Chapter 473: Chapter 473: Behind the scenes
"Kai, I’m sure you’ve noticed the sky. We could use your help in this crisis. Our goddess told us to contact you for your aid." The King informed him.
"Did she now? That’s interesting." Kai was going to help them regardless, but he didn’t like that Frostina told them that he was going to.
It was the same feeling when you already planned on washing the dishes, then your parents told you to wash the dishes even though you were about to do them. That shit is mad annoying.
"Yes. I hope that you will lend us your aid. You and Hero Raymond are the strongest there. With the two of you joining forces, I’m sure you both will be able to push back these demons!"
"Ahh, they are zombies, not demons. Well, they are demons, but zombie demons." Kai explained.
"What?" The king was confused.
"Let me explain," Kai told them eveything.
"I see. So, in order to kill them, we need to completely destroy their bodies, or they will keep attacking. I will relay this information to everyone else. Sir Kai, Hero Raymond, please depart immediately. We have a kingdom to protect."
"Yes, your majesty." Raymond bowed.
"See ya."
---
"This is my chance." Prince James was in his room, going over all of the information in front of him. He was informed about the current state of the kingdom and what his father was doing to protect it.
"What do you plan on doing, your highness?" James’s attendant asked
"Listen, Carl, this is a prime moment for me to strike while the iron’s hot. My father is too focused on protecting the kingdom right now, and Henry would never expect me to go ahead with my ambitions at such a moment."
"I see. You wish to restart the succession war amidst the chaos."
"Exactly. This is the perfect time to strike, when no one is expecting it."
"How will we proceed? It won’t be easy to attack when everyone is currently on high alert."
"Haha, Carl, that’s the reason why it will work. They are on high alert because of whatever is attacking the kingdom. Now, if we attacked openly, then yeah, it would be pretty dumb on our part, but we don’t have to. This is a time of crisis; everyone is on the same page, or at least they should be."
Carl understood what Prince James was getting at. James was basically saying that he would go to his enemies in the guise of a Prince who is worried about his people and kingdom, not selfish gains.
Then, when they are least expecting it, he would attack them and either have them submit or die.
Carl liked that idea, and he was absolutely on board with it. The only problem was the Nord family and Kai being with them.
He was strong, too strong for them to fight off against, and if they caught wind of his plans, Prince James knew that they would tear him down instantly.
"Your highness, King Louis just sent Sir Kai and Hero Raymond to face off against the demons. They have departed." A messenger said, arriving at James’s quarters.
"Well, things just keep getting better and better." James smiled and stood up. "Carl, let’s proceed with our plans."
---
Kai was marching with the Demon Execution squad as they made their way to the nearest place that had signs of demon activity.
The squadron was joined by thousands of soldiers, knights, and mages who then broke off into teams to protect the land.
"This is the village, Sir Kai." One of the knights informed him, looking at his map.
"Let’s get to work. Our top priority is to rescue the people and bring them to safety. Disperse!"
Everyone flooded the town, rescuing everyone they could while fighting off the zombie demons. The number of zombies outnumbered the soldiers ten to one, but that didn’t mean the soldiers weren’t able to properly attack and defend.
The zombies weren’t that strong and only acted like mindless creatures. They did, however, carry a bit of Promordial Decay in themselves, so Kai powered up the soldiers to make sure they were actually able to defeat them.
Some demon zombies were strong, as they were powerful before they died, but Kai took care of them, turning their dead bodies into ash with fire.
"How’s everything coming along, commander?" Kai asked
"We’ve managed to secure the town and bring the citizens to safety. The rest of our forces have driven the zombies out of town and are dealing with them as we speak."
Kai nodded. "Good. I’ll head to the other towns and clean up everything there. I’ll be following the map route, so once you finish up here, just head to the other towns in order to make the citizens feel safe."
"Understood."
Kai took off.
He made his way to the next town, arriving within seconds and killing all of the zombies there with ease, reassuring and healing the citizens before moving to the next town or village.
He continued this until his portion of the map was taken care of. He could end this all with a simple swipe of his hand, but that would remove the fun in his eyes.
"Okay, now that I’m done here, maybe I can go and help out Raymand if he needs it." As he prepared to go help the Hero out, a black cat suddenly fell out of the sky.
"What the fuck?!" Kai caught the cat, thinking that a zombie demon had grabbed it, then dropped it after not wanting it anymore.
"Fucking cruel bastards! How could you do this to a cute cat! It’s okay, cutie, I’ll adopt you. Amaya would love having you around."
The cat meowed, which melted his heart. "Cats are the best, man. I can never hate them."
He started petting the cat, and it purred while rubbing its head on his hand. Kai was so caught up with the cat’s cuteness that he completely forgot about helping Raoymond.
"Oh crap! I nearly got sidetracked. Don’t worry, kitty, I’ll pet you some more later. I gotta go and fight some zombies!"
"Sounds fun, can I join?"
"Sure, if you want. But it could be—" He paused, then turned to the cat.
"Did you just talk?"
"Duh. Did you think you were hearing things or something?" The cat started glowing, then it morphed into a person.
"AMAYA?!"
