Chapter 281: Chapter 281
Binhai Medical College was also a prominent institution in Binhai City. Its own capabilities were strong, and being a medical college, its status was somewhat special.
Today was the second day of official registration at Binhai Medical College, and quite a few freshmen were arriving. Moreover, not a single one came alone; they mostly arrived with their own small entourage.
"Dr. Liu, why don’t you and your parents cool down here for a bit?" Liang Xiaolin asked. "I’ll go handle the registration procedures. Once the dormitory is confirmed, we can all head over together."
"Sounds good. Thanks for your hard work. I’ll add an extra dish for you at lunch," Liu Banxia said with a laugh.
Liang Xiaolin rolled her eyes. How insincere!
"Linlin, I’ll go with you," Qiaoqiao called out.
Liang Xiaolin glanced at her. "It’s okay, I can manage on my own. You rest here with Qing Kewa."
Qiaoqiao felt distressed; she really wanted to go with Liang Xiaolin. Girls are very perceptive, and she felt that the way Peng Xiuqin was looking at her was rather particular. But she had no experience in such matters and wondered if she was just being overly sensitive.
"Dr. Liu, can’t we hang out together tomorrow?" Qing Kewa asked.
"I have to work tomorrow. It’s already great that I have a day off today. Tomorrow will be a busy day for Qiaoqiao. Anyway, I’m entrusting my parents to you. Take them wherever you think is fun," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"Okay, okay, leave them to me, leave them to me!" a nervous Qiaoqiao blurted out.
After speaking, she realized her words had been a bit off and nervously clenched her small fists. Fortunately, Liu Banxia’s phone rang at that moment, saving her from the awkwardness.
"Chief Director Xu, surely you didn’t know I was off today, did you?" Liu Banxia quipped after answering the call.
"I don’t have such foresight. But I do see you. Wait there, I’m coming over," Xu Chengjun said and then hung up.
Liu Banxia was taken aback. Holding his phone and looking around, he saw Xu Chengjun approaching with a small group of people.
"Chief Director Xu, are you also here to drop off a student?" Liu Banxia asked as Xu Chengjun came closer.
"My nephew. He finally got admitted this year, so I brought him over to get familiar with the campus," Xu Chengjun said with a laugh. "Aren’t you all curious who Liu Banxia is? Well, this is him. In the future, when Haoyu starts his internship, we’ll send him to the Second Hospital to learn under Dr. Liu."
"Chief Director Xu, you really shouldn’t praise me so much," Liu Banxia said quickly.
"Who knows what you’ll grow into in a few years? Are you also here to drop off a student today?" Xu Chengjun asked.
Liu Banxia nodded. "They’re from my town, and also distant relatives from my mother’s side. So I just came along with them. You should get back to your business; I see there are so many people registering now."
"Do you have time for lunch? If so, let’s eat together. Every time I’ve been to Jinshui District, you’ve treated me. I absolutely must treat you back at least once."
"Haha, not today. Some other time. I’ll definitely give you the chance to treat me, don’t worry," Xu Chengjun said, patting Liu Banxia’s shoulder.
Liu Banxia didn’t insist; there would be plenty of opportunities in the future. Being too insistent might put Xu Chengjun in an awkward position.
"Banxia, was that the Chief Director of a hospital?" Liu Qingdong asked when Liu Banxia returned.
"Yes, he’s the Chief Director of the hospital in Jinshui District. Your high-speed train probably stopped in Jinshui District on your way here," Liu Banxia nodded.
"I heard from your cousin Liang Xiaolin that you also go to their hospital to perform surgeries?" Liu Qingdong asked again.
Liu Banxia could only nod again. "Occasionally. I mostly do appendectomies. I earn a bit of pocket money that way; otherwise, I wouldn’t dare take you all to a fancy restaurant today."
Liu Qingdong felt quite gratified; his son had truly made something of himself.
Just moments before, while Liu Banxia was chatting with Xu Chengjun, Qiaoqiao, to avoid awkwardness, had briefly explained Xu Chengjun’s identity to Liu Banxia’s parents.
Liu Qingdong’s first reaction had been disbelief. Even though Xu Chengjun was the Chief Director of a district hospital, his rank might even be higher than the Chief Director of their own city’s hospital. After all, their hometown was just a county-level city, and not even an economically developed one. Despite that, he himself had failed to get a job at that hospital back then.
He had asked Liu Banxia to confirm, and now he truly understood. His son was very capable, almost on par with those specialists who often came to the city hospital for consultations. The source of this content ɪs n͟o͟v͟e͟l͟f͟i͟r͟e͟.net
Liu Qingdong felt he could finally hold his head high. The incident where he was scammed and failed to secure the job had made him unable to hold his head high in town for a long time.
When in a good mood, people tend to talk more. Peng Xiuqin, in particular, was having a great chat with Qiaoqiao and Qing Kewa. Liu Banxia, on the other hand, felt somewhat like a bystander, only able to chime in sporadically.
"Ah, Teacher Liu, hello!" a young man exclaimed, running over as they were chatting.
"You look familiar. Are you also an intern at the Second Hospital?" Liu Banxia asked curiously.
"My name is Chen Changyou. I’m in the same class as Xu Yino, and I’m currently in General Surgery. I missed your small-incision surgical demonstration last time. When will you be doing another teaching demonstration?" Chen Changyou asked.
"You’ll have to wait a bit. Our emergency department is moving to the new building, so we need to wait until things settle down there. Which teacher are you with in General Surgery?" Liu Banxia asked.
"Teacher Zhang Yun. She often mentions you. She said that the first time you performed a fasciotomy in the Emergency Department, you did an excellent job—something others wouldn’t dare to attempt," Chen Changyou said.
"She’s just being kind. I was just following Dr. Zhang’s example. Dr. Zhang’s medical skills are also incredible; learn diligently from her. Whenever you want some more practical experience, you can come spend a few days in our emergency department. I’ll let you experience it firsthand," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
He didn’t consider Chen Changyou an outsider. After all, without Teacher Zhang Yun’s guidance back then, he wouldn’t have progressed so quickly. Even if her words had been unintentional, he had genuinely reaped tangible benefits.
"Teacher Liu, we all really envy Xu Yino and the others now. I’m starting to regret it; I should have just steeled myself and chosen the emergency department back then," Chen Changyou said.
"Actually, it’s tough everywhere. The exhaustion in the Emergency Department isn’t as light as it sounds. Haven’t you noticed that even though they eat heartily with me every day, they’ve all lost weight?" Liu Banxia said, laughing. "They just happened to catch that initial wave and assisted me in more surgeries, which is why they got hands-on experience earlier. General Surgery is also full of experts. After all, we’re all under Director Zhou."
"It’s rare for you to have a day off. You should relax properly and not waste your time here with me. When you want to intern in the Emergency Department, just come find me. I’ll let you truly experience just how exhausting the emergency department can be."
"Thank you, Teacher Liu! I won’t disturb you any longer," Chen Changyou said gratefully.
Liu Qingdong placed his hands behind his back, and his posture straightened with pride. Even if he hadn’t fully understood the conversation between Liu Banxia and Chen Changyou, it didn’t diminish his happiness. The respectful way Chen Changyou addressed his son as ’Teacher Liu’ indicated that his son’s status was indeed quite high. What parent wouldn’t be happy and proud?
After about ten more minutes, Liang Xiaolin returned with a joyful Peng Xiuzhi.
"Are all the procedures done?" Liu Banxia asked with a smile.
"All done! I didn’t realize you were so influential!" Peng Xiuzhi said happily.
Liang Xiaolin, beside her, was highly amused, which baffled Liu Banxia even more.
"A lot of people know you! As soon as they heard I was your Third Aunt, it was amazing! Everything became so much easier," Peng Xiuzhi revealed.
Liu Banxia gave Liang Xiaolin a helpless look. He hadn’t seen his Third Aunt Peng Xiuzhi in a long time, but he knew she definitely wasn’t the type to go around flaunting this special family connection. The only one capable of such "flaunting" had to be Liang Xiaolin.
"You were the one teasing me earlier! Some of my classmates are at the reception helping with new student orientation, so I just happened to mention it," Liang Xiaolin said with a grin.
"You mischievous girl. Just wait, next time, all the intoxicated patients are yours to handle," Liu Banxia said with a sigh.
Their interaction made Peng Xiuqin frown.
She wasn’t concerned about Liu Banxia’s current achievements, his capabilities, or how successful he had become; she only cared about who might become her daughter-in-law. She instinctively felt that this girl, Qiaoqiao, had designs on her son. Why else would she have borrowed such a nice car and be helping him out with everything? But now, seeing the harmonious interaction between Liu Banxia and Liang Xiaolin, she felt uncertain again. The situation seemed to be getting complicated; she could only interrogate her son when they were alone.
The rest was simple: they went to the dormitory building and helped Peng Xiuzhi’s child settle in. There were truly more parents than students; the dorm rooms were so crowded there was barely space to stand.
And indeed, just as Peng Xiuzhi had said, Liu Banxia’s name was very effective here, a fact he hadn’t realized himself, which left him quite baffled.
"Secretary Liang, am I really that famous now?" Liu Banxia asked curiously as they walked towards the parking lot.
"Of course! Our Second Hospital is, after all, an affiliated hospital of the medical college. Which resident doctor is capable of conducting teaching surgeries? So many interns come to the Second Hospital; once they return and talk about it, everyone knows," Liang Xiaolin explained.
"Doctor Liang, is our Banxia really that capable now?" Peng Xiuqin asked.
"Auntie, please just call me Linlin. I’m currently interning under him. He’s truly amazing—the youngest attending surgeon and the youngest chief resident," Liang Xiaolin said with a smile. "Other doctors, even after finishing their standardized training, have to request permission from a senior physician if they want to lead a surgery. He doesn’t have to. Among the resident doctors in our hospital, only he has this privilege."
"Don’t listen to her exaggerate. There are many types of surgeries I haven’t even encountered yet; I can only perform some of the simpler ones," Liu Banxia hurriedly interjected.
Liang Xiaolin’s words made him blush. He was usually quite thick-skinned, but now he felt a bit embarrassed.
Liu Qingdong didn’t mind this; in fact, his mood became even more cheerful.
This trip hadn’t been in vain. Back home, he had no idea what his son’s work here was really like. Now he understood just how promising his son truly was. However, the task of spreading the news back home would have to be left to his second uncle; he couldn’t very well boast about his own son.
