Chapter 340: Chapter 340
Skylar Hughes became a little flustered, "Paige, you’re still trying to argue your way out of this? All you lost was some reputation, but my mom lost a child, a woman’s lifelong support! If it wasn’t for you, why did you deliberately remind my mom to take good care of her pregnancy? Why did you try to avoid suspicion with my mom? Wasn’t it all to clear your own name in advance? You really are a master manipulator, and the loss of your reputation was brought on by your own wrongdoing. You have only yourself to blame, not others."
Then she turned to Yvette Hughes, "Mom, don’t believe her. She’s just afraid that if Uncle Sterling has a son, he won’t care about her anymore, so she targeted you. If you believe her, things will happen again. She won’t tolerate the Sterling Family having a son..."
Yvette Hughes thought Skylar’s words made a lot of sense.
Paige Sterling laughed coldly, "My dad and I have relied on each other since I was a child; our father-daughter relationship is strong, that’s true. But I’m not a child who can’t survive without my father. If I wanted my father’s attention and affection, I just had to say I didn’t want him to marry, and he wouldn’t have gotten married."
That was true. When Jared Sullivan brought Yvette Hughes to meet Paige Sterling, Yvette was very apprehensive.
She knew that if Paige said she didn’t like her, she wouldn’t be able to marry Jared Sullivan.
Skylar Hughes continued to argue forcefully, trying to convince Yvette that the culprit was indeed Paige Sterling.
"No matter what excuses you give, my mom’s miscarriage is inseparable from you, Paige. No matter how eloquent you are, you carry the weight of my brother’s life on your conscience! My mom and I will never forgive you!"
A cold voice sounded at the door, "So what do you want?"
Jared Sullivan hadn’t been to the hospital for the past few days.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to come, but seeing Yvette Hughes in her current state was too complicated for him.
Yvette Hughes kept challenging his boundaries. She said she’d marry alone but brought Skylar anyway.
She promised to treat Paige well but only favored Skylar.
She said she wouldn’t want children, only to secretly get pregnant.
And now, this happened.
He knew he couldn’t blame Yvette Hughes, but whenever he thought of her questioning Paige, he couldn’t get past it.
Perhaps because, in his heart, his daughter is the most important, just as Skylar is most important to Yvette Hughes.
Jared Sullivan walked in, and Skylar immediately stood up.
"Uncle Sterling, don’t blame me for speaking harshly, I’m left with no choice. After all, with my mom , if I don’t fight for her, no one will."
Jared Sullivan remained cold, "So what do you want?"
Skylar took a deep breath, "Your Sterling Family wronged my mom in this matter. My mom is kind-hearted and doesn’t want to make a fuss, and I have no choice. But keeping the peace is one thing, Uncle Sterling, you need to show some attitude? My mom lost a child; shouldn’t there be some tangible compensation for her?"
Jared Sullivan laughed coldly inside. See, it finally came.
All this concern for Yvette was just an excuse to try and get more benefits from the Sterling Family.
At this point, Jared Sullivan even felt sorry for Yvette Hughes, who considered her daughter her last lifeline, not knowing her daughter was deceiving and manipulating her.
To let Yvette see Skylar’s true colors, Jared Sullivan played along, "What compensation do you think would be appropriate?"
Skylar believed Jared had compromised since he doted so much on his daughter, he couldn’t possibly let his daughter carry the stigma of being a murderer, right?
If so, there was no need to be coy; she had to seize the opportunity to secure benefits.
"It’s simple, transfer 25% of VastReach’s shares and 40% of Penson’s shares to my mom as compensation for her child loss."
Skylar had privately investigated that the miscarriage left Yvette Hughes unable to have more children.
So she became Yvette’s only biological daughter.
And through this incident, Yvette developed a rift with Paige, might even hate Paige, so any transferred shares surely wouldn’t go to Paige, only to her.
So whether the shares were in Yvette’s name or hers, it made no difference. Tʜe source of this ᴄontent ɪs 𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝✶𝕗𝕚𝕣𝕖✶𝕟𝕖𝕥
It wouldn’t take long to persuade Yvette to transfer them into her name.
Jared Sullivan laughed, "You’re truly dreaming."
If VastReach’s 25% and Penson’s 40% fell into Skylar’s hands, his daughter and he would basically be working for Skylar.
Skylar really was making outrageous demands.
And hearing Skylar’s words, Yvette Hughes was also stunned.
She just wanted an explanation, wanted to know Paige’s motives for targeting her, never thought about compensation.
"Mom, don’t speak. You deserve this. If the Sterling Family truly felt guilty towards you, they wouldn’t be stingy with these shares."
Skylar silenced Yvette, then looked at Jared Sullivan, "Uncle Sterling, my mom lost a child, asking for these shares isn’t excessive. Or do you think those shares are more important than my mom and my late brother?"
Yvette also looked at Jared Sullivan, wanting to know if in his heart the shares mattered more or she did.
If she was more important, Jared giving her these shares was no big deal, after all, she was part of the Sterling Family and wouldn’t use them against him.
As for Penson’s shares...
Her child was gone because of Paige, so it was right for Paige to compensate her with some shares.
She would transfer them to Skylar later. After all, she only had this one daughter, she had to plan for her.
Seeing Yvette’s expectant gaze on him, Jared Sullivan was momentarily at a loss for words.
Paige, however, laughed aloud.
"It seems Aunt also wants the shares of VastReach and Penson."
Yvette pursed her lips in silence, wanting to say it wasn’t greed for those shares, but that they were hers to have, because she lost a child...
But seeing Paige’s sarcastic and no-longer-polite expression, she was speechless.
"What my dad has, it’s his freedom to give, I won’t interfere. But as for Penson, if you want money from me, we’ll have to see if you’re that lucky."
Everyone knew how stingy Paige was, and apart from her, the person holding the most shares in the company was Julian Hawthorne.
And even Julian Hawthorne did not have more than 5%.
Yet Skylar asked for 40%, as if simply walking away with half of another’s empire. Her imagination was too fanciful.
Some people just got used to taking from others, thinking that what belonged to others was naturally theirs to take as they pleased, without reservation.
"Paige, what do you mean? Do you not have any sincerity?"
Paige, "I sincerely want to send you to prison, would you like to go?"
Skylar’s face turned extremely unpleasant, "Do you have no regard for my mom at all?"
If Paige dared to nod, Jared Sullivan would likely have issues with her, which is why Skylar purposely asked this.
Yet it was Jared Sullivan who said, "No way will you get Penson’s shares, and don’t even think about VastReach’s either!"
Yvette’s child was gone, Jared Sullivan also grieved, but what pained him more was this current situation.
