Chapter 103: Chapter 103

Sonny Chambers also realized he had asked for too high a price, but words, once spoken, are like water thrown out and cannot be taken back. He was determined not to back down.

A million per box was way too expensive for Simon Hawthorne, as it meant he not only wouldn’t earn a markup but would also lose money.

He haggled fiercely with Sonny Chambers, and finally, Sonny agreed to sell it to Simon for five hundred thousand per box, fearing Paige Sterling would come back and see them.

In the end, Simon gritted his teeth and bought it to report back to the old man.

The few million he had just gotten his hands on were spent before they even warmed up, and he was so heartbroken he almost cried.

On his way back with the ointment, Simon finally wondered, where did a little kid like Sonny get this ointment?

Couldn’t it be Paige Sterling again?

It seemed unlikely; how could someone involved in technology like Paige also be dealing with hair growth ointment?

It was likely Paige bought it from somewhere, considering she might be somewhat worried about going bald at a young age.

Simon planned to ask Paige directly some other day, but thinking about Paige’s money-grubbing ways, he figured she’d be even worse than Sonny and gave up the idea.

After Simon left, Sonny threatened the robot, forbidding it to tell Paige about their deal.

The robot remained silent with a cold demeanor.

Some kids just don’t think deeply; what about this family does Paige not know?

Sonny thought he had done it flawlessly and scared the robot into submission.

But when Paige came home, he realized he was wrong.

Paige directly grabbed him and made him stand against the wall, facing it for some reflection.

"Spill it, what did you do today?"

Sonny stubbornly refused to admit anything, to which Paige replied, "Then just keep standing there, and when you know, you can go to bed."

In this house with two big devils, there’s only one kind-hearted and innocent little pitiable soul, and he can’t survive!

The scary part was that he had finally seen his parents not long ago.

He originally thought his parents would notice he had lost weight and was ready to tell them about the inhumane torment he had suffered.

But his parents just quizzed him, saying he was now more mature and steady, even faster at math and writing more words than before.

They thought Paige Sterling had taught him well.

Without giving him a chance to speak, they left again.

His heart went cold as he realized he had been completely abandoned by his parents and had to earn a living under The Great Demon Sterling and The Hawthorne Devil.

Sonny wanted to cry, his life was too hard!

"Sonny, do you think as long as you sneak around, I won’t know what you’ve been up to? Have you heard of the tale of covering one’s ears while stealing a bell?"

Paige told the robot to narrate the tale to Sonny.

Paige said, "Hand over the bank card."

Sonny sniffed, "This is money I earned, why should I give it to you? You adults are so unreasonable!"

"Is it really your money? Did you make this product?"

Sonny faltered, "But I helped you sell it."

Paige gave a cool look, "So should I thank you then?"

Sonny, "... No, you just need to give me some pocket money."

His mom used to be sympathetic and gave him lots of pocket money; with it, he maintained his reign as the top playground boss in kindergarten.

No pocket money has left him without any followers.

Having finished with Sonny, Paige went back to the bedroom and saw a tall figure standing outside on the balcony, holding a phone to his ear with one hand and a cigarette in the other.

Seeing Paige come in, he immediately threw the cigarette butt on the ground and stomped it out.

Paige, "...", such an act of covering one’s ears while stealing a bell, just like Sonny.

After Julian finished his phone call and came back, she said, "I don’t even oppose you smoking; why are you so nervous?"

Once she finished speaking, Julian just stared straight at her. Fresh chapters posted on novel•fire.net

"...?" Paige asked, "Are you complaining I didn’t light your cigarette?"

Julian’s unfathomable eyes locked onto Paige’s gaze, then he tossed his pack of cigarettes to her, "What do these words say?"

Paige replied, "Smoking is harmful to health."

Julian asked, "Do you understand what they mean?"

Paige nodded, "I understand, which is why I never smoke and I don’t let my dad smoke either."

Julian chuckled, "So you really want to be my widow, huh?"

Her brain was a bit slow, it took her a moment to figure it out.

She couldn’t help but twitch her lips, revealing a toothy smile.

"Mr. Hawthorne, let’s quit smoking from now on, okay? There’s a child at home; secondhand smoke isn’t good for the kid."

Paige added, "It’s not good for your health either."

Julian’s expression softened slightly, and Paige leaned in and gave his eyelashes a gentle kiss.

Julian’s eyes and brows were filled with joy, "Do you like me that much?"

Julian, "You can’t even leave one of my lashes alone?"

The next day at noon, Paige and Julian were having lunch outside, and unexpectedly, Helen Hale showed up right after they ordered.

She completely ignored Paige’s existence, "Julian, you’re having lunch here too."

Julian maintained a stoic face, "Miss Hale, please do not disturb our meal."

Helen gave Julian a coquettish glance, "Julian, why are you being so formal with me, it’s not like today’s the first time we met. Just the other day, I even visited Grandpa."

She wanted to make sure Paige knew that she was a woman who could enter The Hawthorne Family anytime.

While Paige wasn’t even qualified to step through The Hawthorne Family’s door.

"Am I really that familiar with Miss Hale?"

Helen’s face stiffened; Julian was stabbing her in the heart, and right in front of Paige too.

She took a deep breath, "Julian, I know you’re mad about me breaking company rules, and that was my mistake. I apologize to you; will you forgive me?"

She said, "I’m sorry, from now on I promise to be punctual. Please forgive me; don’t be angry over this and ignore me."

She acted as if Paige didn’t exist, and Paige ignored her likewise, simply requesting a glass of cold water from the waiter.

Julian intervened, "Get some hot water."

Paige looked at him, and Julian said, "Your hands are cold, hot water will be better."

When talking to Paige, all of Julian’s icy edges seemed to vanish instantly, revealing a warmer version of him.

Helen felt like an outsider who couldn’t fit in and raised her voice to make her presence known.

Julian frowned, "Why are you still here?"

Helen’s face flushed with anger; did Julian see her as just a decoration?

Julian frowned, "You’re interrupting our meal; do I need to call security to have you removed?"

Paige told him, "Julian, don’t be so rude to a girl."

Julian looked at Paige, and Helen noticed his gaze turned gentle again.

Helen took a deep breath, finally letting her gaze fall on Paige.

"Miss Sterling, you don’t mind if I sit down and join you for lunch, do you?"

Helen assumed Paige would pretend to be magnanimous and let her sit down, so she was already prepared to do so.

But Paige said, "No."

Helen’s face stiffened again, then she laughed instead.

"Looks like Miss Sterling is scared."

Indeed, faced with her outstanding family background, education, and beauty, any woman would feel inferior.

Paige’s mouth twitched, when she suddenly received a phone call.

After hanging up, Paige quickly got up and leaned over to plant a kiss on Julian’s lips.

"Mr. Hawthorne, there’s something at the lab, I have to leave."

She left as she spoke, but Julian caught her, "Eat first before you go."

Paige, "No, I can’t..."

Julian’s tone was firm, "Eat."

He wouldn’t allow her to go to work on an empty stomach.

Paige had no choice but to sit back down and start shoveling in food, while Helen awkwardly stood off to the side, finding it embarrassing and eventually leaving on her own.
