Chapter 48: Chapter 48
Time Surges Like the Tide, Ever Returning.
At the very end of the Corridor of Time, there lay a place entirely pale and colorless.
In the center of this space stood a pallid stone coffin, surrounded by all sorts of peculiar weapons that had fallen to the ground.
At this moment, the coffin had already been opened, and beneath it, a black-haired girl was sitting on the steps.
She placed her hand on a rusted long blade, attempting to draw it.
She used all her strength, but it was to no avail.
"Your soul is still incomplete; you cannot lift these weapons," said the snake.
"I know. I just wanted to give it a try,"
Yin Hua let go of the blade.
It had been three days since Yin Hua had awakened. During these three days, they had been confined here, quietly enduring in this barren, lifeless, dead-silent space.
Suddenly, an unusual noise sounded at the door.
After so long without hearing any other sound, Yin Hua lifted her head.
"The time has come..." said the Serpent of Heaven.
The stone door was completely kicked apart.
Yin Hua hid behind the stone coffin, dodging the flying debris.
Beyond the door, a black-clad girl walked in.
"You sure have a spacious room here. If only my student dorm at Dreamscape Academy was as roomy as yours," the girl walked straight into the chamber, circled behind the stone coffin, and spotted Yin Hua crouching there.
"She's just as crazy as ever," the snake commented after seeing her.
"Just like me," replied Yin Hua.
"You should know, it's not yet time for a reunion. If she finds out what you've turned into, who knows what she might do," said the snake.
"So, it's you, right? Come with me—I'll take you out," the girl reached a hand toward Yin Hua.
Yin Hua asked, her tone filled with confusion, as if she truly had no idea who the other was.
"Yes, I'll take you out," the girl replied.
Yin Hua stretched out her hand, about to grasp the hand of the black-clad girl.
But at the last moment, she pushed the girl's hand aside and then darted past her.
"I have absolutely no idea who you are. There's no way you'd risk saving me for nothing. And how do you know I'm imprisoned here and can't get out?"
The white-clad girl ran out of the room.
"That... actually does make sense," the girl stood there for a moment, lost in thought.
Why had she come to save her? And why did she know that Yin Hua would be imprisoned here?
She couldn't even answer these questions herself.
The more she thought about it, the more suspicious she appeared.
"Anyway, I mean no harm, so stop running!"
The girl chased after.
The two of them dashed down the Corridor of Time in a game of tag.
Suddenly, Yin Hua halted. Her eyes darted nervously, and she found a room along the Corridor and darted in.
"What are you doing?"
The girl slipped in too.
Yin Hua motioned for silence.
The girl poked out her head.
She saw that, in the Corridor, someone holding a black scythe was slowly approaching.
"Who is that?" the girl asked.
"She's the one who imprisoned me here,"
"She certainly doesn't look like the good sort. How did you get entangled with her?"
"I don't know. I have no memories."
"Then, can you remember your old name?"
"How can you look so proud while being amnesiac?"
"Still better than you, you suspicious stranger."
"How am I suspicious?"
"How are you not suspicious?"
"Come to think of it, I really am pretty suspicious..."
"Do you have some kind of problem? If you're so bored, go find a jail to chill in."
"You! I hiked all the way here to save you, and that's your attitude?"
"I never asked you to save me."
"You sure talk tough for someone in your position."
Their bickering startled the Goddess of time in the Corridor.
"You're way too loud—now she's noticed us!"
"Like you weren't louder?!"
The Goddess of time strode slowly toward them, but the two were still arguing.
"What should we do now?"
Yin Hua took the lead and bolted.
The black-clad girl followed close behind.
Once the Goddess of time spotted them, she accelerated her pursuit.
"Can't we just stop and talk to her?"
"Do you see her carrying that massive Godslayer? Does she look like she wants to talk?"
"What's a Godslayer?!"
"I don't think we can outrun her!" the girl said.
"I don't need to outrun her—I just need to outrun you!"
"I can't believe you're dragging me into this! Be human, will you?" The source of thɪs content is novel•fire.net
The girl sprinted faster.
The Goddess of time was already alarmingly close. She raised the Godslayer and brought it down in a powerful swing.
The girl jumped, and the Goddess's Godslayer struck the floor of the Corridor, leaving a huge fissure.
"Honestly, her Godslayer's never hit anyone..." the snake remarked at this farce, unable to resist commenting.
Whether it had been Shuang Yun, Liushu, Yin Hua, or this girl—no one had ever been struck by that scythe.
Though the snake knew it was intentional, she still wanted to laugh.
"She really doesn't seem like she's trying to catch you alive!" the girl called as she caught up with Yin Hua.
"Before you got here, she definitely wasn't trying to kill me!"
Yin Hua pushed ahead of the black-clad girl.
"Is this really my fault?"
"How could it not be?"
"Can you slow down a bit?!"
The girl overtook Yin Hua.
"What are you in such a rush for?!"
Yin Hua overtook her back.
The Goddess of time swung the Godslayer once more, once again missing them.
"There's a cliff ahead!" the girl shouted.
"You turn around and stall her a second, I'll find a place to jump across!"
"You really don't say anything human, do you?"
"Once I get across, I'll pull you up from the other side."
"Why don't I believe you..."
"I'm being completely honest! If you keep hesitating, neither of us will get across if she catches us!"
"Fine, just this once, I'll trust you!"
The girl finally stopped running.
The Goddess of time struck at the girl.
The white-clad girl stood still, took a deep breath, and then leapt with all her might, managing barely to land on the other side.
"Hurry up!" the white-clad girl called.
"You... do have a little bit of conscience left!"
The black-clad girl, hotly pursued, leapt as well. Just as she was about to fall, the white-clad girl caught her and hauled her up.
The black-clad girl made a deliberately cocky waving gesture.
But before they had gotten far, the Goddess of time suddenly appeared ahead of them, moving even faster.
"Now she's mad, for sure she's angry now!"
"Why did you go and antagonize her?!"
"How was I supposed to know she could teleport? Isn't that cheating? FUCK!"
A fireball shot past from behind.
"She's using ranged attacks now—RUN!"
"Follow me, follow me!"
"What construction worker English is that?!"
"Wish the sun would just explode!"
"There's no sun here! But let it explode anyway!"
Both of them sprinted for the edge of the Corridor—just a bit more and they'd escape.
At the final moment, Yin Hua looked back at the Goddess of time behind her.
"All you need to do is prove your existence.
This time, your opponent is no longer fate, but time itself.
Fate is absolute, and so is time. No one can bend time.
Go now, and gather the pieces of your soul. Once again, embark on your journey.
I will be by your side," the Goddess of time said to Yin Hua in the very last second as she left the Corridor.
"Thank you... I'm going,"
Yin Hua nodded and stepped out of the Corridor of Time.
"Good morning, yggdonia!"
Yin Hua left the Corridor of Time.
At the same time, the Corridor began to split once again, transforming into more paths.
"Time surges like the tide,"
