Chapter 70

‘’Hey, you look stressed,’’ I tell Harrison who doesn’t seem to be himself. Something seems to be bothering him since the party at my house a few days ago.

We are at Aliana’s because I wanted to spend more time with him before we go to the station to pay some sort of a visit to his mother.

Yeah, the evil one.

‘’You think so? I don’t feel stressed, I feel like you betrayed me, baby. You found out that you were Luke’s sister and you told me nothing? I love you, Clara and I always want my dear beauty to be very honest with me.’’

‘’I am so sorry, Harry. I found out when you were in the hospital. I was shocked because living with a family for twenty years and more, then finding out that they aren’t your biological family is hell on earth. My mum may her soul rest in eternity, may have died because of that too. I didn’t see any of this coming but now you and I are on the same page.’’

I tell a white lie. I know very well that I am ahead of him and if he’s throwing tantrums and I haven’t told him that he is my brother, then what will happen when he finds that out?

‘’Beautiful!’’ he calls prompting me to give him more attention. He is standing beside me. We are in Aliana’s study room and standing close to the window watching God knows what. ‘’Are you sure you are not hiding anything from me?’’ he asks quietly and trust me guilt runs hurriedly and hastily through my blood. I feel chills all over my body and I almost tremble with fear of the unknown.

‘’Why would I?’’ another lie from me. I shake my head. If I am not careful, he will walk away from me. We had an agreement with Harrison and lying was one of the things that we agreed that will not be part of our relationship.

I must have changed so much in the past year because I wouldn’t tell a lie when I fast came from home. I used to tell everything in black and white, as it is. I never ever had time to lie to anyone.

‘’I don’t know, baby. You tell me.’’ I smile when he pulls me to him. My stomach perfectly aligned with his. I am slightly shorter so I stand on tiptoe. I am feeling his warmth through his clothes. His two arms are snaked so caringly around my waist and my two palms resting squarely on both of his shoulders.

Our gazes are holding romantically to each other. He’s looking at me straight in the eyes and I don’t blink a little bit. I don’t want to miss the sweet moment that comes with looking at him straight in the eye. I want to relish it.

His beautiful brown eyes are sweet and fun looking.

They turn me on automatically.

‘’Really Clara?’’ my silly innate asks and I smile absently at Harrison.

‘’You look so beautiful.’’ I am so disappointed when he says that. I thought he was going to kiss me but he doesn’t. This is so disappointing.

He reads my silly mind and brings his lips closer to me. He rubs them on the tip of my nose and trust me I don’t want to but I end up closing my eyes to anticipate for his next move. Butterflies are misbehaving in my stomach and l know what that is.

The feeling he triggers and stirs in me.

‘’You guys have to get out.’’ Silly boy! That’s Alvin. He must be very happy when he spoils such a moment for us. I pull away from Harrison disappointed.

‘’You don’t have anything to worry about. You know I wouldn’t do something like that, don’t you?’’ he shrugs it off and we all get out without any other word.

When we come from the station, we will go to his apartment. That place is cool and private. We will have all the time for the two of us without any disturbance.

No disruption at all.

Aliana is already in the car when we walk out. Harrison draggles his key on Alvin’s face before he pulls me towards his direction. ‘’Drive your mum over, will you?’’ He says to Alvin over his shoulder.

‘’Yes, ma’am ‘’ he responds jokingly and I smile inwardly at how funny his response is.

It looks funny to see Jenna in this situation. Well, did I say funny? That’s a lie. Pure lie. It feels sad and wretched to have her in this locus.

She looks susceptible, vulnerable, helpless and weak. Disoriented even. I never in my little time that I have known her ever suspected that she would one day look like this.

She looks like hell itself.

We passed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation’s office and she is being charged with so many offenses that she cannot even be released on a bail.

Anyway, if I heard a single anecdote that she is being released, I would disappear from this city until further notice. The reason being she would go straight to finishing what she wanted to do that day. I am sure I will be her victim number one.

Apparently, she killed another woman and stole her kid. The woman’s parents have been living in fear since then and when they heard the news that the little queen bee had been arrested, they came running to provide their statement. As if that wasn’t enough, my mum, the goons she hired to kill her couldn’t see peace. She didn’t manage to pay them after promising to do so, and can you guess what happened?

Your guess is right. They reported her and that’s a big case. They will be acting like protected witnesses but will still be jailed. A reduced jail term.

Well, that’s just but the few that I might know of. She is never getting out of here unless she does what no man has ever done because Aliana is here to report that she got her son and how she did it really matters. Alvin had photos of the woman in question and the false documents that his parents were given. She is determined to make her pay.

We all are.

‘’What the hell are you two doing here?’’ she asks authoritatively. She never lost her influential, commanding and imposing voice. Maybe that’s the only thing she is left with because she has lost one of the most important things in this life.

Her family.

Well, the truth of the matter is that she is really trying to put up a face but I can tell that the pain is real.

‘’Harrison and I share a knowing look before he chooses to reply. ‘’We are here to see you, Jenna. I want you to know that despite the fact that you tried to kill me, I am still alive. The woman whom you imposed on me, the one you insisted that I had to marry because of the stupid blackmail you and the other she-devil held over each other, I am here. I have a baby with the woman I love and very soon, I mean quite soon we will have the best family on earth.’’ Harry explains quietly.

A peal of evil laughter follows from her. ‘’Even though …’’

I cut her off when I realize that she might start telling him that he’s my brother. ‘’I don’t care, Jenna! You can go rot in hell after this but I don’t give a hoot!’’

I feel Harrison pressing my hand softly and reassuringly. He must be wondering why I had to cut his mum off that way but I have to save my relationship.

‘’Okay, by the way, congratulations for locating your mother. How does it feel to know someone else raised you up while your stupid mother was whoring all over without a plan? How is it feeling to be away from your real mother for all those years?’’

‘’It feels sweet. You should try it.’’ I say sarcastically. I know I shouldn’t but I don’t want her to think that I was going to get intimidated by her.

Never!

She laughs evilly yet again. ‘’So, how did your bitchy mother …’’ I raise my hand almost slapping her but I hold back from that for the sake of the respect that I have for her son. The love of my life.

‘’Don’t you dare insult my mother ever again. For your records, your son is going to be my hubby dearest. You are going to rot in jail and my mum and I will enjoy the best of the mother-daughter relationship. Your son and I, ooh, we won’t have a wicked mother to worry about. Go to hell, Jenna.’’

‘’We’ll see about that,’’ she says sadly and I know I just hit the nail right on the head.

Right on cue Aliana walks in with Alvin walking closely beside her and trust me there is no way I am missing the best opportunity on earth to watch the drama that’s gonna unfold.

She is smiling ear to ear and I don’t have to be an intellect to see the worry in Jenna’s eyes. They are literally shining with fear.

‘’Hey Jenna, happy to see you, please meet Alvin. Alvin, this is Jenna and yeah, the famous rich, wicked, malevolent, immoral, and evil and all the bad things put together. The same woman that made sure that you and I never saw eye to eye. The one that did sell you to that family, this is her.’’

‘’Wow! I finally get a chance to meet you. Happy meeting you, Jenna and just so you know, the pleasure is all mine.’’

‘’Are you all here to terrorize me?’’

‘’Even worse, we are all here to tell you that your days are numbered and that you can never be a bitch forever. You have lost everyone in your family and life. Your kids don’t see a mum in you anymore, instead, they see a monster. I am supposed to be thanking God that I ever met you, that you played the role of a mother in my life but see what you turned me into. A sad human being. The best I could always do was to cry and hope that a miracle happens. So that I could get back my baby. You were …’’

‘’You can …’’

‘’Don’t! You should shut up when I speak. Don’t be too arrogant to speak when I speak remember I have the upper hand right now. You tried messing up with me a million times. Conspired with evil human beings like you to do things so that I would be blamed. You made sure I never ate when dad wasn’t there. You, Jenna, are the nastiest, appalling and the most despicable human being I have ever met.’’ She sniffles but follows it with angry laughter. ‘’You never wanted me. You knew I was really suffering but you went ahead and accused me of having an affair with your husband. A man who you stole from someone else because of your wickedness. A man who I literally saw as my dad. You should go to hell and join the cells!’’

I watch as Alvin holds his mum by the shoulder and rubs her back gently. Harrison grips my hand smoothly and squashes it very gradually. I feel the pain that Aliana is going through and I hope that she will find it in her heart to forgive this woman.

‘’You should have the pleasure of seeing the fruit of my womb. I don’t care how I begot him, I don’t care if he is a result of rape and abuse. I don’t! I mean nothing can ever stop me from loving the baby that God gave me. You and your wickedness decided that I will not have peace, right? You are literally mistaken. I am going to enjoy the residue of my life a happy and fulfilled mother while you rest in jail. In fact in an asylum because guess what? You are mentally rickety you have a mental disorder and you will rot in there forever and ever. You will never know peace! Karma has finally caught up with you and I will be here to bid you goodbye. You are finally reaping what you sow and at this point please remember that he who laughs last laughs best.’’

I feel funny, I feel sad both for Aliana and the commander bee. Hers has finally come to an end and I hope it will be well. That I will finally have my peace with Harrison and our little Ian.

The funniest part is that this woman isn’t even feeling guilty. She has the heart of a bad guy. She wipes off any fling of emotion that shows around her eyes.

She starts shrieking and yelping. She keeps shouting that we want to harm her and when an officer comes in, we are all asked to leave the cells.

We oblige and we turn to walk out with Alvin holding Aliana and my Harrison holding me but Aliana’s voice stops us on our trail.

‘’Please confirm that you ever gave birth. You have such an emotionless heart. The heart of a mother isn’t as impassive, detached, cold and unaffected like that of yours. Goodbye, Jenna. Please rot in peace.’’ Aliana has literally brought it all out. She wanted to pour her heart and that’s all she has done now. ‘’Rot in eternal peace, Jenna.’’ She finally says and walks out as we follow very closely.

‘’Drive us,’’ Harrison says with a tone of finality flinging the keys to me and I catch them mid-air. I tense. I know I have done it before but I am not sure I can do it confidently. Not especially at this moment that someone just provoked my spirit.

I believe in myself. I will drive him.

‘’Where do we go?’’

‘’To the hospital where I was born. I need answers.’’

‘’What sort of answers?’’

‘’Too many questions, baby. I will pass that.’’

Where is the hospital?’’ he gives the direction and I reverse towards that direction provided.

‘’What about Aliana and Alvin?’’

‘’They’ll be okay, beautiful. Trust me.’’ I shrug when he says that.

He knows better.

‘’After a few minutes’ drive, I realize that I am actually driving to Harrison’s apartment. Well, I know he needs lots of rest.

I do too.

The drive is quiet all through.

I pull up inside the vast parking and watch the enormous building in awe. He has a secret apartment which is posh and big for himself. We will rest in here for some time before going home to Ian.

He is about to open his door but I hold his hand. ‘’I was driving so I open doors.’’ He bursts out a hearty laughter.

‘’You are so funny. Men should do this shit not women.’’ I roll my eyes at that.

What a man can do a woman can do ten times better.

‘’And where is that written?’’

‘’Nowhere

‘’That’s the point. Stay put and I will do the necessary.’’

‘’I surrender.’’ He walks out after I get his door and holds my waist leading me to the house. I try walking towards the pulley but he resists and leads me towards the staircase.

When we get to the door, he opens it easily and stops me when I want to walk inside. He slings his arm at the back of my knees and the other one beneath my armpits. He holds me up effortlessly and leads me to the house.

He sets me on the huge couch in one of the corners of the vast living room. I feel like I want to take a shower. His stupid phone chooses to ring at that moment when he starts to kiss me.

What an annoying gadget.
