Chapter 69: Chapter 69
Then Jared Sullivan kept Paige Sterling at the Sterling family home, not letting her leave for several days.
Even when Paige went to the island, he had someone follow her, clearly not wanting Paige to meet Julian Hawthorne for the time being.
In such times, Paige had no choice but to go along with Jared.
Therefore, she hadn’t seen Julian for several days.
Even her phone calls were restricted by Jared.
That day, shortly after Paige returned home, guests arrived.
Paige was in the study talking with Jared, and she vaguely heard Yvette Hughes talking with someone in the living room.
Upon hearing that familiar voice, Paige instinctively stood up, but was called back, "Sit down properly."
Paige said, "Dad, it sounds like we have guests. I’ll go entertain them."
"You go back to your room and don’t come out, I’ll go."
Then he got up and went downstairs.
Paige sighed and resignedly went back to her room.
Her dad had a bit of a male chauvinistic streak; if she went against him, it definitely wouldn’t work.
She wondered if Julian could pass this hurdle with her dad.
Paige opened her bedroom window and saw a black Cayenne parked outside, which seemed like the one Julian often drove.
She watched it for a while, then drew the curtains and got into bed.
Suddenly, she heard a noise and sat up in bed, turning around.
Seeing Julian climbing in through her window, she was stunned.
"You’re climbing in?"
Julian walked over, his eyes looking at her deeply, "I haven’t seen you for a week."
Paige rubbed her nose, "Dad is hard to get around. He won’t let me see you."
"Your dad won’t let you, so you really didn’t contact me?"
Julian realized Paige was quite resolute.
With a woman , either don’t provoke her from the start, or if you do, be prepared to treat her well all your life.
Julian chose the latter option, so what else could he do?
"This is only temporary," Paige saw Julian was full of resentment, and comforted him a bit, "Did you ask your family if there’s any feud between our families?"
Julian shook his head, "It might have something to do with my mom."
But his mom had lived abroad for years and rarely returned.
Even his relationship with her was quite distant, and Julian was hesitant to ask, fearing he might mention something she didn’t want to remember, and upset her.
Paige said, "My dad isn’t willing to talk about it, but seeing my dad, I think he’s involved too. Do you think..."
Paige looked up, "Could there be something secretive between my dad and your mom? Are we..."
Julian flicked her forehead, "What nonsense are you spouting?"
If that were the case, Jared wouldn’t have the current attitude.
He flicked her forehead red, then couldn’t help but lean down and gently kissed it.
Paige pushed him onto the bed and also flicked his forehead.
The two were playfully teasing each other when someone knocked on the door outside.
Paige shivered and heard Jared’s voice.
"Beau, are you sleeping?" Orıginal content can be found at 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡⁂𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚⁂𝙣𝙚𝙩
Paige said, "I’m about to sleep."
However, Jared didn’t leave and said, "Don’t sleep yet, Dad wants to talk to you about something."
Feeling Jared was about to push the door, Paige hurriedly pushed Julian, "Hurry, climb out the window."
Julian said, "It’s too high."
"Then how did you climb in?"
Julian, "...Beau, should I hide in your closet?"
Being called Beau by him made Paige feel slightly weak.
When Jared opened the door and found it locked, he was instantly a bit frantic outside.
"Hawthorne, don’t go too far! Do you believe I’ll call the police for trespassing?"
Paige, "...", it turns out Jared knew.
Paige felt like a sandwich cookie, caught between her dad and her lover.
Generally, aren’t sandwich cookies women squeezed between their mother-in-law and husband? How did it reverse with her?
"Julian, hurry up and leave; do you want my dad to kill you?"
Julian didn’t seem particularly moved, so Paige could only persuade him, "I’ll call you tomorrow, hurry."
It was only then Julian left.
After he left, Paige went to open the door.
As soon as he came in, Julian’s eyes sharply scanned the room.
After scanning the room and not seeing anyone, he ran to the window and saw Julian driving his Cayenne away.
Jared angrily cursed and glared at Paige a few times, "You-you-you-you..."
After saying "you" several times, he couldn’t scold her seeing her face, and said, "Disgraceful!"
Paige rubbed her nose, and Jared said disappointedly, "I’m a man, wouldn’t I understand men? Don’t you know when he’s easily got you, he won’t cherish you! Men only cherish women they’ve worked hard to win!"
No wonder her dad was watching that palace drama lately, it must be for this reason?
The next day, Paige indeed called Julian.
However, at that time Julian was meeting Jared. When he saw Paige’s caller ID, he glanced at Jared before stepping aside to answer.
He didn’t mention he was meeting Jared, but Paige sensed it from his tone and instantly felt some sympathy.
"My dad is quite easygoing, huh."
Julian hummed in response; speaking ill of his father-in-law in front of his wife was a sure way to lower one’s emotional intelligence, something he certainly wouldn’t do.
After hanging up, Julian sat back down.
Jared scrutinized Julian with sharp eyes. After a while, he said, "I don’t need to be nervous, I won’t make things difficult for you."
Adding, "I trust my daughter’s judgement, so any decision she makes I will naturally support without question."
Julian adopted a humble listening posture. Jared then asked, "Does your family know about you and Beau?"
Julian said, "I’ll find the right time to tell them."
"Are you sure your family can accept a daughter from the Sterling family?"
Julian said, "She’s exceptional."
Paige’s excellence could erase any prejudices, and since his family wasn’t unreasonable, Julian had confidence in that.
"Regardless of what my family thinks, my feelings won’t change, and I won’t let Paige suffer even a tiny bit because of marrying me."
Jared nodded, "Okay, remember what you said today — don’t let my daughter suffer, not one bit."
Jared took out a cigarette, and Julian quickly got up to light it for him.
Jared glanced at him; indeed, a son-in-law couldn’t match the attentiveness of a daughter. Daughters worried about him smoking even one more cigarette, while sons-in-law worried he smoked too little; whatever Jared looked at, he wasn’t satisfied.
But what could he do if his daughter liked him?
Jared lifted Paige’s restrictions, and she could finally meet Julian.
However, Julian still couldn’t see her because she was very busy; he went to the island several times but never saw her.
Three days later, Paige finally returned to Silverstream Bay.
Julian opened the door and saw her sitting cross-legged on the couch, eating chips.
She glanced at Julian and continued eating chips.
There wasn’t the slightest thrill of reunion.
Julian pursed his lips and sat beside her.
Feeling the distance was a bit far, he slowly inched closer, bit by bit getting nearer to Paige.
