mind or make her stupid jokes. Now she's just resorted to speaking to me when she really needs something or if she's seriously angry she'll have a go at me. We haven't had a normal conversation since that day we ate pizza and watched movies all day. Four weeks ago.
