Chapter 477: Chapter 477: The burning kingdom
It was a slaughter. The knights and mages who sided with Prince James stood no chance against Amaya in the slightest. They tried their best, of course, but their best wasn’t good enough.
"Hold the line!"
"She’s too fast!"
"I don’t know where she went!"
"Arghhhh!"
"My leg!"
"Fuck! My face! She ripped off my face!"
Raymond already knew Amaya was strong after seeing her fight against the zombies, but this was different. She didn’t let the knights and mages get a hit in at all. It was as if she were hunting them, prey and predator.
Amaya’s favorite element to use was wind, and just like the wind, she was everywhere at once.
She clawed a knight’s throat out while she was already snapping the neck of a mage. Her sword cut multiple people in half, and the sheer speed of her movements ripped others to shreds.
It didn’t even take her a long time to kill them all as well. Everything happened in the span of five seconds.
One moment, the knights and mages witnessed one of their comrades die, some of them getting injured before they even realized it, and then the next, they were all dead already.
She left some of them alive just to fuck with them, and once they noticed that everyone around them was dead, their spirits being crushed and fear creeping down their bodies, Amaya killed them with a wicked grin on her face.
"Fuck, she’s so hot when she slaughters people like that!" Kai was turned on.
"I finished!" Amaya started wiping the blood off her body, the snow around her a deep, dark red instead of white.
"T-That’s insane!" The remaining knights and mages, the ones who didn’t side with Prince James, were all in awe. They were the best of the best in their kingdom. While some of them weren’t the strongest, they were definitely the most skilled.
But Amaya killed them all with no effort at all. It made them feel small, but not in a bad way. It was amazing to see how powerful people could be in their eyes. Even Hero Raymond was taken aback, and he was the strongest in the kingdom.
"So, what was that all about? Suddenly, they help us, and boom, they attack! Fucking crazy bastards. They said that they worked for Prince James, so maybe he’s planning a coup to take the kingdom for himself." Kai didn’t think James was stupid enough to attack in the middle of a national crisis, but he had to admit that it was a good plan, sort of.
"I’ve always known that the first prince was ambitious, but to do something like this is..." Raymond couldn’t believe that Prince James would compromise the security of their nation just to rule it. It was something a king shouldn’t do.
Already, he was showing how unfit he was to rule, and the people would see that.
Kai held his hand on his chin, thinking about what to do next before speaking. "Let’s head back to the capital and see what happened. Maybe we can question him."
"Who cares! Let’s just kill him!" Amaya took out her claws again.
"You know, that’s actually not a bad idea. Yeah, let’s just kill him! Hahaha! Come on! Wait! Do you want to arrive right away or arrive in style? Hmmm, decisions." This was very important. What’s the point of arriving on time if you don’t look cool?
That was why people arrived late and looked badass doing so. You never see a hero arriving on time looking like a badass.
"Right, that is important." Amaya started to think about what to do as well.
"What?" Raymond didn’t know if they were joking or not. Of course, he wanted to arrive on time; it was common sense. But to the two of them, Kai and Amaya, that wasn’t the case.
Arriving late while looking cool was just as important.
"Alright, we’ll arrive on time. I’m sure it’s bothering you anyway, Raymond. I don’t want you to cry any more than you already are." Kai understood how he felt.
"What? I’m not crying. While I would like to arrive on time to help people, this isn’t something I would cry about."
"Raymond, it’s okay. You don’t need to hold back your tears."
"But I wasn’t crying."
"Pfft, sure. Let’s go, Kai!" Amaya pointed her finger forward.
"Aye, aye, Captain!" He teleported all of them to the kingdom capital.
---
"How is this possible? Where did everything go wrong?" The third prince looked around him, seeing nothing but injured and dead bodies.
He and the Nord family were able to decimate the people who attacked the house, and his allies, who were strong, were able to defend their homes as well.
As for the people who weren’t strong enough to push back Prince James’s forces, Henry arrived to help them out, saving all of his allies and regrouping with them so they could storm the castle.
After resting for a bit, going over plans, and restocking on weapons, food, magic scrolls, and other supplies, they stormed the castle.
The result? Utter defeat.
James had expected Henry to do something like this, so he had all of his allies use teleportation scrolls to arrive at the castle and defend it. This didn’t even include the Royal Army that fought for James, even if they didn’t want to.
Henry’s trump card, Izzy, was doing all of the heavy lifting. She managed to get them as far as they did, but then some guy who was a tier-10 knight managed to subdue her.
It was strange because Izzy had easily dealt with a tier-10 mage with ease just moments before. But this knight was different; his energy felt different.
"Any last words, little brother?" James walked over to Henry, who was holding his arm as it was broken.
"Go to hell."
"That’s not very nice."
"Neither is what you’re doing. You’ll never be recognized as the true king! You killed Father, attacked during a national crisis, couldn’t help the people during the blizzard, and now you have the royal army going around the kingdom, tearing down doors just to find people who you think will oppose your reign. The kingdom is burning because of YOU!"
James didn’t like those words and kicked Henry in the chest.
"Let me tell you something, little brother. The king does not care what the little people think. I am the one with power, not them."
"If it’s not for the people, then who are you even a king of?" Henry asked
James didn’t answer because he couldn’t. The question struck right where it hurts. A king was nothing without his people. You can’t be a king of nothing.
"Just die." James attacked.
