Chapter 7: Chapter 7

Chapter 7 Caught

MAIA'S POV

'Maia, I think you are pregnant.' Avi said.

It all came down on me. Flashbacks of that night came back in my head.

If my calculations were right, and I have been here for a month already, that means I have missed my period.

Ever since Avi told me her suspicions, I had been at war with myself and also with Avi.

'I can't do this, Avi. How am I supposed to take care of a human being? I can barely take care of myself.' I told Avi.

'Are you seriously thinking of killing your unborn child? Have you really lost your mind?' she asked.

'Avi! Look around. We are in who knows where! Do you even think that we have a chance of surviving or escaping out of here?' I spat.

I sat on the bed as I processed all the things that had happened from the day I turned 18.

'I'm sure that if I jump from here, there is no way I would still make it. This way, the baby won't have to suffer the evilness of this life.' I said in a sad voice.

'Maia, don't give up now. That baby should give you enough reason to fight for your life and your freedom. Have mercy on that unborn child.' Avi said.

After giving it much thought, I knew what I had to do.

'We need to get out of here, Avi. If I'm really pregnant, this child deserves to live in a safe environment.' I said.

'Do you remember anything from when you escaped the first time?' Avi asked.

'I already told you I wasn't trying to escape. I was looking for answers.' I exclaimed.

'It doesn't matter, Maia. It's the same thing. Now, focus. Do you remember the way?' she asked.

'There is an elevator at the end of the hallway. There are also stairs, but we are way up at the top. It took one forever to reach whatever floor it was they caught me on.' I replied.

'That was because you didn't have me. You were too weak to even walk when you tried to escape. Of course, you will get caught.' she said.

For the next couple of hours, Avi and I planned on how we would escape from this castle. We decided to take the stairs instead of the elevator. It would be less risky, and we can even hide or prepare for any attack, just in case. Our only problem was how to mask our scent.

'We are just going to be extra careful and prepared.' Avi said.

As Avi suggested, we would escape at night. The darkness would be our cloak.

I tried to get some sleep while waiting for Avi's go signal. The fear of getting caught and the possibility of getting killed were eating me up. Ever since Avi told me I might be pregnant, it was like the child gave me hope. The small hope that I had was what pushed me to escape.

It filled my mind with pictures and scenarios of what life would be as a mother.

"I promise I will do everything to protect you. I will let no one hurt you. Once you grow up, we will go to all the places my mom used to bring me. We will travel the world together. It's going to be you, Avi, and I against the world. I promise you we will have the best times together." I said to myself while rubbing my belly.

The sound of the door opening pulled me back to my reality.

"Is there something wrong with the food? Or if you have anything that you prefer, please let me know. You have touched none of your meals. This will not please King Alpha." she said, putting down the tray of food for my dinner.

I did not answer her question. Instead, I went by the window and looked at the moon.

"Please, Maia." she begged.

"You can just leave the food there. I'll eat it later." I lied.

I needed to get her to leave. The only way to do that was to tell her I would eat the food. It scared me that if she stayed in the room any longer, she might figure out about the baby. Although there are no heartbeats yet, I just couldn't risk it.

She smiled at me before taking my untouched food for lunch.

I let out a sigh of relief once she went.

'You should try the food. You're going to need extra energy for later. Just try it.' Avi suggested.

'Okay.' I replied.

I went to the table and inspected the food on the tray, which was mashed potatoes and chicken. Mashed potatoes were not my thing. Somehow, I was already expecting to throw up as soon as I tried the mashed potatoes. I did not. In fact, I even finished the whole bowl of mashed potatoes.

'Now, I'm more sure of it. You are definitely pregnant. You just finished a whole bowl of mashed potatoes.' Avi said.

I rolled my eyes and continued eating. Once I finished, I got ready for our escape mission.

'Are you ready, Avi?' l asked, my hands on the doorknob.

'I was born ready, bitch. Let's go!' She exclaimed.

I carefully opened the door and peeked.

'That girl wasn't really lying.' Avi commented.

'Doesn't matter. What we need to do is focus on getting out of here. ALIVE.' I replied, touching my belly.

I took a deep breath before going down the stairs. Avi and I were both on high alert as we navigated through the flight of stairs.

'How far do these stairs go, Maia? This is already the 15th floor from where we came from,' she asked with a slight complaint.

'I don't know, Avi. Just like I told you, the last time I was out, I only reached ten floors.' I replied, looking at my right and left before running to the other side of the stairs.

I stopped for a second when I heard footsteps from the floor I was just on. I carefully tiptoed down the stairs while checking if they had already passed.

I almost let out a sigh of relief when the sound of footsteps was no longer heard. Unfortunately, my back hit a brick wall that electrified me. It was already too late when I realized that the brick wall was not a wall after all.

"Where do you think you are going?" A husky voice asked.

I did not need to turn around to know who it came from.

'His voice is so sexy. I just want to jump on his bones right now.' Avi said.

'Really, Avi? What about escaping?' I asked.

Before she could even reply, he turned me around, so that I was facing him.

"I asked you a question. Where do you think you are going?" he asked again.

This time, his voice wasn't sexy anymore. It was more like with more authority.

Him holding me by my arms was sending me many feelings. My head and my body were at war. By the time I could regain control of myself, he was already dragging me to the elevator.

'Damn it, Avi!' I cursed.

Even though I could feel the sparks in my arms, I was still mad at the fact that we had just lost our chance of escaping.

"Do you really have a death wish?" Lucius asked.

"Please let me go. I promise to never tell a single soul that you are my mate. If it makes you feel any better, you can reject me before I go. Just please let me go." I begged.

I knew that scoping from this castle was going to be tough. If I had to sacrifice the mate bond so that I can save my unborn child, I would.

"No! You are not leaving this castle!" he growled.

I kneeled in front of him as I begged.

"What do I have to do for you to let me go? I already told you I do not know about the people who wanted to hurt you. If you will not kill me, then why are you keeping me here?" I asked.

Without even saying a word, he left the room and locked the door.

I felt my heart shatter into pieces as I sat on the floor, crying.
