Chapter 26: Chapter 26

Chapter 26 Saving Me

MAIA'S POV

"When is she going to wake up?" I heard a voice that sounded like Lucius' asked.

"It's hard to say, King Alpha. We tried to remove as much poison as possible, but the rest will be up to her and her body." the doctor, I'm assuming, replied.

"What do you mean as much poison as possible? I thought you removed it all?" Lucius asked.

"By the time we started the extraction, there were already some that reached her system. We can only take this much from her blood. If we took more, she would have drained out of the blood." the doctor replied.

"How long will it take for her body to get it out of her system completely, then?" he asked.

"I am afraid I don't know, King Alpha." the doctor replied.

I wanted to tell them that I was awake and that I was okay, but I couldn't even open my eyes. I was trying so hard, but it's like there was a tape on my eyelids or something that was stopping them from being opened.

'Avi? Are you there?' I asked through the mind-link.

I got no response from her.

'Avi, wake up!' I exclaimed, hoping to gain her attention.

A few seconds passed, and there were still no replies from her. I was panicking when I heard a familiar beeping sound.

'Wait! Is that the machine connected to me? Why can I see myself? What the hell?' I asked myself.

Suddenly, the machines connected to my other self were beeping loudly. As I looked around, I could see the pack doctor panicking and Lucius growling at her.

"What is happening?"Lucius growled, frightening the pack doctor.

I ran over to the other side of the bed and yelled at the doctor.

"Doctor, what's going on? Doctor!" I yelled.

Nobody seemed to hear or see me.

Did that mean that I was dead?!

I ran over to Lucius and tried to touch him. My hands kept going through his body.

I cried in fear when I couldn't feel the sparks between us anymore.

A couple of minutes later, Neal came dashing into the room. He held Lucius while the doctor was trying to fix me, or whatever it was that she was trying to do.

I ran to Neal and Lucius with the hope that Neal would see me. To my dismay, none of them could see me or hear me.

With a broken heart, I went over to my body and watched as the doctor tried bringing me back.

"Doctor, please help me. Bring me back. I'm scared and I don't know where I am." I begged even though I know that she couldn't hear me.

I cried as I watched her and the other nurses who just arrived do everything to bring me back.

The whole room was in chaos. Neal was at the other corner of the room, trying to hold Lucius off from storming to my body. The doctor and the nurses were getting the defibrillator ready to resuscitate me.

After I don't know how many hours or minutes have passed, the chaos dies down.

"She's back. She's alive. We got a pulse." the doctor exclaimed, causing everyone to stop for a moment and breathe.

Lucius did not waste any time. He ran to the bed where I was and shooed everyone away. He hugged me as he let out a sigh of relief.

"Don't do that again, please. Don't you dare die on me. I need you," he whispered.

Although it was a whisper, I still heard it as if he whispered them directly to my ears.

Being on this other side of the world was scary, but at the same time, it was an eye-opener. I was able to see the raw emotions of Lucius.

My train of thought and appreciation was interrupted when I heard Lucius went off at the doctor.

"What the hell just happened?" he growled, stalking the doctor like a prey.

Neal was quick to react and stopped Lucius from doing any further damage.

The doctor gulped and took a deep breath before she answered.

"The poison that affected her body is becoming too strong for her to handle. She will crash again unless we miraculously find an antidote." She said.

"Then where the hell do we find the antidote?!" Lucius yelled.

"There is no antidote I'm afraid." She answered.

"So you're telling me that my mate is dying and there is no cure to save her?!" he growled.

"Unless....." Neal trailed off.

The whole room stared at him as we all waited for him to continue.

"Unless?" Lucius asked impatiently.

"Unless you mark her. Since you have King Alpha blood, your blood will be strong enough to fight the poison. Is that right, Doctor?" Neal said, asking the doctor to confirm his theory.

I looked at the doctor as she thought about it.

"We can check. If we draw some blood from her and then add King Alpha's blood, we will be able to see how his blood will react to the poison." the doctor explained.

"Then what the hell are you all standing here for?" Lucius shouted, causing the nurses and the doctor to scram.

In a matter of seconds, they got everything they needed prepared. While the doctor was drawing blood from my body, as per Lucius' request, no other person would touch me except the doctor, another male-wolf nurse was drawing blood from him.

Once they had both blood, the doctor tested Neal's theory. I was standing there, watching everything unfold as I silently prayed for it to work.

"Theoretically, it will work. Scientifically, I am not sure." the doctor exclaimed.

"What do you mean?" Lucius asked.

"I tested both your drops of blood, and it worked perfectly fine. Unfortunately, I can't say it would work the same when it is in her body. What I'm trying to say is that your blood will cure the poison in her body, but that does not mean her body might not reject your blood in her system. This can become worse if her body rejects your blood as soon as it enters her system." the doctor explained.

Lucius stared at my body with a heavy heart. His eyes were filled with so much fear and sadness that I have never seen before. He was breathing heavily as if he was trying to control himself from shifting.

"Let's do it," he said.

I wasn't sure if I felt my world fall apart because he was trying to save me or was it because of the risk that he was going to take.

"Lucius, are you sure about this? I mean, even if this works, how are you going to explain to Maia about you marking her?" Neal asked.

"I have to try, Neal. I can't just sit here and watch my mate die. When this works and it will work because it has to work, I will accept whatever it is that she would want. Even if she requests to leave or reject me, I will let her do so as long as I know that she is alive." Lucius replied.

At that moment, I wanted to hug him and thank him. I wanted to let him know that I appreciate his effort to save me. Instead, I stood there beside him with tears falling down my face.

"Okay," Neal said.

Neal instructed the doctor and the nurses to leave the room to give Lucius some privacy while marking me. He patted Lucius on the back before leaving the room.

"Maia, I know that I have a lot of shortcomings. I do and I am so sorry. I am apologetic because you ended up having a useless mate like me. Please know that I am only doing this to save you. I will never do anything against your will. Even though I know that when you wake up, you might reject me and leave me, it's okay. It's fine as long as you are alive and well. So please stay strong for me and fight." he said.

His voice was breaking, and he had tears running down his face. He caressed my face and kissed me on the forehead. After wiping his tears, he took a deep breath and slowly moved my head to the side to give him enough room to access the place where he would be marking me.

I watched with tears falling down my face as he marked me, saving me from death.
