Harry,

So what? She is just gonna go like that? Leaving me here without even caring if I matter? Why would she do that to me?

Clarita came here to see me, then that guy just shows up and they both leave? I thought that maybe she would stay a bit longer so that I could ask about the baby. She cares more about that Alvin guy than she does about me.

I wonder what is cooking in her pot. I love that girl and that remains forever. I may have married that lunatic who should be signing the divorce papers soon but cannot be found. I feel so bad that I cannot be there for her when her mum is dead. Alvin has to stick around her making me the absent one. I will compensate someday.

I don’t wanna let Clara know that I will divorce her soon and that she and I will be able to start the life that we have always wanted. My mum isn’t gonna do anything to me this time round especially now that she already achieved what she wanted. She already messed my life, I hope she gets to pay for it all.

‘’Come back here, Harry. You are way too deep in thoughts and that’s not really good for you.’’ Anita calls startling me and I smile at her absently. She thinks that my thinking is a sin.

‘’How do you know that guy?’’ I ask in a bid to make her let go of the current subject.

‘’The hot guy?’’ I just shake my head. I don’t know what defines hotness so I will not agree with her. I tilt my head towards her. I need to hear more. ‘’He has always been my crush, all my life.’’

‘’Really? I didn’t know about him until now. How did you learn about him?’’ well, when curiosity gets the better part of me, that’s what happens.

I ask questions.

‘’He was my best friend’s boyfriend. They used to date but she told me that the guy was in love with another woman so, it didn’t work for them.’’ Wow!

‘’In love with another woman?’’ she nods. ‘’Would you know who the other woman was?’’ I desperately hope that the other woman isn’t my Clarita.

She shakes her head. ‘’I don’t know. Maybe it’s Clarita.’’

‘’My Clarita?’’

‘’I said maybe.’’

‘’But how’s that? In love with another woman and dating a different one? Who does that?’’

‘’Asks the person who is married to another woman and in love with a different one. How’s that?’’ she asks piecing me directly into my heart.

‘’I am hurt, we all know that my situation is completely different.’’

She shrugs like she wouldn’t give a hoot. ‘’Okay,’’

‘’So that guy is your friend’s ex-boyfriend?’’ I ask Anita who seems really seemed surprised after seeing that guy Alvin.

‘’Yes, Harry. He was her boyfriend but they broke up. I am really and honestly very surprised to see him. He is one of the very rare species and I would obviously know him anywhere.’’

I smile at that. Anita talking about a man like that is new to me. She is one of those reticent and quiet human beings I know. I don’t know if I have ever seen her around a boy.

‘’What makes you think that his type is rare?’’ I ask her and she winks. ‘’How do you know that he was your friend’s ex? Because from what I learned from my Clarita, the guy went to do some studies, I mean he was Clarita’s best friend for years but he disappeared on her.’’

‘’The first question, because that’s the truth. He is Handsome, dark and tall. Just the way I like my men.’’ My eyes shoot open.

‘’Your men?’’ I ask surprised.

‘’Yes, my men.’’ She says courageously and with confidence. ‘’The second question, my friend showed me a photo of him and that’s how I met him. On a photo.’’

‘’Shocker!’’ I say making her laugh. This girl must be high on something. ‘’Did you eat something when you left here earlier?’’

She shakes her head in disbelief. ‘’Why would you ask that?’’

‘’Because you are acting a bit too weird. You sound like whatever you just ate has made you high. Are you on drugs?’’

‘’Hey, don’t you ever disrespect me that way. You are being too much with the way you are suspecting me.’’ I lift up both hands tiredly, I am just too tired to argue with her. I love her, my little sister and I know that she is the only one who genuinely understands me.

Henry was here but he left and I am happy he did because I want Anita to tell me if he has ever fallen in love and with whom.

‘’Why were you so surprised to see Alvin?’’

‘’Listen, brother. I didn’t expect to see that guy here. Neither did I anywhere in the world. He is dead according to so many people, in fact, I would really want to listen to his story.’’

‘’What do you mean he is dead? Didn’t you see him parading closer to Clara? I am sure he is trying to make her fall in love with him. That’s what dead and risen men do. I will not allow that though.’’

‘’When that guy was coming home, my friend called me. She had conspired with the pilot to cause an accident. The airplane was made-up to develop mechanical itches then crash and he was to die in the midst of other passengers.’’

I hold my hand over my mouth. ‘’That sounds like the most ill-advised and rash thing you can ever do. What would she gain by doing that?’’

‘’She would have managed to kill the man who refused to love her the right way. The guy who instead of loving her was busy talking about how the other woman was better. it was so hard to believe since the guy kept saying that he had never even told the woman that she loved her.’’

‘’Gross!’’

‘’Tell me about it,’’ she says casually. ‘’Anyway, I was so mad at her for doing that. Like I haven’t talked to her ever since that incident and that is because she doesn’t exist anymore. I believe in letting go so as to discover other hidden opportunities. Like they say, ‘when one door closes, many more doors open’ and that would be an opportunity to live and move forward. Besides the girl conspiring and making the situation worse, she also cheated on the guy with his friend. Who was also his roommate.’’

‘’You are so informed, aren’t you?’’

‘’I am. The moment my friend showed me his photo, I fell in love but I never showed my friend anything. I made sure that I did my investigations secretly and I took advantage of her telling me stories to interrogate her.’’

‘’You are such a detective.’’

‘’What do you expect? That your only sister will miss opportunities because of what? That can never happen. You got to work smart especially if you want to achieve your goals.’’

‘’Good to know. Now, I need you to tell me something, sister,’’ I tell her quietly. I know she might say no to it but I got to try, right?

‘’I am listening.’’

‘’Have you ever had a boyfriend before?’’ she facepalms. ‘’Hey, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that I don’t know what is going on in my sister’s life. I don’t know if she has been broken if she is happy if she needs me or if she is in some toxic relationship …’’

‘’Just like you?’’ I fight the compulsion to roll my

I feel really bad when I see tears balancing in her eyes. I didn’t expect her to feel bad but I had to ask the question anyway. When your sister, who is the young one cares so much about you and only wants your well-being, you should automatically do the same and more for her.

‘’Yes, I have.’’ I tilt my head on the side to listen to her because that piques my attention. Right on cue, a nurse walks in and I have never felt so disappointed in the recent past like I am right now. Wouldn’t she have come another time?

‘’Mr. William’s how are you feeling?’’

‘’Fine, I need to go home.’’

‘’Sure, you should be going tomorrow.’’ I feel really good when she says that. I am tired of being here. I want to get better from home and when I get a chance, I will go and hide in my apartment which only Anita and Clarita know. I will not come out easily until I manage to get that Diana out of my way and bring back Clara to my heart fully. We will go, and I hope she accepts to go against all odds with me.

‘’Okay, why not today?’’ I ask seriously.

‘’Because there is a doctor who is doing rounds and by the time he gets here, it might be a bit too late for you to be discharged.’’

‘’What does that mean?’’

‘’That we as a hospital doesn’t discharge patients at night and if we do, you leave the following day in the morning,’’ she says patiently. ‘’Sir! I thought you are part of the hospital and you know the hospital rules? Why would you play damn?

‘’Don’t worry, I wasn’t playing anything on you.’’ She does the checking. I don’t know if she really is being honest or not. A doctor coming in to check on patients? Okay!

When she finally walks out, I sigh, a sigh of relief. I have no idea why she had to spoil the sweet family moment for me.

‘’Um ... sister, as I was saying, you need to put your brother in the know. After I almost died, I decided to live my life but the most that I am going to do to get my Clarita back. Her and my baby must come back to me because I will never live a happy life without Clarita.’’

‘’I will help you, brother.’’ Anita offers, making my heart jump in gladness.

‘’Thank you, sweet sister.’’

‘’You are welcome, sweet brother. Anyway, as I was saying, I met Damian when I was a freshman in college. He was initially one of those sweet people. A gentleman, he stood up when he saw me, to hug me. He drove me around and paid my bills most of the time. He never had much but he was always there when I needed him. I dropped and avoided several men just to be with him.’’

‘’Wow, such a sweet description. I hope my Clarita talks about me that way.’’ She winks with a slight smirk.

He had friends, they loved each other because you could never meet Damian and not see Jesse or Humphrey around. They were either together or somewhere in the same vicinity. One day, I happen to pay him a surprise visit and guess what I found!’’

‘’What!’’

‘’Those three were having a threesome. They were busy with each other kissing here and there. I stood there for like ten minutes unnoticed. I watched as they released in unanimity and as they enjoyed their thing. I was disgusted and I thought that he didn’t deserve me. I never knew that Damian could have done that to me. He pretended to have loved me so much yet he never touched me as a woman. He always said that we would have the best times after marriage.’’

Just when I thought mine was bad. She went through all that and didn’t talk about it? ‘’Sorry sister.’’

‘’Don’t be. I moved on. I left walking stealthily and pounded the door behind me. I have no idea if they saw me but I walked hastily to my car and stepped on the gas like the lunatic that I was. I wasn’t ready to listen to his wining and pretending that what I saw wasn’t meant to be.’’

‘’Did he ever follow you?’’

‘’He didn’t. He dropped out of school and was found murdered weeks later. Anecdotes had it that the two found him cheating on them with another man and that’s when he was killed like a rat.’’ She says with so much pain. ‘’You remember the time I skipped school for days and couldn’t talk to anyone?’’ I nod.

‘’Yes, and you didn’t eat either.’’

‘’Those days. I wanted to transfer but I realized that it would have caused me so much. New friends and I wouldn’t have done my course. I was right not to have done that shit because right now, I would have been wondering if I was ever normal.’’

‘’And you never spoke to a brother?’’

‘’that’s what I am doing right now. I have never spoken to anyone about it. What happened to Damian traumatized me but I had to live through it. I said even with his death, I was going to survive because I had survived with him being gay.’’

‘’I have never fallen for another guy with the intensity which I fell for the late Damian. I decided to stay away from men because I saw that as a betrayal. I focused on my studies and hey, brother, life had to move on, right?’’

‘’Right. I love your enthusiasm so much.’’

‘’Thank you. Now you know about all that. Let’s work towards bringing you and Clara back together. That idiot Diana should go rotting in jail. I hate to hear people commit a crime and survive.’’

‘’Same as your friend. I want to know how Alvin survived a crash and I will research if there was a crash.’’

‘’Hey, no need. My friend cheated on Alvin’s friend and he killed her taciturnly. She was or rather her body was fed to the dogs. Her parents were so disappointed but imagine the crash she caused and all the lives lost.’’

‘’The world is confusing.’’

‘’And the happenings are getting worse each day.’’ I just nod without saying another word.

Right on cue, the door opens and in walks, the person that I didn’t wanna see. How on earth did she manage to come to her?

Is she the new doctor? I have no idea why and how she came in here.
