Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Chapter 46:
Damien’s P.O.V
“Shit!” I pressed down on my temples with my fingers and grit my teeth.
Things weren’t supposed to get this out of hand but watching my younger brother get married, watching him so happy and radiant and then having to stand next to him through it all? It was slowly driving me insane.
And what had just happened with Tatiana? It was something too intense for a meaningless little quickie. I had wanted to leave as soon as I was done with her, but when I saw her leaning against the mirror numbly, nearly naked and vulnerable, I just couldn’t do it. I just couldn’t leave her like that...like I’d just used and discarded her.
And the sex? I couldn’t even find words to define what I felt about that. But one thing I knew for sure was that once hadn’t been enough.
I could still feel it in my veins, the essence she left behind. My heart was still racing a thousand miles an hour and even though I just fucked her, my dick was still hard and I wanted Tatiana again. Once hadn’t been enough and this was the first time I’d ever felt this pulsing need for any woman, least of all a stranger I’ve just had a one night stand with.
I’d chosen her because there was something very familiar in her that I could relate to, and she seemed lost in her own thoughts even though her best friend was getting married. It must be that fact that both of her best friends got married before her while she’s still single.
Shit!
Was she really single? Or did she just fuck me because her boyfriend wasn’t here? I hadn’t seen a ring on her finger so she couldn’t be married. Damnit! How could I lose control like this? That too at my brother’s wedding!
I turned on one of the taps and sprinkled water onto my face, hoping that the cold water might help calm down my nerves. It didn’t. But staying cooped up inside the washroom wasn’t an option. I had to go out and face the world. I have to watch my younger brother laugh and kiss his new bride just like I had with my bride...before it all went to hell.
Squaring my shoulders and shutting down the lid on the past with a harsh cuss, I smoothed out any wrinkles on my suit and walked out of the washroom and into the night.
Tatiana's P.O.V:
“Ty!” Ken waved her hand in the air excitedly as soon as her eyes landed on me. I suddenly felt like all eyes were on me.
Damn it, Tatiana! No one here knows that you were just screwing the best man, who also happens to be your best friend's husband's older brother, in the washroom! And I’d made sure my dress and hair were alright before I got out of that bathroom. But even as I thought that, I felt the tightening of my stomach muscles, the slight tingle of my inner muscles that were remembering what had just happened a few minutes ago.
Shoving those thoughts and feelings at the back of my mind, I hurried over to Ken and Victor's table before the entire crowd's attention turned towards me.
“Hey,” I said a bit nervously to the couple as I slid into my seat.
“Where did you just come from? I was supposed to keep an eye on you but I lost you at the dance floor.” Ken told me apologetically.
Great! So now even my best friend's think I'm a pity party. “I went to call an Uber.” It wasn’t a lie since I had called an Uber on my way back. “The music was too loud here so I went towards the washrooms.”
“Ah!” Victor mused. “But I don't think we can leave yet.”
“Why?” I asked the couple.
Ken shrugged. “Groom's orders. He said Grace and him had some surprise to tell us.”
“Yeah,” Victor wrapped one arm around Ken’s shoulder and pulled her close. “Now all that's lef-Hey Damien!” He cut off mid sentence to wave Damien over at our table.
My heart leapt up to my throat when I realized that there was only one empty chair and that too, right next to me.
But when Damien came over, it was like nothing had happened at all. His face was expressionless and the way he sat away from me, it almost felt like he was repulsed by me.
I fisted my hands under the table, unable to understand what brought on the sudden change in body language. But at the same time, I could understand where he was coming from. We wanted an escape, we ran off to the washroom, we fucked, end of story. We were complete strangers that found solace in each other’s embrace for a short while, that’s all. And we were both reasonable adults who could deal with such things without a fuss. But damnit! I just wished my heart wasn't doing summersaults inside my chest at the moment.
A waiter passed by our table and Damien and Ken both took a glass of wine from his tray and I became alert immediately.
“Ken, how many glasses did you have today?” I asked her when she was about to have a sip.
“Relax, Ty.” Ken held out her glass as if to say cheers. “This’ll be my second and my last glass. Victor’s been keeping tabs on me all day.”
I felt myself relax instantly. It wasn’t long since we found out that Ken had become an alcoholic and it had started to affect her liver, but all thanks to Daniel, who’d been there for her when we couldn’t, she’s now in rehab and has a Hawke-eyed husband who takes care of her just right.
But even then I couldn’t help the bitterness that seeped inside my mind at the thought of the happy couple. She had everything I could ask for. A loving husband, a perfect life-
“Hey guys!” Grace’s voice cut through my negative thoughts. “Sorry to keep you waiting, I wanted to get here earlier but one of Daniel’s Aunts got a hold of me.”
“Ohhh!” Ken cooed. “Did they give you any wedding night advice?”
“Kendra!” I gasped, aware of the two men’s sudden interest in their shoes and Grace’s tomato red face.
Kendra simply gave us a smirk while Grace smacked her right on top of the head.
“Hey! No fighting at our wedding,” Daniel came to the rescue at that instant, wrapping his arms around Grace and skillfully turning her away from Ken’s incoming blow.
Ken huffed in protest and crossed her arms across her chest, sulking like the big, little child she was.
“So, I heard you guys had some important announcement to make?” Damien spoke for the first time, sounding both irritated and impatient.
If Daniel heard him, he didn’t let it show, or he just didn’t want to spoil the good mood going on. Instead he addressed all of us while saying, “We’re all going out for the next two weeks to spend our Honeymoon...in Hawaii!”
“Oh My God!” Ken was the first to spring up from her seat and embrace both Daniel and Grace together. “Hawaii? For two weeks? Wait, but aren’t we going to intrude on you guys?”
“Yes, Hawaii, for two weeks and don’t be stupid! We wanted to spend some quality time with our friends and family.” Grace wrapped one arm around Ken as she spoke to all of us. “Don’t worry about expenses, it’s been taken care of and we leave tomorrow afternoon, so go home and start packing.”
“But I can’t!” I exclaimed, hating that I’ll be putting a damper on their happiness. “I have School, Grace, I can’t just up and leave without warning.”
“It’s been taken care of, Tatiana.” Daniel intercepted. “We’ve spoken to your Principal, who is a very generous lady by the way, and she has accepted with the condition that you take two weeks of summer school.”
“Really?” To say that I was surprised would be an understatement. Principal Johanna McCarthy was a very strict woman who was used to never getting no as an answer. For Daniel or Grace to have been able to charm her wasn’t an easy job. But my bet’s on Daniel, McCarthy is a sucker for hot men.
“Yes, really.” Grace winked. “So go home, get a good night’s rest and pack a lot of bikinis!”
“Okay...but why aren’t you surprised about this?” I turned towards Victor, who was lounging in his chair calmly, not looking the least bit surprised.
“Daniel actually informed me a week ago so I could clear my schedule.” Tory gave a guilty smile. “And I helped clear Kendra’s schedule as well so we could both be free for the next two weeks.”
“And here I thought you couldn’t keep secrets from me...” Kendra sighed in a show of mock disappointment.
“Well, I guess I should get going then,” Damien stood up from his chair abruptly. “I have some unpacking to do as well and I need some sleep.”
“Sure, big brother.” Daniel gave him a hug and a pat on the back. “Departure’s at four. Don’t sleep in!”
“I won’t.” He smiled and turned towards the rest of us to say goodnight.
Our eyes met for a brief second, held; and I found my own thoughts reflected in his icy blue gaze.
This was far from over between us.
