Chapter 6: Chapter 6
"Hunter, hunter, huh—a profession that can do anything."
At night, back in her dorm, Mo Ying was still recalling what Teacher Zhi Ying had lectured about in class today.
Hunters, a special profession in this world, would do anything as long as the payment was enough.
"So basically, as long as you have money, you can entrust a hunter to take care of anything?"
Mo Ying hung her clothes out to dry on the balcony.
"It should be like that. According to Teacher Zhi Ying, as long as you have money, hunters can solve everything for you."
Xiya was also washing her own clothes.
Their dorm was on the first floor, and since it was just the two of them, everything felt quite convenient.
"I think I get it a bit now,"
Mo Ying seemed to understand why the country allowed hunters to exist.
Probably, the one who commissioned hunters the most was the country itself.
After all, there were probably too many things the country needed to get done.
"Ah, teacher Liushu!"
Through the window, Mo Ying saw Liushu patrolling, and she greeted him, waving her hand.
Liushu, who was on night shift, walked over with his flashlight in hand.
"Are you patrolling tonight, teacher Liushu?"
Xiya asked as she saw Liushu coming over.
"Yeah, night shifts are pretty boring, honestly."
Liushu had a cigarette hanging from his mouth, a flashlight in his left hand, and his right hand tucked in his pocket.
Mo Ying eagerly squeezed closer, shoving Xiya aside.
She was always so cheerful and lively.
"What is the hunting ground? What exactly is a hunter?"
Mo Ying finally asked the question she'd always wanted to.
"The hunting ground is... uh... I think that isn't part of the first-year curriculum. You'll have to wait until you're in your second year."
Liushu hesitated for a moment and didn't give an answer.
"Why do we have to wait until second year to know about the hunting ground and hunters?"
"Because that's the school rule. First-year students generally aren't strong enough, it's not suitable for you to be exposed to the hunting ground yet."
Liushu took the cigarette from his mouth with his right hand and blew out a cloud of smoke.
"At Dreamscape Academy, every grade lasts three years, and there are five grades in total. That means you'll be at the academy for about fifteen years. The first year, or rather, the first three years, are basically for teaching you regular combat knowledge. When you get to second year, that's when you start learning about the hunting ground. Not telling first-years is because you all have no knowledge of it yet, and it'd be dangerous if you went in unprepared."
"No need to rush, it's just one more year until you move up. I'll teach you about the hunting ground then. I think you'll have to switch to a new campus in second year, moving over to the north wing."
"Will you come with us, too, teacher Liushu?"
"I think so. I hope the food at the north campus is better."
Liushu shook the flashlight that was nearly out of battery.
"So this campus is all first-years, and we can't get access to the hunting ground?"
Xiya raised another question.
"That's right. But you and Mo Ying, both of your abilities are already at second-year level; Mo Ying, you'd even be top-tier among second-years. It's just that you don't know anything about the hunting ground, so you have to wait until you've learned about it in second year before you can enter."
This teacher always seemed listless when working.
"Can't you just tell us in advance?"
"No can do. If I tell you, my pay will get docked. I only make so much a month, please have mercy on me, ancestor."
Liushu tossed the cigarette butt on the ground and stomped it out.
Then he took another cigarette out of the pack and lit it with his lighter.
Even the pattern on his lighter had worn down, so it seemed he'd been using it for quite a long time.
"If you keep smoking , you'll run out of cigarettes pretty quickly. Teacher, have you ever considered quitting?"
Xiya seemed a bit worried about Liushu's health.
How many cigarettes did he smoke a day?
"If I run out, I'll just have Akina buy more for me. Cigarettes are a part of my life; I'll never quit."
"Oh, right! Teacher Liushu, give me Miss Akina's contact info, send it to my phone!"
Mo Ying suddenly said.
"What do you want that for?"
Liushu asked, sounding wary.
"I want to ask a hunter for a favor too,"
"Alright, wait a moment."
Liushu took out his phone.
"Ugh, these high-tech gadgets really aren't for an old man like me."
After fumbling for a long time, Liushu finally sent Akina's contact to Mo Ying.
"By the way, Akina is a hunter. Even though she looks about your age, never underestimate her, and don't mess with her either. She's the cold and aloof type, sometimes even bites me—err, I mean, even beats me up."
Liushu seemed to recall some bad memories.
"It's fine, I know, I know. I'm just going to make a normal request of a hunter,"
Mo Ying replied with a smile.
But her smile always made Liushu feel uneasy.
"Anyway, I have to get back to work. I've spent way too much of my patrol time chatting with you."
Liushu turned and left.
"Good luck at work, teacher."
Mo Ying called after him.
"Let me think, what should I ask for..." Newest update provıded by novel~fire~net
Mo Ying muttered to herself after getting Akina's contact info.
"If hunters will do anything, anything... then I'll ask her to do my homework for me!"
Mo Ying came up with a brilliant idea.
"I'm joking, Xiya, don't look at me like that."
Xiya's chilling gaze made Mo Ying shudder.
"Then I'll ask her to bring me some specialty snacks from another city. I heard there's a really good dessert shop in neighboring Tianlin City!"
Mo Ying came up with another great idea.
At Dreamscape Academy, unless it was a holiday, students couldn't freely leave the school.
Though the cafeteria food was plentiful, eating the same thing every day got boring.
"I'll get in touch with Akina first thing tomorrow morning!"
"By the way, what rank is Akina as a hunter?"
Xiya thought of a question.
She'd heard that hunters charged different fees based on their rank.
"Eh, I forgot to ask, but I don't think it really matters,"
Mo Ying said, just thinking of it herself.
"If it's just shopping, it probably doesn't matter,"
After all, when she bought cigarettes for Teacher Liushu, it was just 200 Naye, though even 200 Naye for errands was a lot.
For students like Mo Ying and Xiya, their annual scholarship was only a few thousand Naye, but since accommodation and meals at school were free, they didn't really spend much on daily expenses, so they managed to save a little—not a lot, though.

It said Q&A, not that we'd learn anything...
I'm guessing Akina is at least Star-rank...
