Chapter-5 Tsunami
Everyone is worrying if a disaster may come to the community. The disaster may come unexpectedly. Therefore, we could not prepare ourselves for that. To that, some people are dying while the others are not, but they would still sacrifice their lives; they would build it again. To know the event of this chpter, I am requesting you; to read the entire text below.
The day is not so hot afterwards, the rain has come. To that, the fishermen are lonely; they could not prepare their nets, to get fish on the sea. They have waited until the rain may stop. However, it does not cease. After a few minutes, there are changes in the sky which have signalled that the tsunami may occur. The people are praying; the tsunami won’t happen. However, the sea has started to move its big waves and it has over flow and entered the land. Therefore, the people have run yet, some of them couldn’t breath well especially if the water has pushed to their nose.
On the other hand, some people who have lived far from the sea; they were not able to go out because the water entered their house( their house beside the sea.). Even though they are far from the sea yet, they could still be affected by the tsunami. They have planned to transfer to other areas but they cannot escape from there. The children and other individuals have lost their lives especially to the people who have a small house, while to the high house; they could still survive but they cannot go down due to the water which has entered to the bottom floor.
This disaster will take three days after it is gone. This time, some people are dying except for the individuals who have a tall building. Mr. Randy and Steven have survived because they do have a high house, though the bottom of this house is full of water. They are praying that the tsunami will not come back again. This affects the economy and social relationship to the people.
Steven tells his father that, daddy! We will make another house not beside the sea; we would not be affected. You know, I think that my life would be ruined by this disaster. But I am not on the top of the world today because some people are dying; they did not enjoy their lives, they belong to poor families. And Mr. Randy replies, definitely I am also pithy on them. But we don’t have the power to save them. So, we must be fortunate that we are not one of them. As of today, I am going to sell this house. I know no one would like this, but I will just try; we could use it to build our business in England. And he replies, daddy we need to think before we will sell this house. Soon, we don’t know if we will be successful in England. I am not discouraging you but I am just predicting it thinking about the possibility of the outcomes.
As everything has happened, Mr. Randy and Steven are on cloud nine. They have prepared themselves to clean in each of their houses. But before that, they have taken their nap. After a few minutes, Mr. Randy has woken up due to the waves which he has heard on the sea. He does not disturb his son; he could not wake up. Mr. Randy takes his nap again. He does close his eyes but he can still hear the sound of the waves. And then, he hears the sound of the woman who is shouting. He has ignored it.
On the other hand, Menchie and Catherine have worried about their situations. They want to visit them but their family won’t allow them, Alfred visits the house of Catherine yet, she is not there. He has planned to go home yet, he remembers that he would go to the house of Che; to get his wallet and bag which he had left when he visited her last month. As he arrives, he has seen that Catherine is there, they are still talking about the situation of Steven. They have decide to go there but the community leaders have banned the individuals to visit there since there are still dead that they did not bury the dead yet,
Mr. Randy has woken up; to find someone who is shouting and crying inside the house. As he goes down, he has observed that there is a woman inside the giant tub. He feels frightened of what he has heard. He noticed that there was a shark inside the tub. Therefore, he has never continued to go there. But he has approached his son upstairs. He does want to disturb him, but he must let him know about the sharks who are swimming in the tub. There, he tells him, my son, there is a shark inside the tub.
And he replies, is it true? I don’t believe that daddy, it’s impossible that there is a shark that would enter their house.
Mr. Randy tells him that, yes definitely but we need to go there , to see if it is a shark or not. As they have arrived downstairs, they have seen that there is a siren still swimming to the tub; to the remaining water. And Mr. Randy tells him that I was mistaken earlier. I had thought it was a shark but not. Steven replies, it’s okay daddy, can we put the siren inside our room? I feel pity for her. And he replies no, I don’t want to.
At this time, Mr. Randy has called the leader in the community; to get her. Mr. Norman, the leaders in the community, have told him that he would bring her to the sea instead of killing her. And then, the other leader told him that we would not bring her on the sea because she is the daughter of Mrs Tenyang, she is Leah. As a leader, I want everybody to stay here rather than to leave this place. And Mr. Randy tells them that, it’s up to you . I would just follow your decision, what I want is to get this siren to my house. And Mr. Norman tells him that, okay I will bring her to the sea since the water is connected to our community. However, Steven refuses because he wants to bring that siren to his room.
No, daddy
I want to be happy with her.
And Mr. Norman replies, no she cannot survive in your room; she needs water. Otherwise she will die.
And he replies, no I would bring her to my room. I know she would be happy with me. At this time, the community leaders are not giving any response to what they have heard from Steven. Therefore, they have respected his decision. To his decision, it would still help him to be happy rather than to be sad.
After they have gone, Mr. Randy tells him that, I would respect your decision but what I could say; she could not survive in the room. Therefore, he has brought the siren to his room. When Steven has gone to the kitchen the siren could not properly breath because the water which remains there has gone.
Steven has made a good in the kitchen for his daddy and the siren. He does not finish it directly ; he is not an expert at cooking. His daddy has come to help him, but he does not allow his father to help him. He has started to inspire his life even if he is disappointed by the disaster which happens to their community. While he is cooking, he has heard the siren who is shouting and crying upstairs. He had ignored it because he wanted to focus on cooking the food. At this time, the rain has come. Thus, he thinks that another disaster may come after the rain. Thus, he has finished cooking that food. He believes that his food is yummy.
At this time, Mr. Randy is waiting on him. He has heard the voice of the siren. He does not give any attention; he does not like her presence. At this moment, he has looked at the sea; to reflect about the disaster that they have encountered in the community. He has wished to have a better outcome of his business; he can help to the people who have needed her presence. He plans to solicit money from his co-business partner so that he could help the community.
