Chapter 475: Chapter 475: Civil War
It didn’t take long for the third prince to catch wind of what was going on. Only the nobles who supported him were suddenly attacked, and when he got the news of his father’s death, he knew that it was James behind everything.
However, Henry wasn’t able to do anything as all of the knights who were loyal to the crown went out to find him.
"Sir, we need to find a safe place to stay!" Glenda, his attendant, urged him.
"You don’t think I know that? Everyone who supported me was either killed or injured, and the rest are too far away. There’s no way they can help me now. And even if they want to, they will prioritize the well-being of their family over protecting me."
"Then they’re traitors!" She growled
"No, they’re smart. I’m one person; they are a whole family. I would do the same thing as well. Don’t fault someone for taking care of their family."
Glenda was quiet for a bit. "What about Kai. He can help us."
"He’s out of the capital right now."
"Why don’t we head to the Nord house? They should be able to help us. I doubt they would fall for the First Prince’s scheme. Maybe Kai put some protection around their estate?"
Henry thought about it for a bit and decided to go with that plan.
"Alright, let’s do that. If they are okay, then we’ll send a message to the rest of my faction and tell them that we will be going to war."
---
Around the kingdom, the houses that were attacked recovered quickly. Most of the patriarchs were powerful mages or knights, so they were able to protect their homes to some degree.
The destruction was the least of their problems; it was the death of some of their people and family. It wasn’t just anger or rage they felt; it was fury that turned into madness.
"James! He will pay for what he has done!" One of the Patriarchs shouted in anger.
"Find out what happened and learned who was affected. Once that’s done, send a message to them all. This is war!"
Every patriarch felt the same, but not all of them were able to fight like the stronger houses. Still, they planned on giving their support in any way they could.
Eventually, Henry made it to the Nord estate, and he was glad to see that they were completely fine.
"Prince Henry? You’re safe. Quickly, come inside." Axel led him to a room, bringing him tea and cookies.
"I’m glad that nothing happened to you, Lord Axel." Henry sighed in relief.
"I agree. After learning what happened, I was hoping that you were okay. We have to tell your father about this."
Henry had a grim expression. "My father is dead. Before I could even understand what was going on, I was escorted out of the castle. My mother and sister are prisoners of James, and he’s declared himself the king."
"My goddess! What horrible news!"
"Have you heard from Kai?" Glenda asked
Axel shook his head. "No. After he left, we haven’t heard from him since. Why?"
"We will need his help if we want to take down James. He has the full support of his faction and Philip’s former faction."
"Heh, don’t worry. Kai gave us a trump card. Bring her in."
After a few minutes, Izzy walked into the room.
"Prince Henry, this is the head of the family mages, Izzy Bluefield. She’s a tier-10 mage."
"W-What?! A-A tier 10 mage? How?" This was big news. There weren’t a lot of tier-10 knights or mages in the kingdom, so everyone knew who was one. Izzy wasn’t one of the known superpowers of this kingdom.
"Kai helped her get that strong. She will be helpful to our cause." Axel smiled.
Henry agreed, smiling as he could feel his fighting spirit coming back.
"I need to send a message to everyone. Can you arrange that?" Henry asked
"I’ll arrange a meeting right away."
Over the next few hours, Henry speaks with his entire faction, informing them about what he knew, while they also shared new information that came into the light. They came up with a time and place to meet up and were not planning on talking things out.
"We won’t let James get away with any of this. That’s all for now. We’ll see each other—"
BOOOOOM
A loud explosion rocked the Nord estate; no, every noble house that was a part of Henry’s faction was attacked.
"We’re under attack!"
"It’s the First Prince’s forces!"
"Sound the alarms and get into positions! We will hold them off!"
Quickly, Henry said some words while everyone was still here. "If you can defend yourself, then do it; if you can’t, then just surrender. We will rescue you when we can and help you out after we handle ourselves. We will not lose this war!"
"Yes, Prince!"
Henry hung up. "Glenda, let’s go. I will not hide while my brother tries to kill my people and take my life."
"I’m right behind you!"
"I’ll try to send a message to Kai," Narmeena said to her husband.
"Good. Having his support will be great. Prince Henry, let’s go!" Axel donned his armor and then ran out of his house to join the battle, his sons following behind.
The sheer number of soldiers attacking the estate was shocking. It was as if Prince, or King James, wanted to end this civil war in a night.
"Commander, the Prince is here!" One of the enemy knights shouted
"What? Haha! Well, isn’t it my lucky day? Men, kill the prince!"
"Yes, Sir!"
All of the Nord Knights and Mages fought with everything they had, putting their lives on the line to defend their home.
It was a hard, overwhelming battle, but thanks to Izzy, they made it out with not even one death, though they had a lot of wounded.
She channeled her power and rained down a torrent of elemental power that wiped out more than half of the enemy forces in one go.
"W-What? Impossible! How is a Tier-10 mage here?" The enemy commander wanted to retreat, but he wasn’t able to.
Henry cut him down before he even realized, and he died, not able to inform his faction of the power Henry’s faction possessed.
