Chapter 306: Chapter 306: Songs can be deadly
Kai looked on the cliffside and saw creatures that looked to be harpies. They were very, very beautiful with big boobs, but they had wings for arms and talons for legs.
"Birds?" Amaya asked.
"No, those are harpies." Iris was prepared to attack them since they were considered monsters.
Kai shook his head. "You’re both wrong, those are Sirens."
"Uhh, Kai, I think you might be mistaken. Sirens are creatures of the sea." From what Cornelia had read, Sirens were akin to mermaids and lulled sailors to their deaths, where they would then eat them.
"No, that’s a misconception. Sirens are bird women who have wonderful voices. However, they actually arent evil. They simply sing their hearts out, which lulls the soul of a person, sometimes causing them to crash their ship." Even though Kai said this, this information was only from the Greek Mythology stories he learned about, not because of his experience in this world.
"Really? Well, I’ve never encountered a Siren before, so maybe you’re right."
"Don’t take my word for it, I could be wrong."
"Lalalalalalalalalala"
"My god, their singing is so fucking trash."
"Squawk! Why isn’t the meat getting lulled by our song?" The siren asked its sister
"I don’t know, Squawk! But that tall meat looks very juicy!"
Kai, who heard their entire conversation, pointed to himself. "Me?"
"Squawk! The meat heard us!"
"You know, Cornelia, you might be right about them being harpies. They are calling us ’meat’ and Sirens don’t eat people...depending on which version you look at."
She had no idea what he was talking about. "Version?"
"Yeah. Greek... never mind. Just know that you might be correct."
Back on the cliff, the Sirens, now known to actually be Harpies, flew away, seeing that no one was falling for their horrible singing. "Alert Master. Meat not being controlled."
"Ha, that’s right, you stupid birds! Fly away and don’t come back!" Amaya threw a rock at them to emphasize her threat, but it hit the cliffside and doinked into the water.
"Cornelia, you can keep steering the ship. I doubt the harpies will be back since we didn’t get lulled by their song." Kai still thought it was weird that harpies were the ones to lull people in this world, but this world was weird to begin with, so he just disregarded it.
They were quickly back on their way, following the current of the river until they found another city or town to dock at. The waters were still pretty deadly with whirlpools, jagged rocks, and wood-eating fish, but everything was handled with ease.
Barry was stuck in his mind, thinking about what Kai had told him the other day. He still couldn’t get over the fact that Kai never wanted to be the hero, nor did he care to act heroic. Kai only looked out for himself and the people he cared about.
This went against everything Barry learned at the church. He was taught to be a helping hand to everyone. But then Kai’s remark on him not helping with hunger or sicknesses really got to him.
He got stronger recently as well. After Patty and Iris woke up, they transferred power to him. But even with that power, he was but a fraction of what Kai’s strength was.
’I need to get stronger so I can prove Kai wrong. I’ll be the best hero in history!’ He clenched his fists, and his resolve was solidified.
As he looked up into the sky, something white dropped onto his face. It was wet and pretty slimy, so Barry wiped it off quickly in case it was something weird. Looking at the white substance, he had no idea what it was.
"What is this white rain?" Another drop landed on his shoulder, then on the floor next to him, and then around him.
White rain started dropping all over the ship, getting the attention of everyone. Nadya and Patty made a barrier around the ship until the ship’s barrier kicked in. They had no idea what this white rain was, and they didn’t want it to do any more damage than it already was, IF it was doing damage in the first place.
"Hold on." Kai touched the white rain and then examined it extensively.
"What is it?" Gwen asked.
Kai didn’t answer and stared at it more intensely.
"Kai, what is it?" Amaya asked.
Once more, Kai didn’t answer and kept staring at it.
"I-Is he okay?"
"I dunno. Want me to knock him out?" Sasha was already swinging her hammer like a bat toward Kai’s head.
The mana around Kai’s body fluctuated and then skyrocketed. Everyone took a step back in case something happened.
"Something is definitely up with him." Gwen took no chances and had her staff ready in case Kai started acting weird.
"Relax. Nothing is wrong with him." Sasha walked over to Kai and grabbed his shoulder. "See, he’s just-ARGHH!" A strong grip around her neck put her into shock. She kicked and punched, but nothing was effective.
"What’s going on!?" Amaya went full power from the start, attacking Kai so he could let go of Sasha, but she was backhanded and crashed into the hull.
"Amaya! Fuck! Wait, his eyes! Look at his eyes!" Gwen pointed to Kai’s purple eyes and his blank expression.
"H-He’s mind controlled!"
Every single one of them went into a battle position. They knew that if they even wanted to stand a chance against Kai, they would need to work together and fight as if they needed to kill him.
"M-Must Kill!" Kai said in a broken voice.
"K-Kai! Please! It’s me! Sasha!" She begged him to come back to his senses, but nothing worked.
Then, when no one was looking, Barry sliced at Kai’s arm, doing no damage, but it was enough to make him drop Sasha.
She coughed violently, rubbing her neck as she gasped for air.
"Sasha! Are you okay?" Nadya rushed to her aid, healing her neck.
"Who dares take control of my husband! I’ll FUCKING KILL YOU!" Karumi’s energy exploded, and she transformed into a giant nine-tailed fox.
"She has the right idea." Gwen powered up fully and transformed.
Everyone who could transform did so as well. Others, like Kyan, summoned their spirits or equipped their strongest armor and weapons.
Kai responded in kind, releasing his full power against everyone.
All of them were forced to their knees, barely able to lift a finger.
"G-Guy, we might be fucked!"
