Chapter 38: Chapter 38
Chapter 37:
Sanaya’s P.O.V
“Oh, shit!”
“What?” I turned to Amber to find her staring at the end of the hospital corridor, so I followed her gaze and met large, angry, emerald green eyes.
Her dark hair was in a high ponytail and she wore a pure white shirt with wide bell-bottom pants with the jacket slung casually over both shoulders. She wore large silver hoops in her ears and her makeup looked all natural. She looked like the symbol of purity but now I knew to look beyond the surface, right to the blackness of her heart that no amount of white could conceal.
“What is she doing here?” Acelin asked Amber. “Who told her about Lance?”
“Bitch has her eyes tainted on Lance twenty four-seven.” Amber sneered. “Probably has eyes inside ReefWood or she might even be the reason why Lance is in the hospital.”
But as Asmara neared the cabin, she went straight to the door, ignoring every one of us like she hadn’t even seen us or hadn’t just been glaring daggers at me. Acelin was the first to spring to his feet, followed by Amber, then me.
“You’re not allowed in here.” Acelin stopped Asmara before she could enter Lance’s room, pulling the door shut.
“You have no right to stop me!” Asmara sneered. “If there’s anyone who’s unworthy of being here, then it’s her!” She pointed a finger at me, her eyes sparking fire. “I warned her to stay away from Lancelin!”
“You what?” Acelin shoved her back when she tried to push past him. “How dare you try to harm Sana?”
“Sana! Sana! SANA!” Asmara screamed. “What’s so special about this fucking human bitch that everyone just worships the very ground she walks on? She’s the reason Lance got shot! How can you still take her side?”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Amber spat at her. “Why would Lance get shot because of Sanaya? Or is that your way of confessing that you shot Lance because of your jealousy?”
“Now who’s talking nonsense?” Asmara stepped towards Amber, her eyes liquid emerald. “I would never hurt Lancelin! I wouldn’t even waste a precious bullet for this pathetic human scum!”
“It must make you feel really frustrated then,” Amber smirked, folding her arms across her chest. “The fact that Lance chose a pathetic human instead of a cheating ass whore who slept with his father.”
“Guys, stop!” I snapped at both women, finding it hard to hold on to my patience any longer. “Lancelin just got out of the operation room! Can we please not make a commotion outside his room?”
“You-“
“And Asmara, Amber is right.” I cut her off before she could insult me some more. “By coming here and telling everyone that you warned me to stay away from Lance, you’re only proving yourself to be a villain. Please just go. When Lance wakes up, we’ll let him know you visited. But right now is really not a good time.”
“You know what? You’re right.” Asmara smiled her signature cunning smile at me. “I don’t need to be here with you scums. But Sanaya, I do hope you’ve taken my warning seriously now. This time, the bullet missed his heart. Maybe he won’t be so lucky next time? Or just maybe…it’ll be your turn next.”
With that, she turned and went out the way she had entered. I thought I saw Keith waiting for her at the end of the hallway but Amber’s phone ringing distracted me.
“Oh, shoot!”
“What happened this time?” Acelin frowned at her.
“Is your phone switched off?” Amber asked him instead. “Because that could be the only reason why aunt would be calling me instead of you.”
“Ah hell!” Acelin cursed. “Don’t pick it up. I’m calling her back.” With that, Acelin took out his phone from his pocket and practically ran out of the waiting area.
“And I have an important client dinner.” Amber sighed before turning to me. “Will you be alright on your own? I’m sure Acelin will return soon, but I really got to run.”
“It’s okay.” I told her with more confidence than I felt. “I’ll be fine. I’ll keep you updated.’
“Thank you so much!” Amber gave me a warm hug. “Take care!” And with that she was off too, leaving me alone in the hospital corridor.
Thankfully, a nurse came to check on Lancelin at that moment, momentarily reliving me of my duties. I told her to call me in case of any emergency and was about to go grab a cup of coffee when she stopped me.
“Here.” She handed me a change of clothes. “The blonde man with blue eyes asked me to hand this over to you. You should change; your clothes have a lot of dried blood.”
“Thank you.” I took the clothes from her and asked for directions for a changing room. I had completely forgotten about Lance’s blood staining my clothes or the fact that I still had his blood all over me. A hot shower can wait until I’d reached home but I needed to change my clothes immediately.
Since the nurses were kind enough to allow me into their changing room momentarily, I quickly took off of my clothes and put them in a plastic bag and changed into the mint green full-sleeved cashmere sweater and dark blue jeans. I then went into the washroom and sprinkled water on my hands and face to freshen up a bit before grabbing a cup of coffee from the cafeteria.
I took a minute to stretch and drink my coffee and once it was finished, I hurried back to Lance’s cabin. But as I neared the cabin, I thought I heard a noise from inside.
I shook my head. Lancelin was still unconscious and the doctor had told us he’d be out till tomorrow morning. But then the noise came again…slow and shrill, almost like a moan. So without wasting any time, I hurried to the door and put my hand on the door knob when I chanced a look inside the small glass window.
Nothing could have prepared me for what I witnessed next.
The nurse that had entered a few moments ago was lying on the bed, her clothes and hair messy. Her eyes were closed and her head was tilted back as her mouth opened in yet another moan.
And Lance was on top of her, pinning her down on the bed as he straddled her hips, his eyes a dark crimson that was glowing from within.
I watched in horror as Lance bent down and flicked out his tongue to glide it down her throat and lower…and lower…
