Chapter 284: Chapter 284

Before long, the door of the operating room opened, and Julian Hawthorne was pushed out.

Paige Sterling saw that he seemed to be unconscious and was a bit worried, "Is he badly hurt?"

The doctor immediately said, "It’s just a minor injury, a few stitches, nothing serious, he’s just asleep right now."

Julian Hawthorne was wheeled into the ward, and before long, he woke up.

Paige Sterling looked at him with concern, but saw Julian Hawthorne sitting up, looking at Paige with a very unfamiliar gaze.

Paige’s expression froze, staring at Julian.

Didn’t the doctor say Julian only hurt his leg? Why is there amnesia?

Seeing Julian’s unfamiliar gaze, Paige immediately wondered how likely it was that Julian was possessed.

"You really don’t know me anymore?"

Paige’s wounded expression immediately changed Julian’s unfamiliar gaze, after all, he couldn’t bear to see Paige upset.

Paige’s expression froze, still not switching from the complex look earlier, making her whole expression seem somewhat grim.

"Didn’t you say you didn’t know who I was?"

Julian, "The anesthesia muddled my head for a moment, I didn’t react right away."

Paige made a sound of disbelief, clearly not buying Julian’s explanation, her eyes cold.

Julian felt a bit guilty and instantly turned into a pitiful sight, hugging his leg and looking at Paige with grievance in his eyes, "Beau, it hurts."

Paige maintained a cool facade, but couldn’t hide her concern, "It’s stitched, of course it hurts. You shouldn’t have driven recklessly."

Julian seized the opportunity, "Beau, sit closer to me, if I see you, it won’t hurt."

Mr. Hawthorne was now fully immersed in his act of being pitiful.

Paige knew he was acting, but since she knew he was truly hurt, she couldn’t bear to deny any of his requests and sat by Julian’s side.

Julian pulled her into his arms, "I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have lied to you."

Paige huffed, but didn’t argue with Mr. Hawthorne about the small issue.

She was more concerned about something else, "How did you get into the car accident?"

Julian tried to brush it off as a minor incident, "It was just a small accident."

However, Paige thought this accident was not minor at all, seeing Julian not explain, she eyed him askance.

Julian almost couldn’t hold on to his honesty.

But then, suddenly someone knocked on the door of the ward.

Paige and Julian instinctively looked up and saw Austin Xavier standing at the door.

Austin had his hand in a plaster cast hanging from his neck, seemingly injured too.

One injured leg, the other an injured hand, both appearing in the hospital, it was truly an odd sight.

Paige’s eyes darted around as she heard Austin pull the corner of his mouth, "Mr. Hawthorne, all right?"

This concern was clearly fake, with an air of glee, "I heard Mr. Hawthorne’s injuries are worse than mine and even required stitches, came over to see you specially, hospitalized, it seems indeed quite severe..."

He continued, "The doctor said I only have superficial injuries, no need for hospital stay, just come back for regular check-ups, Mr. Hawthorne seems to not be suitable for young people’s games due to age."

As if being less injured than Julian was something to be proud of.

Paige immediately understood what sort of ’accident’ Julian had encountered.

Clearly, it was an encounter with Austin where they either collided vehicles or went racing.

Though Mr. Hawthorne at home was typically like a fierce wolf, outside he was always calm and reserved, Paige truly didn’t expect Mr. Hawthorne to do such a thing outside.

She shot Julian a warning glance, then gave Austin a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, "Mr. Xavier doesn’t seem too seriously hurt."

Austin laughed, "Yes, I’m still young, the doctor says I’m in good physical shape, the plaster will come off in a few days, unlike Mr. Hawthorne with his old bones."

Julian’s expression was very calm, yet beneath the surface, there seemed to be a fierce beast ready to swallow Austin whole.

Paige continued to smile, "So Mr. Xavier is going home now?"

Austin disliked Paige calling him Mr. Xavier over and over, as if trying to draw a line between them, he coldly said, "Of course, hospitals aren’t pleasant places."

But Paige said, "Then I’ll see Mr. Xavier out."

Austin froze, "You’re seeing me off?"

Paige smiled, "Yes, it’s kind of you, a young man, willing to play games with our Old Hawthorne and even got yourself hurt, I feel a bit guilty, seeing you off is the least I can do."

Julian, suddenly angry, sat up straight, but Paige pressed him down, "Behave yourself."

Then Paige went to see Austin off. Tʜe sourcᴇ of thɪs content ɪs 𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭•𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘦•𝘯𝘦𝘵

Austin gave Julian a provocative smile before leaving the ward with Paige trailing.

Simon Hawthorne arrived at the hospital to see his brother just in time to see Paige and Austin leaving.

He was puzzled, immediately asking in the ward, "Bro, sis-in-law went out with Austin Xavier, didn’t you see?"

"And you can still smile?" He felt his sister-in-law’s smile was getting more and more peculiar.

Julian said, "She’s in love with me."

Simon was utterly confounded, completely not understanding what Julian meant, suddenly he clapped his hands and stood up, "Bro, I better keep an eye! What if that scoundrel Austin bullies sis-in-law!"

Yet his eyes couldn’t hide the gleam of wanting to watch the drama unfold.

After saying this, he almost flew out the door.

Sure enough, he saw Austin being pressed and beaten by his sister-in-law.

Indeed, his sister-in-law was someone who never delayed payback for even a day!

She really was beating him too enthusiastically.

Even Simon felt sorry for Austin, why would he provoke his brother for no reason? Didn’t he know that his brother has a phenomenal and protective woman back home?

Beaten to the point where Austin couldn’t take care of himself for a while, Paige clapped her hands and walked back.

Simon quickly hid, to avoid being caught and getting beaten too.

Back in the ward, Paige acted as if nothing had happened, as if she really just went out to see a guest off.

But having just learned the whole story from Austin, she was now very unreserved in expressing her disdain for Julian.

"Julian, you’re not young anymore, can you be a bit more mature? Don’t lose your bearings just because someone provokes you, you actually went racing with young people? How childish are you?"

The key point is that he even ended up in such a sorry state, Paige was frustrated at his failure to live up to expectations.

Julian, "I was wrong."

Though his attitude in admitting his mistake was good, Julian knew in his heart that if it happened again, he would still do the same.

No man could endure such provocation and taunting from a rival, even someone as mature and reserved as Julian was no exception.
