Chapter 2: Chapter 2
"This is the real world, fuck princes and perfect dates; hell no, here we thrive on our mistakes."
~me
River
I wandered down the hallway. People walked briskly around some going to class others loitering around waiting for something to happen. There were rumors going around that Asher Lincoln was going to fight Mike Walker.
Long story short they were both idiot jocks and if my guesses are correct they were going to be fighting over the queen bee -whore- Britney Nicole. I wonder what they'd think if they knew she was also screwing Jacob Anderson? But that's none of my business.
Anyways I went to my class. It was the lovely subject of Algebra. I walked in and sat in the back. Other kids flowed in and after a while the bell rang.
A stampede of teens rushed in and sat wherever acting like they weren't late and the teacher sighed and shook her head.
"River Sparrow how'd your appointment go yesterday?" Mrs. Lauren asked me and for a millisecond I was confused. Oh yeah my... Appointment.
"It was fine Miss sorry for missing your class." I was going to have to repeat that sentence many times today minus a word or two. I flashed my signature smile. She shook her head in dismissal and smiled softly.
"It's fine." She said and turned and started messing with things on her desk.
"Teacher's pet." Someone grumbled.
"I know right? That's what happens when you're the nerd kid who doesn't even talk half the time. Maybe you should try it." A girl snickered softly. I rolled my eyes and tapped my fingers on the desk.
"River?" Someone said and I turned to see a guy looking at me. I couldn't remember his name. Some jock that I didn't care about.
"Ryden, just leave her alone." Another guy said giving the jock a pointed look but he waved it away.
"Blake, shut up fag. Aye River." Ryden said and the boy Blake flipped him off before shaking his head and turning away.
"Hmm?" I responded quietly with a soft frown. He looked like he was up to something.
"Think fast!" He shouted as he hurled something at me. One side of me said to dodge it the other side said whatever just play it cool. Doing the second choice I just sat there and cringed a little as the thing hit me and landed on the floor. Luckily it was just a balled up piece of paper.
Thank Heavens it wasn't a condom. Someone did that once... Threw a used condom on a kid. It was revolting.... Poor girl, she moved schools afterwards. What was her name... Kira, I think?
I clenched my jaw and looked away. I sunk into my large hoodie and pushed my not so needed glasses up. Honestly I didn't need them at all but it was part of my wardrobe for today. Mama said the glasses would go nicely, how, I'm not sure. It was the perfect until people hit that stage when they need to pick on me. Now I had to deal with nuisances like the jocks and cheerleaders and just plain assholes and bitches of this school. I didn't really have friends here because I stuck to myself, but I guess that's just how it was.
My best friend April had moved away, after she was gone, I didn't really make an attempt at befriending others. Everyone was just too fake here.
"Oh my gosh you actually hit your target- if only you were that good in sports." I snapped lazily and then closed my mouth realizing that I just shot back at a jock.
"Oh she told you." Blake said with a snicker and Ryden threw a pencil which Blake effectively dodged.
"Shut up." Ryden said to Blake before turning his hard gaze on me.
"Just because you're a pretty mixed chick doesn't mean you can--"
"Are you seriously pulling a race card? Shut up Ryden before you get your ass beat." Josh a dark skinned jock growled from a few desks away from me. People grumbled in agreement.
The jock scoffed and looked utterly offended he paused before saying to me, "You don't know what you're talking about nerd. So just shut up before you get hurt." I tensed. Why's everyone calling me nerd? Oh the glasses, I assume.
"Ry-" Blake began.
"What are you gonna do, huh? Shut the fuck up you dickwad or you'll get hurt. It's too early for this bullshit." My blood chilled at the deep voice suddenly speaking. The class had gone silent. Everyone glanced to the door.
Suddenly my backpack was tossed back under my desk and I looked at Ryden in dumbfounding silence. I had no idea he'd grabbed my bag. I examined it, I didn't find anything wrong, before glancing back to the door.
There stood a tall muscular boy with dark brown maybe black hair. He was an admittedly good looking boy. His jawline was chiseled and right and his unusual amber eyes looked around with an unimpressed glint. He wore a black tank top and dark blue jeans. For a moment I was confused but then I recognized him.
"Daimen Princeston." He said gruffly and walked past the teacher. Mrs Lauren look surprised, but then her gaze hardened a little.
"Oh yes. Nice of you to finally come to class." Mrs Lauren said. I didn't miss the displeasure in her voice. I don't think anyone did.
"Ryden are you starting shit early today?" Daimen asked in a threatening, condescending voice and the jock looked at him with a sudden wariness.
"No." Was all Ryden said before looking at the top of his desk like a little kid being scolded by his parents.
"I didn't think so." Daimen said with a disgusted twinge to his voice.
The new coming boy didn't say anymore and came to sit in a seat... Right beside me. How was there still an empty seat at the back? He huffed and took out his phone and hurriedly started typing away. I was curious and looked over.
He caught me watching and turned a hard glare on me. I met his look and his eyes hardened and I looked hurriedly away.
I could feel his eyes burning holes in me and I shifted uncomfortably.
He huffed darkly and I shuddered. I heard him move a bit and then he sat back in his chair. I pushed up my glasses and tried to inch my desk unnoticeably further away from his.
Don't make eye contact, don't turn around. I kept telling myself as I sat there and tried to focus on the teacher who'd begun to talk.
The bell rang and I jumped in shock. Class was over already? I could still feel the boy staring and I shot up a prayer. Everyone rushed out of class leaving me and the bad boy. Yes, even the teacher had left.
I got up and made my way toward the door. Daimen stood as well and walked over to me.
"So what did you do to Ryden?" He asked and I looked at him in shock.
"Nothing. He threw some paper at me and I called him out... why?" I said and Daimen popped his neck before stretching his shoulders.
"Just wondering." He said and I went to walk away.
"Wait." He said grabbing my arm and I froze.
"Yes?" I said hesitantly and he let me go. He shoved his hands down into his pockets.
"You have some paper in your hair. I'd get it out if I were you, it looks a mess." He deadpanned with a bored look and I nodded slowly before retrieving the paper out.
"Err thanks well I've gotta go." I said and hurried out of the classroom.
As I left the class in such a rush I kicked the door on complete accident and it swung closed... but someone happened to be standing there leaving as well.
I tensed up as I heard the door come in crashing contact with Daimen and I looked back toward the class to find him opening the door wide to reveal a bloody nose and homicidal eyes. I hadn't meant to slam it! My blood instantly went cold and I slowly started to back away.
"Don't you run." He hissed, but I was already turning to go. I heard him take a step toward me and I pelted off like my life depended on it because knowing him, it did.
I whizzed past the lockers and dodged people as they stood around or walked to slow in the hallway.
"Someone get Mr. Princeston!"
"River!" I jumped and picked up my pace as I heard the crazy psychopath yell my name. My foot suddenly got caught and I nearly fell, but unlike the dumb bimbos of a horror movie I kept my balance and sped off.
"I swear to God, I'm going to kill you!" The guy yelled again and I bit the inside of my cheek.
Okay River just keep running, don't focus on him, you'll get out. I told myself but I was starting to lose stride.
The sound of approaching footsteps made my stomach churn with sick anticipation.
I glanced over my shoulder. My heart leapt to my throat when I realized the guy was only a few yards behind me. I took in his angry squinted eyes and the veins protruding in his neck. By then everyone had disappeared trying to get away from Daimen's wrath.
"Look Daimen we can work this out. It was an accident!" I yelled back as I ran.
"I'm going to rip your eyes out and shove them down your throat!" He shouted and my stomach flipped.
Did he have to be so graphic?
"Hey, we can work this out, you actually look better now, scarier. You like looking scary right? Well now you look even more threatening!" I rambled and he yelled in frustration.
"RIVER!" He bellowed and I continued my dwindling run.
He was almost to me.
I didn't know what to do so I went into opossum mode. I flung myself to the ground and covered my head. But Daimen was so close that he tripped over my now body on the ground. He landed with a loud thud a good way away from me and his head hit the ground.
I scrambled to my feet and part of me froze. I was a compassionate person and right now was torn between the decision to run or help him.
"Are you okay?" I asked and he grunted and looked at me with a horrendous glare.
"You're so dead." He growled and I gulped as he began to stand. My feet instantly began working again and I ran off.
"Stop running you bitch!" Daimen yelled and I felt tears pricking my eyes.
Oh lord I'm going to die today. I haven't even done anything yet! God help me.
I yelped as rough hands gripped my waist and I was dragged into a hard body. I'm pretty sure I could've peed myself.
"Don't try anything." He growled and I squirmed against him.
"Let me go!" I yelled and he clamped a hand over my mouth. I gave a muffled yelp as he put an arm over my shoulder and forced me into a janitors closet.
He slammed the door shut and pushed me into a shelf. I let out a cry and he gave me a deadly look.
"So you think you can do shit like that and get away with it?" Daimen spat and I frantically shook my head back and forth.
"I-it was an accident. The door caught on my foot and shut I didn't realize you were right there." I said quickly and he put out his hand in a gesture for me to shut my mouth.
"You slammed the damn door in my face and see what you did? You little bitch." He spat and I looked at him.
Apart from him looking like he wanted to murder me in the worst possible way... His sharp features were godlike.
Daimen Princeston was a delinquent. But not just any delinquent. He was the kid that made even the biggest jock cower at his feet. Even the teachers feared him. One year he made a kid faint because he yelled at her. There was just an aura of death that hung about him. He was like the Reaper himself. Daimen felt nothing, feared nothing. He was more of an animal than human. And I'd incidentally awakened the beast.
I stared at the bloody cut on his nose. My not so honorable piece of art that happened to come about accidentally. Of course Daimen didn't think so though. I looked at the trail of blood from his nose to his chin and shuddered.
"It was an acc--"
"Say it again and I'm ripping your tongue out bitch." He spat and I looked at the ground in fright. I'm surprised I haven't died from a heart attack.
"I'm sorry?" I said hopefully.
"You say that like its a question." He said and his voice sent chills up my spine. I gulped as his right hand gripped my jaw with rough fingers.
"I'm really sorry." I whimpered and he suddenly began squeezing my jaw and I groaned in pain. I tried to squirm out of his grasp but he only huffed and pressed me harder into the shelf.
"Don't do something you'll regret." He said and I frowned and tried to free my jaw at least.
"Let go." I gasped trying not to cry at the pain. Tears were trying so hard to escape from my eyes but I held them at bay.
"Shut up." Daimen hissed and let my jaw go. I groaned and rubbed my law softly as I tried to rid myself of some of the pain.
I gasped as he suddenly grabbed my throat and pulled me toward him. He stared into my eyes and squeezed harder.
"I'm only going to say this once... Don't piss me off." He said and I wanted to scream but I couldn't.
This wasn't him pissed off?
"I didn't mean to." I wheezed out and Daimen frowned.
"Shut up." He said squeezing my throat even harder and I left my windpipe closing until it was shut. I tried to suck in a breath but nothing came so I scratched at his hand. He stared into my eyes and I tried to break free.
The world started to get blurry and I felt tears slipping from my eyes. I pushed against his unmoving form as everything started to go dark and my knees buckled. The last thing I would've seen was Daimen's dark eyes.
"Daimem stop." A deep voice said.
God, is that you?
His hand finally let go of my throat and I fell to the ground gasping for breath.
I glanced over to see Mr. Princeston the school principal staring at us with wide eyes. He glanced from me to Daimen before clearing his throat. I sat groggily up and leaned against the wall.
I almost wanted to cry with relief. Mr. Princeston would save me. He was one of the nicest principals we'd had. He was lovable and made corny jokes that you couldn't help but laugh at. His demeanor made him a great person to be around, from what I'd observed. He was also Daimen's uncle. His sharp eyes raked Daimen and he grimaced.
"What the fuck do you want?" Daimen snapped and the principal blinked before frowning.
"Daimen calm down." Mr. Princeston said with a commanding glare and I watched through unfocussing eyes.
Daimen turned and met the man roughly.
"Shut up!" Daimen said loudly and Mr. Princeston suddenly didn't look like the nice principal everyone knew.
"Do not raise your voice with me! Now I told your father I'd look after you and that's what I intend to do, but this," Mr. Princeston pointed at me, "is unacceptable! Now you're going to apologize and hopefully I can talk to her before she decides to press charges!" The man finished with a huff and I blinked. They stared each other down and I could see the striking family resemblance. When Daimen only stood there the older man scowled and took a step toward him with a violent gesture of his hand for Daimen to do what he'd said. The boy scoffed.
Daimen turned to me with a sneer and crouched down so he was level to me. I scooted away but he grabbed my shoulders and held me still. I flinched slightly as he leaned closer and his dark eyes captured mine.
"Are you gonna tell the cops?" Daimen said with a frown and one of his fingers hooked under my chin and forced my head up. My blood chilled and I shuddered.
"No." I whispered and he let me go and stood with a slight smirk.
"There, she won't tell, problem solved." Daimen said through gritted teeth the left the room with a slam of the door.
Mr. Princeston opened the door and yelled, "That's not an apology!" after the would-be killer. But it was too late, Daimen was gone.
