Chapter 140: Chapter 140

The next day, Paige Sterling went to the office and saw Miles Morgan on his usual inspection rounds.

Paige hadn’t been to the office in the past few days, as she was busy at Islet Labs. Upon seeing her, Miles eagerly approached with excitement.

"Paige, Paige! The product you showcased on the Chambers Group rooftop last time, why hasn’t it been launched yet? There’s a lot of people online wanting to buy it now."

Paige: "That type of thing isn’t sold to non-professionals."

"Why aren’t we selling it? How much are we losing from this?"

Paige said calmly, "If someone buys it to do harm, wouldn’t our company be held responsible? If unknowledgeable people buy it and something goes wrong, wouldn’t we have to compensate?"

Miles thought for a moment, "You’re really thorough, Paige."

Paige gathered a few documents in the office, skimming through them quickly, then tossed them to her assistant to handle, and proceeded to take several video calls from abroad.

The foreigners on the calls were from different countries, and Miles was wide-eyed watching Paige switch fluidly between languages.

Once Paige finished her calls, he asked, "Paige, Wikipedia doesn’t mention you speaking so many languages."

Paige: "I’ve just learned them recently."

Her tone was nonchalant, as if she had merely accomplished something ordinary.

Yet mastering so many languages in a short period is incredibly challenging.

People usually struggle to learn just one foreign language in their lifetime.

It’s clear Paige is extraordinary, destined to achieve great things.

Miles felt a bit regretful; had Paige not been sidetracked by the entertainment industry for those years, she might have reached great heights on her own already.

Once Paige was mostly done, Miles immediately said, "Paige, it’s getting late, look how busy you are all the time, you should go out and relax!"

Paige didn’t even lift her head, writing and drawing on paper, adjusting some data, "Not going."

Miles asked, "Why not go? Paige, are you afraid Mr. Hawthorne will check on you?"

Paige’s fingers paused for a moment, then she looked up at Miles.

Being stared at like that by her made Miles’ scalp prickle.

"Paige, why are you looking at me like that?"

Paige asked, "In your eyes, what is my relationship with Julian Hawthorne like?"

This was a tough question, Miles didn’t know how to answer.

After a while Miles said, "Everyone knows you two are a match made in heaven."

Paige asked, "Do you find me scarier or Julian Hawthorne?"

What a silly question, of course both are scary!

But in front of Paige, Miles had a strong survival instinct, so he wouldn’t say that.

"Neither of you are scary, you’re both so friendly, how could you be scary?"

And then proceeded to flatter them uncontrollably.

Paige listened, her face filled with irritation, "I’m just asking you, do I seem like a couple with him?"

Miles didn’t understand why Paige would ask such questions.

Julian Hawthorne acted like he was constantly affirming his role as the significant other, worried people might not know he was with Paige Sterling, whenever they were together, it was obvious they were a couple.

"Then do you think, at home, who’s in charge between Julian Hawthorne and me?"

This is your domestic issue, how would we know?

Paige asking these questions was really puzzling to him.

Miles scratched his head pondering, "I think it’s definitely you, Paige, you’re the one in charge."

Paige: "Then what makes you think I’m afraid of Julian Hawthorne checking on me?"

Paige tossed aside the documents and snorted coldly, "Let’s go, time to have fun."

Paige and Miles left the office, and Miles took Paige directly to a nearby club, just a few minutes’ walk away. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ 𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹✶𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲✶𝗻𝗲𝘁

Unexpectedly, on their way, they ran into Helen Hale.

Helen’s health had improved a lot, but she now walked with a limp, unwilling to expose her weaknesses in front of others, she preferred to remain in a wheelchair.

There were two bodyguards behind her, appearing very cautious.

Since Helen Hale was injured by Paige, her temper had worsened, and several batches of bodyguards had been replaced.

saw Helen Hale sitting in the wheelchair and curiously asked, "Isn’t that Helen Hale? Why’s she in a wheelchair?"

The battle between Paige and Helen Hale in the suburbs hadn’t been disclosed yet, so outsiders naturally didn’t know that Helen Hale was damaged by Paige; if word had gotten out, even Wendy Wallace wouldn’t dare to create such a scene.

Helen Hale also saw Paige.

Her bones instinctively shivered, a reflex upon seeing Paige — a manifestation of fear.

The way Paige beat her that day really frightened her.

Yet no matter how fearful, she would not forget it was Paige who put her in this state, nor would she allow herself to falter in front of Paige.

She directed the bodyguards to push her toward Paige.

Looking at Paige now, she clenched her fists, her nails digging deeply into her flesh, suppressing the urge to tear Paige apart.

"Miss Sterling, thanks to you I’m now in a wheelchair, are you proud of yourself?"

Paige’s expression was indifferent, telling Miles, "I need to chat with Miss Hale, you wait for me over there."

Miles, "What can’t I hear, Paige?"

Paige: "Just some little secrets between girls, why should a man listen?"

So Paige still considers herself a girl?

Miles obediently went to wait on the side as Paige instructed.

Helen Hale’s bodyguards all appeared as if facing a great enemy, wary of Paige harming Helen.

Paige exaggerated a smile at them, "Broad daylight, I won’t do anything, you don’t need to worry."

The bodyguards, "...", but we’ve heard you’ve done quite a few things in broad daylight too.

"Moreover...", Paige glanced at Helen Hale, "As long as others don’t provoke me, I’m quite amiable and generally won’t make the first move."

Helen coldly eyed Paige’s flawless complexion, wishing she could harshly mar it.

Paige was quite pleased with Helen’s anger-stricken yet restrained gaze.

"Your current state is indeed my doing, but everyone has to pay for their actions, no one is born to stand and be beaten. You should have expected the consequences of failure when doing those things, so Helen Hale, learn your lesson; being kind to others will benefit you more than confronting them."

Helen gritted her teeth, forcing words through clenched teeth.

"Paige, I won’t let you get away with this!"

"Well, you’re welcome to seek death."

Paige slightly bent down, lifting Helen’s chin.

Helen struggled, but couldn’t shake off Paige’s hand.

Paige said, "I just adore the look of those who want to destroy me but can’t, it truly delights me."

Helen’s eyes nearly spewed fire.

The bodyguards remained vigilant, preparing to attack Paige at any moment.

However, Paige released Helen unexpectedly and walked away.

From afar, Miles couldn’t hear what they said, but thought Paige’s action of lifting Helen’s chin seemed extremely flirtatious.

Paige’s assertiveness — it’s a pity she’s not a man.

Paige reached Miles, "Let’s go party."

Miles glanced towards Helen Hale’s direction.

At this moment, Helen was still fixated on Paige’s departing figure.

What to say? Miles felt those eyes resembled the venomous glare of a cobra he’d seen on TV, as if filled with poison.

What sort of deep-seated grudges are these?
