Chapter 34: Chapter 34
The Fairy Queen, meiyas and Higher Fairy, Anlus
In the Fairy Homeland.
Mo Ying and the others were still wandering in the mist, completely lost, not knowing which way to go.
"It's completely useless now."
Xiya looked at the Return Prism in her hand as she spoke.
It seemed to be affected by the white mist—their Return Prisms could no longer be used.
"How did we get out last time?"
"The mist just dispersed by itself,"
"You've experienced it before?"
Shuang Yun tightened her hold on the others' hands.
"It was just yesterday. This white mist shrouded the entire city—I didn't expect even this place to be affected,"
Xiya answered Shuang Yun's question.
There seemed to be a sound from the distance.
A terrifying magic pressure swept over them, forcing all three to the ground, unable to move.
An enraged female voice thundered across the entire space.
"As one of the fairy queens, are you really going to betray this place for the sake of an outsider?"
Ahead, it seemed there were two fairies locked in combat. Strangely, Mo Ying and the others could understand the fairy language.
"Staying here would only make me rot to the core, just like you."
"Quick...step back..."
Mo Ying managed to say with difficulty.
If they went forward, they would be crushed by this magic pressure.
What kind of monsters were fighting up there?
The three of them retreated step by step, struggling all the while.
At last, they escaped from the range of the two beings.
"To contract with me costs a great price—I am a Fairy Queen."
"Ah, I understand. You're as dazzling as that damned sun in the sky, but while I hate the sun, I don't hate you."
"I don't have anything to offer in exchange, but whatever I do have is yours to take—you don't need my permission."
In the thick mist, it seemed they heard voices speaking to each other again.
But now the girls were only focused on escaping for their lives; they had no time to care about the content of that conversation.
After running for quite some time in the mist, they finally managed to see ahead.
The fog gradually dispersed...
Mo Ying found herself in an unknown place.
She had already become separated from the other two.
A card slowly floated down from the sky, landing in Mo Ying's hand.
Mo Ying flipped it over.
It was a black card, with the number: Eight.
Black Eight: Affliction Patient / Festering Malady.
Within the dense white mist, Shuang Yun had lost her way.
Gradually, the fog receded.
She found she was walking on a long corridor.
This was the Corridor of Time.
The deity representing time strode with the steps of death, appearing behind her.
Time forgave no one; anyone who trespassed into the Corridor of Time would be erased by the Goddess of Time.
Just as Wei had said—after Shuang Yun had come into contact with that forbidden tome on time, her own existence had become unstable.
Now, she had once more been sent to the Corridor of Time.
There was no time to think. Shuang Yun ran down the pallid corridor.
Strangely, the Goddess of Time did not pursue her.
About two minutes passed before Shuang Yun returned to the Fairy Homeland. Newest update provıded by Nov3lFɪre.ɴet
She opened her mouth and took in deep breaths.
How many more times would she have to endure something ?
Within this white mist, Xiya saw the past.
She was not recalling memories—the past literally appeared to her in the mist.
She saw herself as a child, back when she was attending an academy.
She had a very close friend.
That friend would always call her name gently.
The white mist obscured her friend's face—perhaps Xiya had already forgotten what her friend looked like, which was why her face did not appear in the fog.
Her friend had changed greatly.
"There are only two ways to end a war: either one side surrenders, or everyone on one side dies."
She was no longer gentle, her back growing further and further away—Xiya could no longer catch up.
Every meeting, their conversations grew shorter; she no longer wished to communicate.
At some point, an insurmountable rift had formed between them—they seemed like people from entirely different worlds, never to cross paths again.
Finally, one night, she left for good.
Xiya had tried everything to make her stay, but in the end, she had accomplished nothing.
Someone told her that her friend had gone to another world.
Now, chasing after her friend's footsteps, Xiya had come to Yggdonia.
She had forgotten her friend's name, forgotten her face.
But she would find her, no matter what.
That was Xiya's obsession.
She watched her childhood self walk away into the distance, the fog slowly fading.
This white mist—could let people see the past.
Xiya understood this now.
The moment the mist dispersed, the Return Prisms activated.
They brought back many students.
"One, two, three, four... eight, nine, ten... One's missing—Mo Ying's not back."
Liushu made a quick headcount and immediately knew who was missing.
Both Xiya and Shuang Yun had returned safely.
Now, only one student hadn't come back—Mo Ying.
The mist had vanished, but Mo Ying's Return Prism still had no response.
"She may have ended up somewhere sealed off,"
"You take the students back, I'll go look for her."
Wei straightened her clothes and put on her white gloves.
"Didn't expect you to care so much about her."
"I don't care about her life or death, but holding this position, I must do my duty."
Wei said no more, entering the portal to the Fairy Homeland.
The mist had cleared.
Even so, Mo Ying still remained in this forest.
"Xiya! Shuang Yun!" she called her companions' names, but received no reply.
A fairy appeared around her.
If possible, Mo Ying really wanted to ask her for directions.
But they couldn't understand each other's languages.
Before a contract was made, she could not comprehend fairy speech.
This fairy, who looked similar to Mo Ying, circled her a few times.
Then, she came closer and sniffed at Mo Ying's magic aura.
Afterward, the fairy showed a satisfied smile, then took out a piece of red parchment.
On it was written: Contract.
"You want to make a contract with me?"
Mo Ying understood the fairy's intent.
To contract with a fairy was a dangerous thing—she needed to thoroughly check its terms.
"Your name is Anlus, a higher fairy, your ability is..."
Seeing this ability, Mo Ying's eyes widened in shock.
It was an exceptionally powerful ability.
Stronger than any mere recovery, movement, or destruction skill.
"The price is... pain."
Seeing the price, Mo Ying fell into deep thought.
"The more you use the ability, the more pain you must repay."
"The pain covers mental, physical, and soulful torment."
"Suicide is permitted to escape pain."
"Regret is forbidden."
"If the contract ability is not used, there is no price to pay."
"I will reap your pain to fulfill the contract."
Mo Ying finished reading what was written on the red parchment.
It meant that even after the contract, as long as she didn't use the ability, there would be no consequences.
It seemed to be a contract with no harm, provided she did not use the power.
And this power was extremely strong—unbelievably so.
Mo Ying hesitated for a long time. At last, she bit her lip, took out the contract pen Wei had given her.
As Mo Ying spoke out the words, the Fairy Queen appeared again.
With a wave of her hand, countless green runes emerged around them.
From Mo Ying and Anlus's bodies, a green thread extended from each, intertwining together, and on Anlus's red parchment, a line of green writing appeared.
It was likely Mo Ying's name, though written in fairy script.
"The contract is now inscribed on your lives."
As the Queen finished speaking, a massive, gaping maw lunged toward Mo Ying.
Before she could react, the maw engulfed her.
Only a severed arm was left outside.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!"
Razor-sharp teeth tore through Mo Ying's body, jaws repeatedly biting her within the beast's wet mouth.
This pain was enough to drive someone to death, yet Mo Ying could not even manage to commit suicide.
The experience lasted one minute, but for Mo Ying, it felt like ten years.
After a minute, Mo Ying sat up from the ground, soaked in cold sweat.
She looked at her unharmed body, her heart pounding as she looked ahead.
"You have a commendable willpower," said the Fairy Queen haughtily.
Mo Ying still couldn't speak properly.
"The contract's price—it was written on that parchment."
"I will reap your pain to fulfill the contract."
"This is too much! I never thought it would hurt this...this much..."
Mo Ying didn't know how to describe it.
"I care nothing for the terms of your contract. I only concern myself with sealing them. The payment for you both comes from that pain just now—I collect 10% of that pain."
"It's a long-term contract; naturally I collect more."
The Fairy Queen replied.
"What is your name?" the Fairy Queen asked Mo Ying.
Mo Ying answered, swaying as she stood and braced against a tree.
Just thinking of what happened made her heart nearly stop.
"Meiyas. That is my name," said the Fairy Queen.
"I rank fourth among the seven Fairy Queens. Anlus is an unusual fairy. Your light-dark dual nature will attract many abnormal fairies."
"After all, light and darkness are contradictory by nature."
"To be direct, you interest me."
"If you ever need strength, come find me."
"We can form temporary contracts, and I will only take a little as price."
"Thank you for your offer, but I'm afraid your price is too steep for me."
"Don't say that. I'd also like to taste the magic of light and darkness."
Meiyas tossed Mo Ying a green seed.
"It can bring you to the Fairy Homeland at any time. My 'branches' will always welcome you."
"One last free warning."
"Anlus has contracted with many others—all of them have met miserable ends."
Before Mo Ying could reply, meiyas disappeared.
Mo Ying pocketed the seed.
"I...will...feed...on...your...pain..."
"Until...you...rest...with...the...deep...earth..."
"I have...consumed...the pain of...forty-three...contractors..."
"You...are...the forty-fourth..."
