Chapter 28: Chapter 28
TWENTY EIGHT- I GUESS IT’S NEVER REALLY OVER
Isabel run up the stairs to her room ignoring the voice of her grandmother calling out her name.
She locked her door and collapsed on her purple-covered bed in tears.
The young girl had just gotten her father back and he was leaving all over again, and her little heart couldn't understand why this was happening.
He loved her mum, and she loved him too. What more was needed?
The anger in her rose with each intake of breath.
Her mother was to blame for all this, why couldn't she just accept him back so they could move on?
She sniffed some more and hugged her pillow closer to her chest.
****
God what had she done?
Louisa was realizing now just how foolish she had been.
She now knew that the saying was very true.
You only knew you really loved someone when you let them go.
She wasn't going to lose William for the second time... especially over something as small as fear that she'd lose him again.
What had she been thinking?
She pushing him away was akin to him leaving, but this time it was all her fault and she saw that now.
She got up from the bed, not even bothering to freshen up or look presentable, then she grabbed her car keys and stepped out of the room.
She was about to head downstairs, but something made her walk towards Isabel's room instead.
Perhaps, it was motherly instinct or something more, for she realized when she lay a hand on the door that her daughter was in there...
That she was crying.
Louisa, leaned against the door, eyes closed in regret.
She saw how selfish she had been now; thinking all about herself and forgetting about how the other people in her life were going to be affected by her decisions.
"Isabel." She called out with a knock.
No answer.
"Isa, Honey... I know you're in there, can I come in?" She tried again, louder this time.
Still, no answer.
"Isabel?" She tried the doorknob, but it was locked.
"Isabel please open the door." She was about to panic but thankfully, she heard the key turn and then the door opened. She watched as her little girl walked back to her bed and lay down without even bothering to look in her direction.
"Isab-"
"You made him leave mum. How could you do that?" The young girl screamed at her mum.
Louisa's heart broke at the sight of the tears that flowed down her daughter's face.
"I thought you loved him..." She whispered, sitting cross-legged on the bed, her arms still clutching her purple-covered pillow.
"Isab-"
"You know what, mum? Just... leave me alone, please. I want to be alone."
Louisa stood there silently for a moment, and then sighed deeply. It was obvious that nothing she said was going to make her daughter feel better, so she gently stepped out of the room and went downstairs.
Her mother was in the hall, and from the look of things, the older woman seemed about to give her daughter some serious tongue lashing that she absolutely deserved, but the younger woman cut her off.
"I know what you're going to say mama, and there's no need." She stopped in front of her mother, a determined look on her face.
"I'm going to get my man back."
******
William was packing clothes into his suitcase while simultaneously trying to check out the next available flight to London. The poor man was devastated. He hadn't thought his plan would backfire in his face in that way.
True, he had planned to tell Louisa about the trip already, but he had thought his decision to leave would have jolted her into making a decision of her own,
Not coerce her into seeing that she had been right all along for crying out loud!
He had really done a number on their relationship, and this time he wasn't sure they were going to bounce back.
Or could they?
He was closing his suitcase with newfound hope when he heard the doorbell ring.
Well who could it possibly be, he wasn't really expecting anyone.
He decided to ignore it, but whoever that was, was pretty adamant. With a sigh he rushed downstairs with a loud, "I'm coming!"
And guess who was at the door when he opened it?
The very same woman who had stubbornly kicked him out of her house!
Her hands were raised in surrender. "Will, you have every right to kick me out of your house-"
He raised an eyebrow at the statement, even though he was mentally dancing for joy. "Oh really? Alright then..." he tried shutting the door in her face but she was quick to stop him. "Will, please hear me out." She pleaded, staring right into his bluish grey orbs.
Of course, there was nothing to be heard. All that mattered was that she had come back for him but the man wanted to see her squirm a little bit more. He deserved that at least after all for all the things she had put him through.
William realized now that it wasn't too late after all... his plan had worked just fine.
He tried acting indifferent. "Well you can come in, but I don't have much time, I've got a flight to catch after all." He stated, scooching to the side so she could come in.
Louisa wiped her hands on her sweatpants... another thing she did when she was nervous. She didn't know where to begin, and realized once again, how insensitive she had been.
It really wasn't an easy task to get out there and bare your heart out to someone and she knew that now.
"William?" She called out hesitantly.
He didn't say a word.
"I just wanted to apologize for the things I said, and how I kicked you out of my house... it was very rude of me, and I promise it'll never happen again."
William stood there for a moment and then nodded conclusively. "Alright. Well apology accepted. If that's all you came to tell me, then I believe we're done here." He tried to go open the door so he could see her out, but she threw herself into his arms and held on tight, refusing to let him go. "I love you William Fiifi Blankson... I always have and I always will. Please forgive my foolish ways and take me back, I beg you."
William was about to say something, but she wasn't even paying attention to him. All she wanted to do was get the feelings off her chest. "I'm scared of a lot of things, Will... and my greatest fear used to be the fear of something happening to my- to our daughter, but somehow, you weaved your way into the equation too, so much so, that I know now that I can't handle another period without you."
She looked up at him, the love shining bright in her eyes.
"I still have my doubts, but I can assure you that I'm not going to let it get in the way of my happiness with you... with our child. I need you Will, Isa and I do, please forgive me."
William squeezed her in a bone crushing hug. He had tortured the beautiful woman long enough, he couldn't do it again. "I wasn't going to leave, Louisa." He whispered gleefully.
"What?"
"I was initially, but my heart wouldn't let me, I couldn't do that to you a second time..."
She silenced him with a kiss, which quickly turned frantic.
They tumbled up the flight of stairs and collapsed on the bed in a tangle of limbs.
William tore off her shirt in rush of impatience and then latched onto the creamy skin on her cleavage, trying hard to get her nude coloured-lacy bra off.
Louisa kissed him back with just as much fervor, giggling like a horny teenager when he groaned. "How do you get rid of this thing?"
She helped him get it off and would have blushed like a tomato if it wasn't for her beautiful dark skin. The way he was looking at her, gaze so dark, eyes drinking her in, as if to permanently engrave her features in his mind. "You're so beautiful, Lulu." He shook with laughter when she groaned at the horrible pet name. It was hilarious really, because he knew a part of her absolutely loved it.
Their kiss started all over again, with much more intensity this time, as Louisa struggled to get the brawny man out of his shirt.
The sound of a phone ringing made them pause in their shenanigans. "That's not my ringtone, you should answer it." William muttered absentmindedly while sucking on that sweet spot right where her jaw met her neck. Louisa was too worked up to care. "No, go on... God, please don't stop." She murmured huskily, sighing in relief when the damned phone stopped ringing.
It began again a minute later and this time William stopped. "It might be important, Louisa."
The pleasure fog seemed to have cleared in her mind, for she found herself reaching for the phone in panic. What if it had something to do with Isa? She hadn't exactly left the kid in a good place and all.
Thankfully, it wasn't Isabel, or her mum... but it surely wasn't an expected call either.
It was Mike.
She answered the phone. "Hey Mike, what's up?"
Her eyes widened in disbelief at something he had said. "What? Now?"
William sat up, eyebrows raised in concern, but she held up a hand. She stood up, trying to shimmy into the sweatpants she had no idea had come off. "I'm on my way." She hang up right after.
"Naa Larley has gone into labour." She explained, reaching for her torn shirt. There was no going out in that one.
"I'll get you one of my shirts." William said grinning sheepishly as he rushed to get it for her. She slipped it on, turning to face him shyly. "Uh... so, we'll talk about us later?"
William smiled. This woman was so cute. "No, my lovely fiancée, I'm coming with you." He grabbed his shirt and put it back on as Louisa looked on at him in surprise.
She surely wasn't hearing things right. "Fiancée?" She asked as they headed down the stairs and out of the house to her car, but all she got for her troubles was an amused shrug.
She was going to open her car door but then froze at the impressive piece of jewelry sitting on her ring finger. It was simply crafted, a solitaire silver, diamond-embellished band with a huge diamond in top as a finishing touch. It was beautiful, an ultimate classic.
She glanced up at him in shock.
The sly dog!
When had he even managed to slip that on without her realizing?
She noticed he was looking at her critically, gauging her reaction. She gave him a wonderful, grateful smile and a small nod, laughing when he let out a loud "whoop" and rushed over to lift her off the ground in a hug.
"Okay! God, you just made me the happiest man alive." He breathed out when he had put her down.
"Let's go see Naa Larley now, she needs me." She breathed out as she got into her car. He got in as well and she drove off.
