Chapter 49: Chapter 49
Chapter 48:
Sanaya’s P.O.V
“Hi…” My voice sounded breathless to my ears.
A smile lit up Lancelin’s face slowly, his eyes turning a bright shade of amber.
He was dressed in a crème colored suit jacket and pants with a white shirt underneath and the white suite was embroidered in gold designs, similar to the designs on my dress. His hair was gelled and brushed back and that little bit of difference in hair styling gave him a whole new look that I loved. As an immortal, I don’t think Lance could ever look any less dashing but today, he seemed to be radiating happiness.
“You look beautiful.” We both said at the same time and ended up laughing.
“I’m nervous as hell.” I confessed to him as I went into his arms when Lance closed the door behind him and came forward.
“I’ll tell you a secret,” Lance held me close to his heart. “I am too.”
“Why?” I asked, looking up into his eyes. “It’s your coronation. You’re the star of today’s show.”
“I’ll become the next Incubus King.” Lance told me, caressing my cheek with one hand, taking comfort from me just as I was taking comfort from him. “I’m scared as hell that I’d end up failing my people, my mother, my father and my brother.”
I could understand why Lancelin was worried about living up to his parent’s expectations. The burden of the entire race will now be on his shoulders. Valleria Eustein was an amazing woman and an even better Queen. As far as Lancelin’s father went, he may be strict and stern and may have committed adultery, but he was also a fair and just King.
“I think you’ll do just fine.” I told him confidently, lifting up on my tippitoes to give him a small peck on the lips. “You’ll make a wonderful King.”
“And you’ll make a perfect Queen.”
The breath left my lungs as Lancelin whispered those words into my ears. “Lance…” I gasped.
“I know it’s sudden, but whenever I think about my future, about how I’ll spend the rest of my life,” he cupped my face in both his hands and brought our faces closer. “All I see is you.”
He placed a feather-light kiss to my forehead and I closed my eyes, drinking in the tenderness of the moment. “I don’t see any future without you Sanaya and I don’t want to.”
“Me neither, but we have time.” I told him. “You don’t have to propose to me right now.”
“No, I want my proposal to be perfect this time.” Lance smiled when I narrowed my eyes at him. “And it’ll be one of the best days of our life.”
“I know…” I smiled; my Lancelin had a tendency to go over the top when it came to me. “But every day with you is special to me.”
“I have something for you.” Lance said a bit nervously, moving away from me a bit and reaching into his pocket. “I know you didn’t want to make a decision right now and I’m okay with that, but you should have it…just in case you change your mind.”
He pulled out his fisted hand from his pocket and held it out for me. I was half expecting a ring because of his earlier talk about making me his Queen, but when I held out my hand, I did not expect what he handed over to me.
“You want me to take a shot?” I asked incredulously, frowning at the closed injection syringe in my palm. It held some kind of a silvery liquid inside it. The syringe wasn’t too big and there seemed to be about 15ml of liquid inside it.
Lance gave a slight nervous laugh. “It’s Erick’s venom. Vampire venom.”
My heart thrust against my rib-cage. Vampire venom; my only option of being with Lance for all eternity. “Lance…”
“Like I said,” he closed his hand over the syringe. “You don’t have to make any decisions now. The venom doesn’t have any expiry date so you can store it. I’m giving it to you now in case it goes missing in the hustle and bustle of today’s events.”
He took the syringe and put it in a hidden pocket at the side of my dress that I didn’t know existed until now. “Wow! Handy.” I patted the pocket, feeling the weight of the syringe inside it.
“Keep it with you for now and you can put it away after the ceremony is over.”
“Okay.” I sighed and held onto Lance’s hand, which seemed just as cold as mine. We were both nervous and rightfully so. It was a big day for Lance.
“Lance, Sanaya!” Amber knocked on the door before entering. “It’s time.”
“Ready?” Lance asked, holding out his elbow.
I took in a deep breath and let it out through my mouth. “Ready.” I confirmed, hooking my arm through his elbow and steadying myself. When we turned towards Amber, I realized just how stunning she looked dressed in a bright green gown with diamonds encrusted around the sweetheart neckline and the sleeves of her dress. It brought out the green of her eyes and complimented her red hair.
“Have all the guests arrived?” Lance asked Amber.
“Yes,” she took at look at the watch in her hand. “All except one. Miaka isn’t here yet.”
“Miaka? As in your sister, the Demon King?” I asked Lance. She was one of the people I was highly anticipating to meet since both Lance and Alina, the Vampire Queen, had praised her highly.
“She isn’t usually late but she did say she was busy with her studies recently.” Lance shrugged. “She’ll come, that much I’m sure of because she never goes back on her words. But she might be a bit late.”
“We call it being fashionably late, cousin mine.” Amber flipped her short hair back like a fashion diva, making me smile despite my nervousness.
The royal vampire couple, Erick and Alina, joined us midway, both dress in golden outfits. Erick’s suite jacket was similar to Lance’s but it was a light gold in colour and he wore a beautiful icy blue shirt to compliment his eyes. Alina’s dress too was a light gold with embroidered blue flowers on the flare of her skirt. They walked beside us until we reached the huge double doors to the throne room where Acelin stood with his hands in his pockets.
Acelin wasn’t in his usual white clothing today; instead the brothers seemed to have swapped colors. He was wearing a black on black suit and trousers with embroidered black work done on his jacket. His hair was styled back similar to Lance and a jeweled diamond encrusted pin shore on his lapel.
“Your Highness.” Acelin smiled and gave a short curtsy to Lance.
“I haven’t been crowned yet, brother.” Lance reminded him.
“It won’t be long now.” Acelin dusted off Lance’s jacket and gave him a side hug. “The day we’ve been waiting for is finally here.”
“Yes.” Lance nodded and handed me over to Acelin. “Take care of my heart, brother.”
“Of course.” Acelin took my hand and we moved aside as Lance stood in the centre.
I looked at Lance nervously and he nodded, telling me that everything will be alright before facing the huge mahogany doors. I vaguely appreciated the woodwork on the doors but then the guards at the side of the door were announcing our names and pushing the doors open.
My heart leapt up on to my throat.
