The Demon with Holy Radiance Chapter 62
"Martial Nephew, you know them?"
Jing Yan Daoist glanced from Pan Shi to Yang An and asked in confusion.
He was the elder of the group, the man Pan Shi had called Martial Uncle.
He had just received a report from a disciple that a member of their sect had been murdered. The body was in a ruined temple at the edge of Sansong Mountain, and he had come personally with a group to investigate.
Hearing Jing Yan Daoist’s question, Pan Shi quickly smiled and replied:
"Martial Uncle, this is a fellow Daoist I met on the road to the Xiyue River. Fellow Daoist Yang helped my junior sister and me a great deal."
"Fellow Daoist Yang? Didn’t he just say his name was Mu’an?"
Before Jing Yan Daoist could even speak, a young man beside him immediately retorted.
He was Jing Yan Daoist’s Direct Disciple, and his name was Ji Zhou.
That was right. He had just said his name was Mu’an, and the woman beside him was called Ying Wen.
Instantly, everyone from Sansong Mountain turned to stare at Yang An and Wen Yin.
Even Pan Shi looked at Yang An in confusion, wondering why he would hide his real name.
"Well... when you’re traveling, it’s best to be cautious, you know? HAHAHA, please forgive me. My apologies."
Yang An explained awkwardly.
’How could I have known Senior Sister would bring me all the way to Sansong Mountain?’
’And who would have thought that Pan Shi wouldn’t show up a moment sooner or a moment later, but pop up right after I gave a fake name.’
’It was all such a coincidence; there was nothing I could do.’
Fortunately, Jing Yan Daoist seemed to be an understanding person. He nodded after hearing Yang An’s explanation.
It was understandable.
"Since you are a friend of my Martial Nephew, Pan Shi, please come and rest at Sansong Mountain. Allow us to show you proper hospitality."
Hearing the elder’s words, Yang An breathed an inward sigh of relief.
’It’s best that they didn’t press the issue. Now that we know where we are, we can get back on the road.’
’But when I think about how we’ve ended up in Dingzhou, even farther from Yulan City... it’s just a huge pain in the ass.’
"Thank you, Senior. My senior sister and I have urgent business, so we won’t impose. We will certainly visit in the future if we have the chance."
Yang An cupped his fist at the group and politely declined the elder’s invitation.
"Until we meet again."
With that said, he planned to grab Senior Sister Wen Yin and make a quick exit. He still had to figure out how to get back to Han State and then head to Yulan City.
But just as he thought they were free to go, Ji Zhou, who was standing beside Jing Yan Daoist, suddenly raised a hand.
"Hold it!"
Ji Zhou quickly turned to Jing Yan Daoist, his master.
"Master, we can’t let them leave!
A junior brother just reported that one of our disciples got into trouble here, and we happen to find these two acting suspiciously on the scene.
What if they’re involved? Wouldn’t that mean we let the culprits get away?"
"Besides, they just deliberately concealed their identities. If Senior Brother Pan hadn’t arrived, we all would have been fooled.
In my opinion, these two are highly suspicious! We absolutely cannot let them leave just like this!"
Ji Zhou shouted and raised a hand to stop Yang An, who was about to leave, then lowered his voice to whisper to Jing Yan Daoist.
But everyone present was a Cultivator with exceptionally keen senses. Even from a distance, Yang An could still hear every word he said.
Yang An immediately knew this was trouble.
’Just what I was afraid of.’
A moment ago, while they were still some distance from the ruined temple, he and Senior Sister Wen Yin had sensed that something was wrong.
That was precisely why they had decided to leave as quickly as possible—to avoid getting dragged into any trouble.
But he hadn’t expected to be suspected by the people from Sansong Mountain simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
But now that they were under suspicion, Yang An knew he couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.
"Senior, my senior sister and I were truly just passing by.
A moment ago, we were passing by and sensed that something might have happened here.
To avoid getting involved, we tried to leave as quickly as possible, which is when we ran into you."
’Of course I have to explain. We didn’t do it, and I’m not about to take the fall for something I had nothing to do with.’
A hint of doubt appeared on Jing Yan Daoist’s face.
But Ji Zhou chose to press on with his questioning, no longer lowering his voice.
"Then why did you two hide your identities and deceive us? How do you explain that, Fellow Daoist?"
’Is this guy an idiot?’ Yang An thought, staring at him.
’I literally just explained that it was a precaution for traveling, and he’s still asking the same question.’
’So he’s just determined not to let us leave, is that it?’
"Junior Brother Ji Zhou, don’t make baseless accusations against Fellow Daoist Yang. I know his character well. He would never do something like that."
At the side, Pan Shi had finally pieced together what was happening. He shot Ji Zhou a displeased look and spoke up.
Within the sect, Ji Zhou had never gotten along with him, and they often bickered over trivial matters.
Pan Shi could see right through Ji Zhou. While it was true that Fellow Daoist Yang’s presence was suspicious, Ji Zhou’s accusations were more than just doubt. He was deliberately targeting Yang An, likely because of his own connection to him.
Pan Shi was a straightforward person by nature, and he grew angry, immediately coming to Yang An’s defense.
But Ji Zhou was unmoved, instead letting out a cold sneer.
"Heh. You might know this ’fellow Daoist’s’ character, Senior Brother Pan, but we don’t. That’s just your side of the story.
We’ll certainly investigate whether his words are true or not, but for now, we absolutely cannot let them leave!"
"You...!"
Veins bulged on Pan Shi’s forehead as he glared furiously at Ji Zhou.
But just then, Wen Yin, who had been standing silently beside Yang An the entire time, let out a cold snort, her expression turning icy.
"This has nothing to do with us. Whether you believe it or not is your problem.
We’re leaving now. If you insist on stopping us, you’ll have to bear the consequences!"
Everyone stared at Wen Yin in astonishment at her words. Such arrogance!
’So badass, Senior Sister!’
Yang An glanced at Wen Yin, also surprised, and gave her a mental thumbs-up.
’As expected of the old man’s disciple.’
’If Senior Sister Wen Yin dares to talk like that, she must have the power to back it up and not care about these people. What do I have to be afraid of, then?’
Senior Sister Wen Yin’s words gave Yang An all the confidence he needed.
’Screw explaining! We’re just leaving!’
Yang An immediately cupped his fist toward Pan Shi.
"Fellow Daoist Pan, and you, Senior. I’ve already explained that this has nothing to do with us.
My senior sister and I have urgent business and must leave now. So farewell, and we will certainly visit in the future if we have the chance!"
With that, Yang An prepared to leave this place of trouble with Wen Yin.
To prevent Senior Sister Wen Yin from going the wrong way again, he gritted his teeth. ’To hell with the embarrassment.’
He simply grabbed Wen Yin’s arm and started to lead her away.
But just then, that pest Ji Zhou shot out again and blocked their path.
"Stop! Until we’ve investigated this thoroughly, you can’t..."
But before he could finish, his voice cut off abruptly.
His body began to convulse violently, his limbs twisting in unnatural, bizarre directions.
Red beads of blood even began to ooze from his skin, and his face contorted in agony.
Yang An whipped his head toward Senior Sister Wen Yin. Her face was a mask of killing intent as she stared at Ji Zhou, thoroughly enraged.
In her eyes, countless red veins pulsed and intertwined like writhing worms.
"Master... save me..."
"Stop!"
