Chapter 111: Chapter 111
Paige Sterling’s reputation took another hit.
Many of Paige Sterling’s supporters were waiting for her to come out and deny the rumors, but she remained silent throughout.
Julian Hawthorne also learned about it online; he imagined Paige Sterling as a victim of online rumors, feeling sorry for her and was looking everywhere for her.
When he finally found her, Paige was in the lab, her expression unchanged as always.
Julian’s worried face startled her.
"Have you seen the news online?"
"Why didn’t you tell me?"
Paige Sterling replied, "It’s really not that big of a deal."
She asked Julian, "Or is it that you, Mr. Hawthorne, don’t trust me?"
"I have never not trusted you; you wouldn’t even regard someone unworthy as your rival."
Paige was quite proud because she had the capability to be proud.
Because of that pride, she couldn’t even be bothered to lift a finger against Helen Hale.
If Helen knew Paige didn’t even consider her a threat, she’d probably be furious.
Paige smiled, "Mr. Hawthorne, what I’m saying is, do you not trust in my resilience?"
Julian removed her gloves, holding her hand in his palm.
But when you love someone too much, you subconsciously forget how strong they are; you just want to be there for them, shielding them from every storm when they feel aggrieved.
"Do you need me to handle the things online?", he asked Paige.
Paige shook her head, "I never took Helen Hale seriously, but I didn’t expect she could go this far."
Self-harming, hiring internet trolls to control the narrative.
If she doesn’t show Helen Hale a bit of her power, will Helen then think she controls the world?
Paige went live as usual in the evening, unaffected by the online rumors.
However, as soon as she appeared, the live room was flooded with a barrage of insults.
"Almost paralyzed a young lady, how do you still have the nerve to go live."
"Poor young lady, beautiful, with a good background, well-educated and kind, doesn’t hold it against you at all, yet you show no apology or remorse."
Paige saw how vigorously they were cursing and smiled, "I originally planned to teach everyone how to make this simple version of a robot today, but since no one is in the mood, let’s end here."
Without saying another word, she just cut the broadcast.
The fans in the live room awaiting this robot for weeks were like, "...!!!"
Three days later, without any word from Paige, Dad Hale came to the Hawthorne Group to find her.
Since he turned up, it wouldn’t do to avoid him, so Paige met Dad Hale in her office.
She politely asked, "What can I do for you, President Hale?"
Dad Hale’s face was full of anger, his eyes wanting to kill as he looked at Paige.
"How dare you ask me? I want to ask you, what on earth did my daughter do to provoke you, for you to be so harsh on her?!"
Taking over Apex’s market was one thing, but then to harm his daughter —did Paige really think a few tycoons backing her meant she could ignore Apex?
Paige had the assistant make tea, and the assistant didn’t dare leave, afraid Dad Hale might harm Paige.
Paige gave the assistant a glance, and the assistant then stepped out.
Paige said to Dad Hale, "President Hale, don’t be angry, if it’s my fault I’m willing to take full responsibility."
"All right, since you want to take responsibility, then apologize to my daughter now! And I want to personally see you break your own hand as an apology to her!"
"President Hale, have you misunderstood me? I said, if it’s my fault, I’m willing to take responsibility, but have you asked your daughter what actually happened?"
Dad Hale’s face turned grim again, "Are you trying to deny what you did to my daughter? Even if there was no surveillance, so many people saw you push her, do you think you can just deny it?"
Even he had to admire Paige’s composure despite the online chaos.
Is this giving in to desperation?
"What everyone saw isn’t necessarily the truth. I don’t think anyone would dare say they saw how I pushed Miss Hale, so President Hale, I hope you can be rational and ask your daughter clearly how she fell; coming to cause trouble for me doesn’t help."
"Fine, fine, since you dare to shirk responsibility because there’s no surveillance, I won’t be polite to you. If you refuse to settle privately, then see you in court!"
Now he’s the victim’s father, suing Paige is justified, and with Penson having such a leader, he believes it will decline, perhaps even giving him the chance to buy it out and let Apex reach new heights.
But at this moment, Helen Hale actually came in.
She was pushed in on a wheelchair, with bandages on her face, looking truly pitiful.
Paige just said, "Looks like your face is really scarred."
Hearing Paige’s nonchalant tone, Helen gritted her teeth.
"I thought Miss Sterling would feel a bit guilty about hurting me, but it turns out you’re still unrepentant."
Paige chuckled, "No one else knows the truth, but don’t you, Miss Hale? I’m a bit disappointed you didn’t fall to your death—how do you expect me to feel guilty?"
This angered Dad Hale to the point of wanting to hit someone, "You are truly arrogant and malicious!"
Then Helen, spotting Julian seemingly at the door, immediately persuaded her dad.
"Dad, don’t be , I haven’t spoken for Miss Sterling all these days in the hospital, and she endured a lot of cyberbullying too. I’m sure she regrets it by now. Anyway, I’m fine now, let’s just drop it; I really don’t want to pursue it further."
She wanted Julian to see her magnanimity, while Paige was selfish and malicious.
Dad Hale pointed at Paige, "Look, my daughter doesn’t want to hold it against you, yet you have the gall to speak ill of her?"
Then he spoke sorrowfully to Helen, "She’s just been cursed at, but look at all the suffering you’ve endured, your face hurt. I have coddled you all your life, and she dares to harm you , I’ll never let her off!"
Helen looked touched, yet still spoke for Paige.
She was too eager to show her magnanimity in front of Julian, completely ignoring how abnormal her behavior was—it would make any rational person suspicious.
Paige couldn’t help but applaud Helen.
"Miss Hale, you really are an excellent director and actress; even your father believes you. Looks like clearing my name will be hard."
Helen looked innocent, "Paige, isn’t it a fact you pushed me? Are you going to say I fell myself and framed you? My face is scarred, what girl doesn’t cherish her looks? We have no deep grudge, why would I go to such lengths to frame you? I’m not even going to hold it against you, what does that matter if you admit it?"
Helen started to cry as she spoke.
Paige replied coldly, "You just didn’t expect to ruin your face, so some wrongs shouldn’t be committed, or beware of karma." Thıs content belongs to 𝖓𝖔𝖛𝖊𝖑~𝖋𝖎𝖗𝖾~𝖓𝖊𝖙
Julian Hawthorne walked in at this moment, standing next to Paige.
Helen looked at him hopefully, "Julian..."
She thought that with her condition, Julian would despise Paige, would care for her.
But Julian did not; he only looked at her father calmly.
