Chapter 18: Prologue to Intrigued
Victor’s P.O.V:
Two years ago...
I have a bad feeling about this.
Two weeks ago, my life had been completely normal, uncomplicated. But that was before my sister came back after graduating college with two of her best friends...with her. Kendra Millar
With a mop of curly blonde locks and captivating blue eyes, Kendra was an enigma. Energetic, fun, caring and completely crazy, she was like the wind, wild and free. But no matter how much I tried to understand her, the more mysteries I dig up. One thing I know for sure, Kendra Millar is no ordinary woman. She’d made me experience passion like never before and with her, it felt like anything was possible.
So what if she like to live on the edge? A lot of people do. But with Kendra, I somehow got the feeling like she had to live on the edge, like for her it was a necessity not a thrill. Those blue eyes held so many secrets. I’d only glimpsed one when she’d arrived, when she’d met out parents. There had been a tiny moment when I’d glimpsed jealousy, an age old anger, but then she’d smiled and the emotion was gone.
Later that night, we’d been sitting at the patio, sipping iced lemon tea, and I’d made the mistake of asking her about her parents.
“They’re dead.” Was her short, bitten out answer. And I’d left it at that. But I’d known without any doubt that she’d been lying. But I’d let it go, thinking it was none of my business.
We’d become fast friends since then and I’d learned not to ask her about her ‘feelings’. Kendra was good at hiding things, sometimes even from herself; and that’s not something you learn in a day. But at that time I hadn’t realized that I was falling in love with her, not until I’d kissed her one night, while we were sneaking ice cream out of the fridge at the middle of the night. It had been the most amazing kiss of my life. And later, I’d licked some ice-cream off her lips and then her body.
That was the first night we’d made love to each other. Or at least I had.
My sister and Kendra were leaving tomorrow with her other friend to go off to LA for their internships. And today, I’d decided to be brave enough to tell her that I might have fallen in love with her. Because at that time I hadn’t realized I was making the biggest mistake of my life.
“You’re a kid, nothing more. I was bored out of my mind in this wretched town and you were fresh meat. What’s wrong if I had some fun with you?” She’d snapped at me. “Why did you have to ruin it by falling in love?” She’d said the word love like it was poison. Like saying the words out loud physically hurt her.
“Please, just let me explain? I really want to be with you, Kendra, I really do.” I begged. “I know I’m younger than you, but people far younger have gotten married bef-“
“Dear God! Where are you taking this?” She’d laughed humourlessly. “That just proved how big of a baby you are! We were just having fun! Do you understand, Tory? Fun! There was no love, no feelings, nothing between us! Nor will there ever be!”
I would have believed her, believed that everything she’d been saying was true, if only there had been something in her eyes. They were completely dead, like there were no emotions inside them. And one thing I’d come t know about Kendra was that her eyes were too expressive. They always showed what was really going on in her mind. And that’s how I knew she was lying.
“There’s a barn at the end of the field where the summer festival is being held.” I told her. “I want you to meet me there tonight.”
That was all I’d been able to tell her before my sister had called me away. Kendra had just stood there, looking like she was utterly exhausted. But I knew she’d come. She always did. Just like she’d said that whatever we’d done in the kitchen at three in the morning was a mistake, but then the very next night, she’d crawled into my bed and we’d made love again. I knew she felt something for me, even if it was a fraction of what I felt for her.
And I’d come to the barn with exactly that thought in mind. My hands were clammy as I stood outside the barn, the festival in full blast just a minute’s walk away. The barn was shielded by a layer of trees so no one had seen me come here. But for some reason, my heart felt like it was going to burst out of my chest and perspiration tickled down my spine. It wasn’t a good feeling, like something was about to happen, something that will change me forever.
But nothing could’ve prepared me for what I saw once I pushed the barn door open a crack. It was unlocked...on purpose.
And inside, I found Kendra, naked, fucking a man double her age. The man had his back to me but I could see Kendra properly. I could watch the bastard’s hands on her supple breasts, his dick inside her as he threw his head back and climaxed as Kendra’s eyes looked ahead, unfocused and cold. So cold.
And then she turned her eyes to me...and my heart broke into a million pieces.
