Chapter 65.

‘’You are awake!’’ I say excitedly. It feels good to have him awake, I know I wasn’t here for him but now I am and I am extremely happy that he has finally woken up.

He keeps glancing at me and closing his eyes. He must be really bushed. I am hoping that all these will end really soon since his mum has been arrested.

His dad looks a bit happy and sad at the same time. I feel sad seeing Harry this vulnerable, I want my enthusiastic him back and I hope he does come back with me and soon.

I kneel down next to the bad, put my arm across his chest gently and when I feel him move, my heart dives with joy.

A while ago, he was still and motionless but right now, he is moving even though he hasn’t shown any excitement. He blinks when his gaze holds mine and I smile at him slightly. He will get better soon.

For us.

‘’The baby, how is he?’’ I smile when those words leave his lips. He has finally asked about our baby. That to me is an achievement.

‘’The baby is doing great. He is fine. How are you feeling?’’

‘’I am okay.’’ He says gently. ‘’Being in this hospital sucks. I have been here like forever and these doctors aren’t discharging me

He is not, I know he isn’t but he has to say that he is. He is putting up a sturdy face, he wants me to believe things are okay but I know they’re not.

‘’You will be fine. I am here for you and you are going to be okay.’’ I tell him canoodling his face very gently.

‘’Can I ask you for a favour?’’ I nod. ‘’Please bring the baby, I would like to see him.’’

‘’Hey, you are a doctor, you know the hospital rules about kids under twelve years being brought to the ward. Are you going to ask me to bring the baby here?’’

‘’I am so sorry, just that I really wanted to see the baby. So much has happened in my life, I don’t know if I deserve anything anymore, I have sniffed demise so many times that I literally think that being alive today is a privilege. I want to use this prospect to see our baby and at least shout that I love him so much. I don’t want him thinking that these stupid boys parading around you are his father.’’

‘’Jeez! Why would you say all that?’’

He swings slightly and groans in pain. I turn to look at my back and his dad is already gone. I hold him concern covering my face.

‘’Do you want me to call a doctor to check on you?’’

‘’Not exactly. I want to have a few minutes with you. I know you hate me to death right now, I know you don’t wanna look at me right now and I know you are the best thing that ever happened to me. I have seen how much that guy Alvin loves you and I have seen how much Luke loves you. He protects you like a younger sister. If I didn’t know better, I would have said that Luke is your brother but no! Now, can you do me a favour?’’

‘’Another one?’’

‘’Yeah, another one.’’

‘’I am listening.’’

‘’Please stay by my side, please don’t go anywhere. I need you, Clara. This wasn’t my plan. You and I would have been together and very happy. Our kid would be growing under the care of mum and dad. I love you.’’ My sweet petite and endearing heart hikes with joy at the mention of that. Things seem not to have changed.

‘’I already made a decision, a final one.’’

‘’Really, Clara?’’

‘’Yes, I did.’’

‘’And what did you decide on?’’ I swear the fear that is plastered on his face is evidence. I can see that he qualms to listen to what I want to say but he is good at wiping that away.

‘’I will be here for you. I don’t care if I am not supposed to be with you because you are married to that Diana. I love you Harry and I want just you. You and I must belong together.’’ His brown, hazel eyes widen in pure shock. What did he expect? That I was going to walk away? Nope!

I love Harry.

He tries to stand up but falls back due to lack of energy. ‘’I love you, Clara. Thank you.’’

I hold him trying to support him. ‘’I love you too, Harry. Just as I had said before, I will always love you. I hope this mess will be cleared soon so that you and I can start the family that we have always wanted.’’

‘’I hope so too, beautiful.’’ He says and wow! I had literally missed that name completely. My sweet Harrison is back and I can’t wait to be free with him. ‘’I don’t want to be alone. Diana and her lunatic of a mother scared me to death. They have made my life a completely scared one and right about now, I cannot trust just anyone.’’

‘’Where is the baby right now?’’

‘’My mot … Um, He went home with Luke’s mum. He is in safe hands.’’ I am about to sell myself but I cut that off in a twinkle of an eye.

‘’Be careful, my sweetheart. I don’t want the baby to be in danger in any way. Although I know I have really exposed you and the baby to so much danger, please take care of yourself. If you want I can get you, bodyguards.’’

‘’I can take care of myself, Harrison. You don’t have to be worried about me.’’ I know that whatever I am saying isn’t from my heart. I don’t believe it.

‘’Hey, when you wanna lie, you have to try and up your game because you are doing a very poor job right now. You aren’t good at it.’’ I blush when he says that.

‘’You know that I am just saying what is happening, right?’’ he shakes his head. ‘’Besides, I am surrounded by very loving and caring people. I know they will take care of me just as they have always done it.’’

He shrugs, ‘’the latter makes sense. You are safer with them but please keep taking care of yourself.’’

I nod at him. ‘’I will.’’

‘’Thank you beautiful.’’

‘’You welcome. By the way, while you were asleep and I was taking care of you, your mum came here to kill me. She had a gun and after an argument, she almost shot me.’’

‘’What?’’

‘’You heard me. Your mum is just insane. She would have shot me dead if not for your dad. He came here and rescued me.’’

‘’Ooh my God! Where is she right now?’’

‘’In a police cell, I guess. That is if she really is there.’’

‘’Ooh no! She is one of those people and I don’t think she will stay in the cells. She is cunning and conniving, very sly. She will be out before you know it. It’s not a good thing but that’s what life is. The wicked always have the upper hand.’’

I feel my eyes stinging. I blink relentlessly to keep the threatening tears as far as I can possibly do. The fact that she can do that scares me a lot. I hate to say it but that woman would have died with her abettor.

‘’Harrison?’’

‘’Yes, beautiful.’’

‘’I am feeling threatened.’’

‘’I will never let any harm happen to you. I love you so much to see you ache. Don’t be blue for I will always be by your side. She will have to kill me first.’’

‘’And I will never let that happen to you,’’ I say authoritatively. ‘’You have missed death these tangible times and you may never be lucky one more time.’’

‘’I love my little miss bossy.’’

‘’And I love my huge Mr. Bossy.’’ He bursts out laughing loudly and heartily. He is tired but the laughter is genuine.

‘’Hey, mum left a letter for me. Can we read and see what is in the letter?’’

‘’I am so sorry about your mum.’’

‘’Don’t be. It is well.’’ He rubs my back very gently.

‘’I want your strength, Clara.’’ I smile when he says that but I keep mum. ‘’You want you and I to read that?’’ I nod at him. ‘’Can we story a bit? Tell me about what happened while I was away. Why Alvin is all over you and if you can, what you and I should do once I am out of here.’’ I smile at all those questions.

‘’Which one should I respond to first?’’

‘’Any of them, just talk I wanna hear your views and please note that I will do anything that you ask of me. I love you that much.’’

‘’Thank you, for starters, while you were away, I suffered so much but I was taken care of hence I survived. I almost fell for Alvin but …’’I stop when his eyes widen in horror and I literally feel the ache in his heart. ‘’I didn’t. Alvin is always all over me because he wants to protect a friend.’’

‘’Are you lying to me? Even though you literally know how much I hate lying?’’

‘’Which part wasn’t true?’’

‘’The part where you said that he is protecting a friend. That guy is in love with you, right?

‘’Well, find out from him. I don’t go around defining what people feel for me.’’ I say focusing on his gaze. ‘’When are you leaving the hospital?’’

Right on cue, a doctor walks in and I move closer to Harrison. I don’t like it when I leave his side and he gets hurt.

‘’Madam, please give us some privacy.’’ The respectable old doctor says and I smile at Harrison as he beams right back sweetly. He is pale and emaciated but still outstandingly very handsome.

‘’She stays.’’ Harrison chooses to respond on my behalf with the tone of finality. The doctor smiles then he talks to Harrison. I am a bit too keen on what they are saying but I miss most of it because they are on medical terms.

I smile very brightly when he says that Harrison is going home. He’s been discharged and I am happy about it.

He turns on his heels and walks away without talking much.

Someone knocks at the door and I wonder why. Hospital doors are somehow public and people usually just walk-in

I walk to the door and Alvin and Aliana are standing there. They promised that they’d come in the morning and here they are.

After minutes of argument, we all agree that Harry goes to Aliana’s house. It will be easier for him to be taken care of. Aliana loves him and will not let him be alone at whatever time.

I will find it really easy taking the baby there.

Days later.

I am seated on the edge of my bed inside my spacious bedroom. Mum had a beautiful bedroom set aside for me. I thought the vast space wasn’t necessary but hey, it is what it is. After all, I don’t control anything. Mum does whatever she reckons right and that’s just her.

She mentioned that she had hopes of getting her daughter and she kept that bedroom specifically for her missing spawn. She is so hopeful and that’s a common trait between us.

Harrison is doing well and he is bonding nicely with little Ian. I love them both and I wish this becomes a family one day.

Ian is peacefully asleep and I am just happy when I look at him. He is a very handsome dude and dad was absolutely right about his looks. He looks exactly like Harrison. I am about to go pay my Harrison a visit but something catches my eye.

My mum’s letter.

I haven’t had time to read it plus, imagine if mum is confessing something in the letter. Gosh! I will go read it with my mum in the gazebo.

I have been very busy these past few days with my exams. I started when I was pregnant and now I have my momma to thank for it. She insisted that pregnancy isn’t a disease and that I had to enroll for my course. It’s close to a year and guess what! I am soon completing my diploma.

I smile when I think that months ago I was a hopeless freak who met Harrison and fell in love still hopelessly. I wasn’t even ready for love but it happened.

I came to the city with hopes of working as a maid and saving money for a dream I had but in between the struggle, I met my real family. I didn’t know that I had them until shit happened.

Now I am leaving off my mum’s wealth and fame. I have a sweet sister and a very loving, caring, protective and sometimes pompous brother.

I love my family.

My dad here loves me and he doesn’t wanna know if I am not biologically his daughter.

Well, I am a lucky bitch! I have three fathers and even though one of them doesn’t know what we share, he still cares about me. I hope I will be introduced soon.

‘’Baby girl, you are crying,’’ Mum notes politely and I literally had no idea that I was. ‘’What’s that you are holding?’’ she asks when her eyes fly to my hand.

I look at my hand. The envelope. I think I will read it today.

I literally wanna know what’s in here.

Um … this is mum’s letter. She left it behind for me and I don’t have the courage to open it. I want you and I to do it together.’’

She beams brightly. ‘’Is it necessary?’’

‘’Mum please!’’ I give her a puppy face. ‘’You are my pillar you know? And I want you to be there when I fall down.’’

‘’You are not falling. Not any time soon.’’

‘’Say yes, mummy!’’

‘’Yes!’’

‘’Yeeees!’’ I shout almost at the top of my voice and she signals me not to wake Ian up.

‘’Let’s go to the marquee.’’ I hold her hand and we walk to the shelter in a hurry.

I will finally find out what mum wanted to share.
