Chapter 310: Chapter 310
(Thanks to my friends kpkkan, Gu Buye, Kai Xin Luoba, Gouzi Chazi, and Shamo Pangpang Daxia for their encouragement with their monthly tickets)
It was the last night in the old emergency department, and they still had to be diligent at their posts. Luckily, the flow of daytime patients was manageable; they just had to take care of a couple of drunken individuals, and that was it.
Liu Banxia took extra care to make himself presentable. It was September 9th, an auspicious day for the new building to officially open. This was going to be their new home.
"I just went to check out the new building, and wow, it’s truly incredible! It’s going to be so much more convenient for everything in the future," said Liang Xiaolin, returning excitedly after a quick tour.
"You’re just seeing it now? I thought you’d snuck over there a few times already," Liu Banxia said.
Liang Xiaolin rolled her eyes at him. "How could I have the nerve to keep sneaking over there? The MRI, CT, and X-ray rooms are all on the basement floor. The first floor houses the various clinic rooms, rooms for minor instrument examinations, and the laboratory. The second floor has the internal medicine ward and the ICU, while the third floor hosts the surgical ward and the observation area."
"The fourth floor is the green channel, and the Fifth Floor is the operating theater. The three floors above that are also reserved for us, but we’re still figuring out how to utilize them. There’s a possibility we’ll introduce high-end VIP wards." Latest content publıshed on 𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝⚫𝕗𝕚𝕣𝕖⚫𝕟𝕖𝕥
"So, there are no operating rooms on the first floor?" Liu Banxia asked curiously.
"How could there not be?" Liang Xiaolin replied. "Do I even need to say it? They’re fully equipped to handle emergency surgeries."
"You’re going to be in the limelight today. There’s a group photo. At a minimum, everyone else is an associate chief physician. You’re the only exception, seeing as you’re the chief resident."
"What’s so great about that? Being in a group photo with such a crowd... the pressure is immense," Liu Banxia said with a sigh of resignation.
The hospital, or rather Chen Zhenxing, had truly spared no expense this time. The current emergency center was staffed with one chief physician and three associate chief physicians. These individuals, with the exception of anyone from general surgery, were all senior attending physicians from their respective departments. For instance, Chen Xuehai from cardiovascular surgery, Chen Hongyang from pediatrics, and Meng Qingfan from internal medicine—these three were all associate chief physicians. Shi Lei was expected to become an associate chief physician in general surgery next year if he passed his assessment and evaluation.
Actually, even general surgery only had three ordinary resident doctors: him, Wang Chao, and Qi Wentai. But they were no slouches; after all, they would be able to obtain their attending physician titles by next year. As long as they didn’t make mistakes, they could all get the attending physician contracts.
Resident doctors in other departments weren’t as fortunate. Even if they obtained the attending physician title, they would still have to endure a longer wait before their contracts were upgraded. Some might say this was unfair, but that was just how things were. These preferential conditions were granted to them after they joined the emergency center; otherwise, they would have had to endure a much longer wait.
"Teacher Liu, Teacher Liu, take a look, HAHAHA..." At that moment, Xu Yino burst in again, holding his mobile phone, absolutely thrilled.
Liu Banxia took it and glanced; it was his profile introduction. Minimal-incision appendectomy was listed first, followed by liver surgery—these were the specially recommended procedures. Although the entries weren’t numerous, they were very eye-catching. Of course, other procedures he excelled at were also listed below, making for quite a long list. This was a common feature in many hospitals, designed to help patients choose which doctor to register with.
But what was the crucial part? Liu Banxia’s listed position was on par with those of the department heads, which made his status particularly prominent. In Xu Yino’s eyes, this was definitely something to celebrate. After snapping a picture of it, he had rushed back to share the good news with Liu Banxia.
Liu Banxia felt quite burdened. I’m being praised too highly, he thought. My current abilities don’t seem to have reached the level recognized by the Chief Director and Director Zhou. But it’s not something I can change just by thinking about it. I still have to follow arrangements and just work my hardest from now on. Meeting such good leaders and teachers is truly a blessing in my life.
He went upstairs to check on Han, who was recovering nicely. He would be ready for discharge after one more blood test tomorrow. Moreover, Han was the only patient in the emergency department requiring a ward transfer, making him, officially, the very first inpatient of the new Emergency Center.
After they waited a little longer, Zhou Shuwen walked over. "It’s about time," he said. "We’ll be starting soon. Let’s close up here."
"Director, why did you come down personally?" Liu Banxia quickly asked.
"I did work here for some time, after all, even though I didn’t spend much time in the office here," Zhou Shuwen replied with a smile. "This place will soon be converted into a physical examination center and will need to be renovated. Don’t feel burdened about cooperating with the other departments. We all have the same goal—to develop and expand the emergency center. For the time being, you and Shi Lei will have to hold the fort for general surgery cases coming through the emergency department. The main general surgery department can’t just wash its hands of us either, as we haven’t found suitable new personnel yet."
"Director, please rest assured," Liu Banxia nodded firmly.
It might seem will make Shi Lei and me more tired, but in reality, it’s also a great opportunity, Liu Banxia thought. An opportunity to perform more surgeries and to accumulate management experience. I’m not arrogant enough to think that just because I’m the chief resident, I can handle everything. Many matters still require the cooperation of the heads of other departments. For some things, it would be more effective if Shi Lei handled the communication. After all, personal relationships are one thing, but in a work setting, how many people would be willing to listen to a resident like me, who has only just finished his standardized training? It’s not as if these department heads are as easy to manage as Wei Yuan, Wang Huan, and Xu Hui.
The preparations were grand, but the opening was simple. After all, this was a somewhat unique place of business; you couldn’t just welcome guests as other shops do. Chen Zhenxing gave a brief speech, introduced the new emergency center, set a few small goals, and then it was time for the group photo and the official start of operations.
After the group photo, Liu Banxia saw Qiu Huaili holding Doudou in the crowd. "Brother Qiu, why are you here?"
"I knew today was your big day, so I brought Doudou over to join in the excitement," Qiu Huaili said. "I was originally planning to send over several rows of flower baskets for you, but your sister-in-law said that wouldn’t be appropriate."
"It’s a good thing you listened to your sister-in-law; otherwise, it really would have caused a stir today. Wait a moment—Dr. Shi, Doctor Xu, come over here!" Liu Banxia called out.
Hearing his call, Shi Lei and Xu Hui ran over.
"No need for much introduction, this is Brother Qiu," Liu Banxia said.
"President Qiu, I really can’t thank you enough," Xu Hui said.
"Don’t be so polite; it was nothing," Qiu Huaili said. "My brother asked, so it had to be done. He’s not the type to ask for help recklessly. I was all prepared, thinking it would be at least eight or ten units, but it turned out to be just two."
"Don’t be impatient; we have to take it slow," Liu Banxia teased. "We can’t just fleece one sheep completely bare, can we? How’s Tiggie doing at your place? He’s not getting bullied by Doudou, is he? I heard Ming Yuan complaining to me that Tiggie was supposed to be his, but now you and Doudou have completely taken him over?"
"HAHAHA, you can’t blame me for that," Qiu Huaili chuckled. "I don’t know why this little one loves small animals so much. As soon as she wakes up, she doesn’t look for anyone else, only Tiggie. I was just about to talk to you about this. That person... Lu Gang, was it? Is there anything I can do for him? Tiggie is so intelligent and understanding; I feel uneasy just taking him in for free ."
"Not much you can do, I’m afraid. Even we can’t help much," Liu Banxia shook his head. "He’s estimated to have about two to three months left. If lymphoma develops, it progresses much faster than other cancers. Actually, by taking good care of Tiggie, you’re fulfilling his greatest wish."
"Sigh... it scares me just thinking about it," Qiu Huaili said. "It’s a good thing Ming Yuan ran into you when he was hospitalized last time. If he’d been afflicted with gout, he would have been tormented for life. Alright, you all must be very busy. Doudou and I won’t add to your troubles. I need to take her back to play with Tiggie. With Tiggie around, she doesn’t pester for anything else."
"Alright, take care. When I get some time off, I’ll come over to your place to freeload a meal," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
Even though Doudou was young, she knew they were leaving and waved her little hand to say goodbye to Liu Banxia. It seems Tiggie really holds a very high place in her heart, Liu Banxia mused. My position as her ’big toy’ has been completely usurped.
"I didn’t expect President Qiu to be so amiable. You really have a lot of clout, Dr. Liu," Xu Hui exclaimed with admiration.
"My influence isn’t that great; he’s just a friendly person who enjoys making connections," Liu Banxia said with a laugh. "We’ll be getting very busy in a few days. Who wants to take on the ambulance dispatch duty today, you or Shi Lei?"
"I’ll go," Xu Hui said. "It’s usually us internists who handle these kinds of calls anyway."
This was another new change. Now that they were a fully-fledged emergency center, they also had to take on emergency dispatch duties. Previously, they would wait for the city’s central ambulance dispatch to send patients to them; now, they had to go out and retrieve patients themselves.
"The interview over there seems to be almost finished. Is it you and Wang Chao next?" Shi Lei asked.
Liu Banxia nodded with a smile. "My part is easy. I just need to talk about the dangers of excessive nitrous oxide inhalation, and that’s it. Wang Chao has a more significant task; he needs to explain the importance of popularizing medical knowledge."
"Huh? Why is Deputy Chief Director Wang Rongya coming over?" Xu Hui asked in surprise, looking in her direction.
"If I said she’s coming for me, would you believe it?" Liu Banxia said coolly. "Regarding the nitrous oxide interview, Boss, you cover for me."
Hearing his words, Shi Lei and Xu Hui were both stunned. They thought back carefully: Liu Banxia hadn’t caused any trouble recently, had he? And hadn’t the hospital already dealt with the matter concerning that patient with toxic epidermal necrolysis?
"Heh-heh," Liu Banxia sneered. "Forgotten about the patient who ingested rat poison? Actually, someone informed me yesterday. I thought the hospital would at least consider the matter from the perspective of protecting its own staff. Since nothing happened yesterday, I assumed it had blown over. But in reality, they were specifically waiting for today. Talk about having prestige, huh? I’d say mine is pretty significant, enough to trouble a Deputy Chief Director to personally handle the matter."
Just as he finished speaking, Chen Zhenxing beckoned to him from nearby.
"Banxia, the Health Bureau has received a complaint. You’ll need to cooperate with the Medical Affairs Department later," Chen Zhenxing said, his expression grim.
"Alright. I’ve already made arrangements for the interview; Shi Lei and Wang Chao can handle it," Liu Banxia replied calmly.
Chen Zhenxing paused, looked at him with some surprise, and then nodded with satisfaction.
