Chapter 64: Chapter 64

Chapter 64:

Damien’s P.O.V

As soon as we reached the hospital, Tia was immediately rushed to the operating theatre. Daniel and Victor went on to fill all the necessary documents while I waited outside with Grace and Kendra and watched as the lights turned red and several doctors and nurses entered the theatre, ready to operate on Tia.

“It’s going to be okay, Grace,” I heard Kendra assure her as the two women huddled together at one corner. “Ty’s strong; she’s always been a fighter. She’ll pull through. She has to.”

“I know. She’ll make it. I know...” Grace spoke before she broke down in Kendra’s arms.

I collapsed on the chair opposite to them, too exhausted and emotionally drained to comfort either women. But thankfully, their husbands returned on time and took them into their arms, whispering sweet nothings into their ears as they held them.

I looked down at my hands that were covered in Tia’s blood. How desperately I wanted to turn back time so I could tell Tia just how big of a fool I was to let her go. She meant more to me than anything in the world and yet I had been scared that she might become like Marian. There was nothing similar between the two women. Tia was too kind, too good to be anything like the selfish woman who was my ex-wife. How could I even have compared the two in the first place?

I don’t know how long I just sat there, waiting, praying, before someone held a cup in front of me. I looked up to find Dan offering me a steaming hot cup of coffee.

“You look about ready to pass out.” He said as he handed me the cup and took a seat beside me.

I looked around to find that Kendra and Victor were sound asleep in their seat on the opposite wall, cuddled together in each other’s arms. Grace, however, was nowhere to be seen. But apart from us the hospital looked pretty much deserted. However, the red bulb on top of the operation theatre was still glowing.

“What time is it?” I asked as I took a small sip from the cup and hissed out a breath as the coffee burned its way down my stomach.

“A little after three in the morning. Grace has gone to inform Tatiana’s parents and Tatiana has been in the operation theatre for about three and a half hours.” Daniel told me as he took a sip from his own cup.

Three and a half hours? Why was it taking that long? No wonder my muscles were aching. But my had was the worst. I must have injured a muscle or two when I’d broken down the door. I tried to flex my hand but winced when pain shot through my arm, forcing me to take it back to its previous position.

“You ought to get that checked, it’s swelling.” Daniel pointed out before he sat back against the uncomfortable hospital chair. “So, how did you screw up?”

I shook my head. Of course Daniel would know, he was always the one who paid keen attention to detail. “I got scared that she might turn out to be like Marian. Stupid, I know, they have nothing in common...but...”

“But you’ve been hurt once and in the worst way possible.” Daniel placed a hand on my shoulder. “Just make sure to grovel on your hands and knees when she wakes up and hope that she takes you back.”

“I was planning on it,” I told him now. “Fuck, Daniel! I fucked up so bad! I’d do anything to make it right. Even if she doesn’t want me back, I’ll be fine as long as I know that she’s alright, that she’s happy.”

“You got it bad, huh?” Daniel smirked. “Never thought I’d actually see you fall this hard for someone. She’s perfect for you.”

“She is perfect.” I agreed, but whether she was really meant to be mine or not, that was still up for debate. But damnit, I wasn't going down without a fight. I’m a lawyer for God’s sake; I’ll come up with some way to convince her that we could be perfect together, that we were perfect together.

The lights to the operation theatre turned off with a slight noise and Daniel and I both stood up to greet the doctor who came out of the room, looking stressed and exhausted. He was young, in his late twenties or early thirties and he was wearing his scrubs with his hair still covered.

“How is she?” I asked the doctor as he came to face us.

“Which one of you is her immediate family?” The doctor asked us. “I can’t share person information about the patient to anyone.”

“I’m her friend and this is her boyfriend,” Daniel answered for me. “Please, her parents are away at the moment and she lives alone. We can take care of her.”

“Alright then, the operation was a success and she is out of danger.” The doctor told us. “Thankfully the knife didn’t hit any major artery or nerve, just muscle fibres and we were able to extract the knife without problems. But she did experience blunt force trauma to the head so her vision might cause some problems and there might be some dizziness. She had also suffered a lot of blood loss so we have put her on transfusion.”

I breathed in a sigh f relief. Finally, there was some good news. Tia was going to be alright. She was going to recover. There was nothing I could ever want than for her to be alright.

“There is, however, another news.” The doctor said looking directly at me. “Ms. Rivers is pregnant.”

“What?”

I heard Daniel’s shocked yelp but my ears were still ringing. Tia was pregnant...Tia was pregnant...

It felt like the ground had just shifted from under my feet.

“It’s in the earliest stages, about two weeks,” I heard the doctor speak. “We wouldn’t have found out if we hadn’t tested her blood for the transfusion. But the fetus is strong and it seems to be doing just fine. Congratulations, Sir, you’re about to be a father...and I think you need to get your arm tested. Why is it swollen so much?”

“I broke down the door...” I heard myself saying vaguely, but my head was spinning.

Tia was pregnant...two weeks...two weeks! It had to be that first time we had unprotected sex in the washroom...and then her house. Tia was pregnant...Tia was pregnant...

I was going to be a father...

I was shocked out of my trance when pain shot through my arm and I dropped the coffee cup I had no idea I was still holding. I looked down to find the doctor examining my arm.

“Looks like a fracture, Sir, I’d like you to get it tested immediately.” He told me. “I’ll write down a prescription, just wait here.” With that he walked off to get his notepad and I almost lost my footing.

“Damien!” Daniel caught hold of my hand to steady me. “Are you alright? Come take a seat.”

But I shook my head and held onto his arm instead. When I looked at him, it was clear from the shocked look on his face that he’d seen the tears in my eyes. “Tia’s pregnant. I’m going to be a father, Dan.” I chocked out. “She’s alright.”

“Yes,” Daniel smiled at me. “You’re going to be a dad.”

“What?”

We turned to find Grace standing behind us with tears in her eyes. She looked at Daniel for confirmation and he nodded his head. “Oh my God!” She covered her mouth with her hands. “Oh my God!”

“Huh? What’s wrong? What happened?” Kendra woke up at that instant, followed by Victor and soon, we were all huddled together in our seats, sharing the good news about Tia’s recovery and her pregnancy as her friends listened with wide smiles and tear stained eyes.

Wake up, Tia. I can’t wait to see you.
