Chapter 40: Chapter 40
Chapter 39:
Sanaya’s P.O.V
I unlocked the door to Lance’s apartment and held it open so we could both enter at the same time. After two days in the hospital where the Lance’s specialist, also a Chrone in one of the Magean tribes, had fed him several dangerous looking liquids to boost up his healing and energy without having to feed, he was discharged to go home and rest well…and do an actual feeding for the sake of his health.
Lance looked fine on the outside but he was weaker than normal and his healing was slow. The bullet wound was an angry red spot on his chest that refused to subside and X-rays showed the presence of scar tissues inside his chest as well. Those potions and antidotes could only do so much.
“Why don’t you take a shower first and I’ll get dinner ready?” I told him a bit nervously.
“Sanaya,” Lance cupped my cheeks. “You don’t have to force yourself.”
“I’m not.” I told him honestly. “It’s just…I’m a bit nervous.”
“Why are you nervous?” Lancelin frowned.
“Well…it’s just…” I sighed heavily. Since there was no way of skirting around the subject now, I decided to hell with it and confessed my heart out. “You’ve been with thousands of women until now. And I know that sex is a way of feeding for you and I’m not holding that against you but it’s really hard to compare with such experienced women with my limited sexual knowledge and I know I’m going to mess up somewhere and then you’ll be disappoi-”
I didn’t get to finish the rest of my sentence because Lance’s lips were on my, stopping me from ranting all of my insecurities out in front of him and saving me the embarrassment of a lifetime. When he pulled away from me, having successfully shut me up, my face was beetroot red and I couldn’t dare meet my eyes.
“Yes, you are right.” Lance spoke as my heart slammed against my ribcage. “I’ve had sex with thousands of women in my life time, many of the well experienced in the verse of seduction. But I’ve never made love to anyone and I would like to make love with you.”
Lance lifted my face up with his fingers under my chin. His eyes were liquid amber when they met mine and they left me breathless. “For me, our pasts don’t matter. I don’t want to remember the world I lived in when you didn’t exist in it. My world started anew when I first met you. And tonight, I want to learn to make love to you. I don’t care about anything else as long as I’m with you.”
“Lance…” I whispered as I lifted on my tippitoes to place my lips on his in a slow, savoring kiss. Yes, we both have our pasts and it shouldn’t be the reason for inconveniences in our future. We’ve moved on in life and we have each other now. That’s all that matters.
“Sanaya…” Lance moved away from me gently. “I’ve just returned from the hospital. I think I should shower first. You should take a shower too.”
“Together?” I asked hopefully.
“I don’t think we’ll be getting any cleaner if we shower together.” Lance smiled. “I’ll shower in the guest room; you can take a shower in my room.”
“Okay.” I agreed a bit unwillingly, but I agreed with Lance. We should be getting clean first. Right out of hospital sex isn’t going to be healthy for me. Lancelin was immortal with inborn disease resistance, so he didn’t have to worry, but I did.
Lance left me in his room and went to the guest bathroom to shower and I took the opportunity to get down to business myself. I stripped off the clothing from the hospital and put them inside the washing machine to get cleaned up. Once inside the bathroom, I finally had a chance to look at myself and what stared back at me through the bathroom mirror had me horrified.
There was still some dried blood on the side of my face and neck. My hair was a bird’s nest and I had dark circles under my eyes. And worst of all, I smelled of the hospital.
I immediately jumped into the shower, turning the water to hot, rather than warm and began scrubbing myself clean. I used Lance’s shampoo and conditioner with the lemony fragrance and instantly felt more refreshed. Once I was done, I wrapped myself in one of Lance’s bathrobes and found a hair dryer in one of the bathroom cabinet drawers and blow dried my hair until it was no longer dripping.
I looked and felt much better although the nervousness was still there. Your first time with the man you love will always be nerve-racking, no matter if you’re a virgin or not.
Taking a deep breath, I left the bathroom and took a seat at the foot of Lancelin’s bed and as I waited for him to be done, a thousand thoughts and fears crossed my mind…most of them irrational, but everyone has something they are insecure about?
Should I be lying on the bed? Should I have dried my hair completely? What if I braided my hair instead…so it doesn’t get in the way? Oh my God! Should I have shaved? I was a bit on the curvier side…what if Lance didn’t like my body? Oh God, what if-
But then the door to his bedroom opened and Lance walked in wearing only a towel around his hips and all my thoughts and insecurities just immediately vanished.
To say that he was a gorgeous man would be an understatement.
Somehow, he looked even taller, standing just a few feet in front of me in nothing but a towel around his waist. His skin was smooth and like porcelain with tiny hairs dotting his arms and legs. His abs were defined and his abdomen taunt. The light scattering of hair on his lower abdomen disappeared into the towel and the only thing marring the beauty of his skin was the angry red mark on his chest, just a few inches away from his heart where he had been shot yesterday.
Now that he was finally unclothed, I was able to see the tattoo on his left arm. It was a picture of a phoenix in flight and it was magnificent. The artist had focused on every tiny detail down to the red eye of the phoenix and somehow, it suited him. He was just as majestic as the bird.
A droplet fell on his chest and rolled down and my eyes immediately followed it descent down his chest in a slow, lazy path down his abs and disappeared into the hem of the towel. His hair was dripping wet and unkempt and I had to curl my hands into fist by my side to stop myself from reaching out.
And then I met the molten amber of his eyes.
