Chapter 173: Chapter 173
"Paige, I was just joking with you earlier, I’m apologizing now."
Paige tugged at her lips, "I was just joking with you too. Running out naked isn’t considered scandalous? We might all get questioned by the police."
"Alright, let’s clear up the misunderstandings."
Skylar smiled at Paige, "Paige, can we talk privately?"
She wore a smile, gentle and polite, as if the rumors about her being a deeply scheming and vicious woman were mere misconceptions by everyone.
Paige glanced at her without speaking.
Skylar continued, "Paige, everyone has some misunderstandings about our relationship. I want to take this opportunity to let everyone know, and also let you know, that I’ve never intended to target you. However, those things were indeed done by my friends, so I apologize on their behalf and hope to earn your forgiveness, so we can go back to being good sisters like before, okay?"
In front of so many people, Paige can’t outright embarrass her, right?
Skylar reached for Paige’s hand.
Paige dodged it, looking at her as if watching a spectacle.
That gaze made Skylar very uncomfortable, as if she was just a joke in Paige’s eyes.
Skylar could only slightly lower her head, looking somewhat disappointed.
"Paige, I really want us to go back to how we used to be. We obviously used to have a good relationship, so why did it become distant as we grew up? If there hadn’t been issues between us, such misunderstandings wouldn’t have happened, I think..."
"Whatever you think is your business, don’t tell me, I find you annoying."
Skylar’s face froze, and the atmosphere in the room became somewhat awkward.
Mona angrily looked at Paige.
"Paige, Skylar has already lowered herself so much, you should be forgiving. Don’t go too far!"
Paige looked at Mona, "Are you in charge of my affairs? Is shit not tasty or running naked not fun, making you interfere again?"
Mona’s expression froze, "Paige, you..."
In this circle, no matter how much people dislike each other privately, they always have to appear harmonious in front of others.
But Paige is really an oddball, she never spares anyone’s dignity even in public.
Mona used to dislike Paige because of Skylar, but now she genuinely finds her bothersome.
"Paige, isn’t it because Skylar’s mom married your dad and Skylar is excellent that you target and sabotage her everywhere? Her mom married your dad because your dad wanted to marry her, what’s it got to do with Skylar? Isn’t Skylar innocent? What’s the point of you targeting her?"
"Besides, Skylar has contributed so much to VastReach, and when you were in the entertainment industry, she helped you be filial to your father. Yet when you came back, you treated her this way, kicked her out, and embarrassed her in front of everyone. Is that how one should behave?"
Paige frowned as she looked at Mona.
"I don’t know what she told you, but as a smart person, you should know not to stick your nose where it doesn’t belong, especially in matters you don’t understand. Be careful not to get caught talking nonsense."
Clearly, this advice didn’t sink in for Mona.
"The heavens are so unfair, some people have nothing to show for themselves but a powerful father and yet swagger around; whereas someone as exceptional as Skylar can only be bullied by such pretentious people..."
Paige suddenly stood up, opened the door, then turned back to look at Skylar.
"Weren’t we going to talk? Let’s do it."
Skylar stood up and walked out with Paige.
The people in the room exchanged glances without saying a word.
The host whispered, "Did Mona and Skylar come for this?"
"I don’t know who they came with. This situation is awkward as hell, and who knows if it will offend Paige."
Paige reached the restroom and washed her hands at the sink.
Skylar stood beside her, her earlier gentle demeanor gone, watching Paige through the mirror.
Paige owned everything people envied—beauty, status, money...
Heaven favored her so much it made people jealous, wishing she would vanish.
Skylar said, "Paige, I have to admit, you’re really skilled."
Paige tugged her lips slightly, her smile was faint.
Skylar didn’t truly want to talk to her, and Paige had no mood to listen to Skylar.
"To lower my guard against you, you pretended to be uneducated, secretly burning the midnight oil just to stand out today. Must have been exhausting, huh?"
Listening to this, one might think it’s royal competition for the throne.
Even if it were, Skylar wouldn’t be qualified to compete with her. Where does she get the nerve to say such things?
Seeing Paige silent, the feeling of being dismissed returned to Skylar’s body.
She tightened her fists.
"There’s still plenty of time, Paige, aren’t we going to find out who can laugh last? What do you think?"
Paige washed her hands, dried them with a tissue, and left.
But Paige didn’t immediately return to the room; in the end, Skylar returned before her.
When Skylar came back, her eyes were red.
Originally, the two went out together, but only Skylar returned, with tears in her eyes, looking aggrieved, which seemed to suggest Paige bullied her.
Mona immediately asked, "Skylar, what’s wrong?"
Skylar wiped away a tear rolling down her eye.
"It’s nothing, something got in my eye, it has nothing to do with Paige."
It’d be better if she hadn’t said that, but saying it only clearly indicated to everyone she cried because of Paige.
Mona said, "You claim there’s nothing wrong, yet why are you crying? She must have bullied you, right? How can she be so horrible!"
With that, Mona stood up.
Paige was outside, texting the host that she planned to leave early.
Mona immediately spotted her upon stepping out.
Paige glanced at her, "What? You have something else?"
Mona said angrily, "You’re asking me what? Didn’t you see Skylar crying?"
Paige’s face remained indifferent.
"What’s it to do with me?"
Mona looked incredulous, "But you’re sisters, and it’s because you bullied her that she’s upset, that’s why she’s crying. Can you really ignore it? How unlucky it is for Skylar to have a sister like you!"
Paige laughed, her usual serious face transforming into something captivating when she smiled.
"She’s actually quite lucky, because I’m not her sister."
Paige added, "Just to clarify, I’m an only child, don’t let just anyone claim me as a sister, I don’t want to be that unlucky either."
With that, Paige walked to Skylar, "Did I bully you?"
Skylar immediately looked afraid, as if she was terrified of Paige, and said, "No, Paige, you didn’t bully me, Mona misunderstood, I’ve already explained, really..."
Yet Paige slapped her right away.
The others were a bit dumbfounded too. Thᴇ link to the origɪn of this information rᴇsts ɪn 𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭•𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘦•𝘯𝘦𝘵
Skylar held her cheek, thinking, hit me, go on, let everyone see what kind of person Paige really is.
Mona rushed over to protect Skylar.
"Paige! Why are you hitting people?"
Paige, "Isn’t it bullying? This is what bullying looks like."
