Chapter 7: Chapter 7
His amber eyes looked questioning and I shrugged, "I've been fine I guess, but the valedictorian's talking." I pointed out.
"Oh come on, its not like you're really listening to Terra's bullshit." Daimen said with a knowing look. I glanced back to the girl speaking and frowned.
"See? Well I've been great, thanks for asking." Daimen said and I shot him a look.
"You know, you really shouldn't try to intimidate me with that little glare you got going on; it just makes you look sexy... and I don't think that's what you're going for. Or is it?" Daimen said with a smirk and my eyes widened before I looked away and the boy chuckled teasingly.
"Shut it Princeston." I muttered and the boy abruptly stopped laughing.
"Just because you know more about me from invading my privacy, doesn't mean I won't have my way, especially when it comes to you." Daimen pointed out and I frowned. I looked back at him and he was just lounging back in his chair.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked sharply and he gave a sinister smirk.
"It means I'll treat you just like anyone else who pisses me off." He said plainly.
"Are you threatening me?"
"Am I?" Daimen questioned back and I scowled.
"Fuck off." I said getting well over annoyed and turning my attention back to the stage.
"See. That pisses me off." He said in a irritated voice and I shrugged.
I really didn't want to deal with him.
When our row was said to stand and make our way to the stage the unthinkable happened.
I'd worn flats, so I wouldn't trip in heels... Well as I walked, one of the tarps that they'd laid out had come up some and my flat caught it. Thus I tripped, I would've fallen, but I didn't.
Steel hands gripped my hips and held me steady and my heart raced.
"Careful." Daimen huffed and let me go before turning back around and waltzing toward the stage. I shuddered and followed him.
How'd he know I was tripping, he's in front of me? My mind wondered.
"Daimen Princeston." The boy walked onto the stage at the mention of his name and his uncle looked proud as he got his diploma. The principal hugged his nephew who pulled away with an annoyed look, but a soft smile was faintly tugging at his lips.
"River Sparrow." I jolted at my name and walked onto the stage as Daimen got off. I got my diploma and the principal gave me a look as I shook his hand.
"Thank you." He said softly and I frowned.
"For?" I asked.
"You know." He said as he let go of my hand and I walked off of the stage as well, a little confused but feeling triumphant.
I'd graduated!
We went back to sit in our row.
"River." He hissed and I ignored him.
"River." He repeated and I bit my tongue.
"What is it?" I snapped in a whisper.
"Are you going to any afterparties?" He asked and I scowled.
"Why? And no." I said and he shrugged.
"You're such a square." He huffed and I frowned.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.
"You never go to parties." He said with a smirk.
"Whatever Daimen." I said rolling my eyes.
The boy chuckled softly.
"It's not my fault you don't." He said and I shot him a look.
"I do. Just because you're too busy stuffing your tongue into slut's mouths or starting fights to see me, that doesn't mean I don't go. Maybe you should start looking with your eyes and not your dick." I huffed in annoyance.
Daimen blinked and I looked away from him. It was true, at all the parties I'd gone to and seen Daimen he was either doing one or both of those things.
"Actually I am going to party tonight." I said and saw him glance at me.
"Nice to hear. Heard Trent's place is gonna be best to go to." Daimen said and I nodded. Trent Sanderson did throw spectacular parties.
The rest of the graduation ceremony Daimen and I sat next to each other not saying anything really.
And when the time came we got up, parted ways and left...
I walked down the sidewalk my feet trailing softly on the ground. God I was late to work.
The party from last night was a blur in my mind. I shouldn't have gone I realize that now. I sighed and checked my phone I was fifteen minutes late and not a soul was wandering the streets besides me, which if I'm being honest was strange.
"Hey you." A deep voice said causing me to pause. I turned slightly to see a boy in dark jeans and a black t shirt.
I couldn't help my body's reaction to him. Knees weakening, heart and head pounding; fear. He looked to be up to something. His eyes shown evilly and I gulped. I wasn't ready for another whatever he had in mind, I already had a headache.
He leaned against a STOP ALWAYS sign. I could see his veins gracing his arms and I rolled my eyes trying to ignore the fear inside. Yep, I was the only soul on these streets. He smirked at me and I started to walk away.
I didn't have time for this. I needed to get to work.
"I hope you aren't thinking of leaving party girl." The boy said in a rich voice.
I paused once more and turned around to face him. My head was faintly pounding from my hangover. I raised my eyebrows.
"I have a proposition for you." The boy said in his slick voice and I scowled. His dark brown hair was ruffled and his amber eyes stared at me. He smirked again.
"What do you mean?" I asked narrowing my eyes. He chuckled darkly. Typical Daimen, the badass nobody wants to fuck with yet it seemed like everybody fucked with him. He laughed and it's a taunting sound.
"What?" I ask crossing my arms over my chest. His smirk widened and he pushed himself off of the sign pole. He walked toward me with a permanent smug grin.
"I have a propos-" he started.
"Cut the bullshit Daimen. What the hell do you want?" I spat.
For a second he looked taken aback as if shocked by my interruption. In a flash his stunned expression was absorbed by his famous egotistic smirk. My foot tapped impatiently and I glared at him which seemed to only make him grin more.
"You." He said.
I looked at him with wide eyes and was about to say something when he chuckled. Why would he want me? We barely spoke and I'm pretty sure he hates everyone. Not that I blame him. People were jerks. But then again so was he.
"You should've seen your face. Okay though in all seriousness I got something you need to see. And just because you're a little hungover doesn't mean you get an attitude with me." He said tapping my head with his finger. I scoffed at him and pushed his hand away. He looked down at me and frowned.
"What are you taking about?" I snapped and he chuckled. It was scary.
"Don't you remember party girl? Last night? Aww did Ms. Drunk forget her little fiasco?" He said he made a mock concerned face. The look faded and he looked at me, taking out his phone and smirking evilly as he started going through it. I glared at him but couldn't help getting a little unnerved.
What did he have on me?
"Ahh here we are." He said starting to play a video. He gestured for me to watch. I looked over at his phone and my heart dropped. Dammit. There I was, drunkenly rambling. I eyed him suspiciously and started listening. He turned up the volume, a smirk playing on his face.
I shouldn't have drank. Every time I get too deep in my thoughts I have to distract myself. But now it seems to have caught up with me. I looked at the phone screen:
"Just shut the fuck up. You don't- you don't know me. Nobody knows me." I slurred. I held a bottle in my hand and I dropped it on the floor. Then I went to pick it up and I fell. I could hear Daimen's voice laughing and he put the phone back on me as I stumbled up and made a go at him with the now empty beer bottle. He laughed again and dodged out of my way and I watched as I threw the bottle at him and missed. The video ended.
Damn myself for getting shitfaced, I had no recollection of that night except me going and having a few drinks then nothing. Hell I'm surprised I even got home.
"Funny right? Be a shame if people saw." Daimen whispered to me with a smug grin. I stared dumbly at his phone and I couldn't find my voice to respond. No one could see that! It'd ruin me.
"Please don't show anyone." I said after clearing my tightening throat. My heart hammered in my chest as Daimen remained silent and slid his phone back into his pocket.
"Aww... I won't," I let out a naïve sigh of relief that stopped abruptly when Daimen lifted his hand and with a smirk he finished, "if you do something for me." He chuckled darkly and I swallowed. I looked at him and scowled.
He stepped closer and I shrank away.
"Gimme a kiss." I looked at him in shock. He chuckled. My tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth and I tried to calm the indignation boiling up in my chest.
"Come on it's not like it'll kill you. I won't bite, I swear." He finished with a smirk. I bit the inside of my cheek in anger.
I looked at him and started, "You're a fucking bastard." He shrugged and glanced at his phone in his pocket.
Suddenly he grabbed my shirt and pulled me against him, his free arm wrapping around my waist. He chuckled and put his chin on my head. I frowned in confusion as he pulled away.
"I know." He smirked and held out his hand. I looked at it in uncertainty and he grabbed my arm and pulled out a sharpie. Before I could object he started writing on my arm. He even drew a little heart beside it when he was done. I looked at him like he'd lost it. Written in giant black letters across my arm was:
I love D... aimen
He smirked and put his sharpie back wherever he got it from.
"What the hell?" I asked trying to rub it off. It wouldn't come off. I had short sleeves and no jacket, I couldn't hide this.
"Do you have something to get it off with?" I asked him and he shook his head.
I watched dumbfounded as he walked away and he didn't look back as he said loudly, "I'll see you when I see you Sparrow."
I watched him walk away then turned and slunk to work. I didn't know what to say. Hell I didn't even know what to do.
I just needed to get this off of my arm.
That was the last time, I thought, that I'd see Daimen.
