The Demon with Holy Radiance Chapter 33
The towering flames lasted for two breaths before quickly dying down, leaving only a few lingering embers.
Yang An gasped for air. The Lighting Technique he had cast upon himself couldn’t burn him, at least not in a short period.
So, while he appeared to be at the center of the blaze, he was not actually being scorched.
Instead, because he had ignited all of his own wounds, the rapid blood loss had left him in his weakest state yet.
He didn’t have a shred of strength left, as if he had been completely drained.
Black stains left by the scorched blood made him look a mess, like a corpse caked in black mud.
Although the flames had instantly destroyed the Glue Insect Child crushing him, his situation was still far from optimistic.
At least half of the surrounding Glue Insect Child were unharmed. They watched him menacingly, ready to pounce again at any moment.
Yang An summoned all his strength, trying to get up from the ground, but found it difficult to even move a finger.
Hooo...
He let out a long breath and finally gave up the struggle.
’Come on! Bring it on!’
’Come and get me!’
The remaining Glue Insect Child observed him for a moment. Confirming that Yang An was no longer capable of resistance, they swarmed forward, pouncing on him once more.
A foul stench washed over him. Yang An simply closed his eyes. ’It’s come to this, anyway. What else can I do but lie here?’
But just then...
CLAP! CLAP!
A loud clapping sound echoed in the darkness.
The Glue Insect Child that had been pouncing on Yang An again all vanished without a trace in an instant.
"How dull!"
He Tou shot a vicious glare at Mother Divination True Master. It knew Elder Life Crane had deliberately had her stop things there.
Yang An was bracing for death, thinking, ’This is the end for me.’ But nothing happened.
When he opened his eyes again, Elder Life Crane had appeared before him at some point. With a benevolent and kindly face, he was squinting down at Yang An.
Yang An couldn’t say a word. He was on the verge of death, able only to stare helplessly at Elder Life Crane.
’What does this old bastard want now?’
"Tsk, tsk. Is that all you’ve got? So fragile!"
He Tou emerged from the side, making scornful remarks.
"Not bad, but not enough."
Elder Life Crane said with a faint smile, then reached out with a withered, ancient hand and, as Yang An watched, slowly touched his chest.
His dark fingernails, like the claws of a beast, gently pried open a wound on Yang An’s chest.
Though Yang An couldn’t move, a sudden, terrible premonition rose in his heart.
VWOOM!
In the next moment, Yang An was once again engulfed, devoured by towering flames!
The endless crimson fire seemed intent on wringing every last drop of blood from his body, leaving nothing behind.
Yang An’s eyes flew wide. He never expected the old bastard would pull a stunt like this right before he died.
That Demon-like smile seemed to pierce through the flames and burn itself directly into Yang An’s mind.
’FU—CK—YOU!’
Yang An trembled, mustering his last ounce of strength to glare malevolently at Elder Life Crane through the fire, letting out a silent scream.
He Tou began to cackle, a sharp and strange laugh, as if it was overjoyed to see this.
Like a final, fleeting burst of life, the flames lasted only two breaths before being extinguished. But Yang An’s consciousness had completely faded into a blur, leaving him just one step from death.
He was now like a desiccated corpse, completely drained, as if he might crumble to dust at any moment.
But just then, Elder Life Crane’s delighted laughter reached his ears.
"A mortal who can endure the Lighting Technique for so long and still maintain his sanity... even I have never seen such a thing! This Child is truly extraordinary!"
"It seems I’ve finally found a satisfactory disciple! Haha!"
The threshold for learning the Lighting Technique was low; anyone could master it. But that didn’t mean everyone was qualified to use it.
Those with weak minds might fall into complete madness after just one use.
Even those with strong wills would quickly descend into insanity after consuming too much of their own blood, ultimately suffering a backlash from the Lighting Technique.
This was precisely why Elder Life Crane had deliberately spread the Lighting Technique.
Only by remaining sane under the influence of the Lighting Technique for a sufficient length of time could one qualify to become his disciple and receive his inheritance.
But Yang An had not only been unaffected from beginning to end; even when his body had been completely drained of blood, he had still managed to keep his sanity intact.
In all his years, he was the only person Elder Life Crane had ever seen who could achieve such a feat!
He was, without a doubt, the most suitable person to cultivate the legacy of the Life Crane Sect!
"..."
Yang An lay silently on the ground. Though he heard Elder Life Crane’s words, he couldn’t feel the slightest bit of happiness.
Because he was about to die!
If he had the strength to speak right now, he would have used every last bit of it to demand of the old bastard before him:
’If you don’t save me soon, my body will be cold! Do you want a dead disciple?!’
Perhaps Elder Life Crane sensed the urgency in Yang An’s heart. He chuckled, then turned to Mother Divination True Master at his side.
"Mother Divination, lend me a couple of your eggs!"
Without waiting for Mother Divination True Master to agree, a pained grunt suddenly escaped her lips.
The next moment, two Meat Eggs, still streaked with blood, appeared in Elder Life Crane’s hand.
He crushed the Meat Eggs, and the golden-yellow liquid fell directly into Yang An’s mouth.
Yang An felt a warmth spread through his mouth, as if he were being fed a hot, viscous bone broth, accompanied by a strange fragrance he had never smelled before.
The warmth entered through his mouth and quickly flowed through his limbs and bones, seeming to fill his entire body in an instant.
It was like someone who had been freezing in a blizzard for three days and three nights suddenly stepping into a warm, climate-controlled room.
An unknown amount of time passed.
HAAAH—
With a heaving chest and the clear beat of his Heart, Yang An took a sharp breath and sat bolt upright.
He gulped down the seemingly foul air of the darkness, his mind snapping back to full clarity. The desperate feeling of imminent suffocation was finally gone, no longer to be felt.
He looked down at himself. His clothes were riddled with holes, but the wounds on his body had all vanished, healed as if they had never been there.
Yang An felt that his current state was more wonderful than ever before. He was filled with inexhaustible strength, his spirit overflowing with energy.
"Congratulations, Elder Life Crane, on accepting a fine disciple!"
Mother Divination True Master’s opportunistic compliment came from the side.
Only then did Yang An belatedly raise his head to look at the figure standing before him, at that face that still wore a benevolent and kindly expression.
Beside them, He Tou’s gaze seemed to say, ’What a pity.’
"This kid looks like he’s been stunned stupid. How about you let me eat him?"
"..."
Hearing this, Yang An felt that if he didn’t do something, He Tou really might eat him.
He immediately scrambled up from the ground, then dropped to his knees, kowtowing to the figure before him.
"Disciple pays his respects to Master!"
Seeing Yang An’s swift actions, Elder Life Crane laughed heartily, deeply gratified.
For a moment, the air seemed to be filled with a cheerful atmosphere.
