Chapter 23: Chapter 23
I WOKE up with Adam sleeping next to me. I bit my lower lip as I slowly turned my face to him. I didn't want to wake him up.
This was the first time we had sex in my bed.
I pursed my lips as I stared at his face that was only inches away from mine. He's got long and thick lashes. His forehead was slightly creased in sleep.
There were already some little stubbles growing on his face. And he looked more handsome in that.
I realized that I really did miss him. After what happened last night, it was pretty obvious that we really did miss each other. The way he kissed and touched me last night proved how much we were sexually attracted to each other.
I looked away when Adam moved a bit. My eyes then went to the nightstand. It was already eight in the morning.
I didn't have any idea what time we slept last night. I was already wearing an overshirt and a white shirt. Adam put that on me last night before we finally got to sleep.
I felt Adam's arms snake over my body. I pursed my lips and turned my head to him again. I was welcomed by his handsome morning face. He was already awake.
“Good morning...” Adam lazily smiled at me. Damn. His voice was so husky and sexy in the morning. His messy hair just made him look hotter in my eyes.
I cleared my throat and smiled at him. “Good morning. Come on, let's get up. Remove your hand from me." I pursed my lips as I looked at his tattooed arm on my waist.
But instead of following me, Adam just smiled before he buried his head in my neck. “Come on. Let's sleep some more,” he murmured in my neck. I could feel his hot breath on my skin. "It's the weekend, anyway."
Well, what he was saying was tempting. Being with him in bed felt so good. I wanted to stay here with him until noon. But then my stomach was saying otherwise. And I knew I had to prioritize it because I have another being inside of me.
“But I'm already hungry, Adam...”
"Oh." He immediately pulled away from me. "What time is it?" he asked, looking at me.
"Eight."
His forehead creased a little. "You should've woken me up sooner."
I pursed my lips. "Don't worry about it. I just woke up minutes before you."
He ran his fingers through his messy hair. "Alright. I'll go and cook breakfast.”
Adam was about to get up but I stopped him. "I can do it. Just stay here in bed for a while. I know you're still probably jetlagged."
The crease in his forehead deepened. "But you don't know how to cook, right?"
I pursed my lips, fighting myself from rolling my eyes. "Well, more than two months have already passed since we spent that weekend on the island. I already know how to cook some simple dishes now."
"Really?" His lips curled up in an amused smile. "Can you tell me what those dishes are?"
I cleared my throat and slightly raised my eyebrows. "Well, I can cook perfectly sunny side up eggs now. I can make roasted chicken and a perfect steak with a mashed potato on the side."
"Hmm, that's impressive," he said, his eyes dancing in amusement.
I raised my brows. "Why do I feel like you wanted to laugh at me?"
"No. Of course not." He chuckled a bit. "I'm just amazed. You really did learn how to cook in the past two months."
He suddenly planted a kiss on my shoulder blades. "But I'm still the one cooking for breakfast."
This time, it was my time to frown. "What? You don't trust my cooking skills?"
"No. Of course, I trust you." He looked at me with an amused smile. "I just want to cook for you and our baby for today."
I finally rolled my eyes at him. "Just tell me you don't trust me."
"Oh. Someone's cranky when hungry," he said playfully. "Alright, fine. Let's just cook together."
After getting up from bed and fixing ourselves, Adam and I went straight to the kitchen.
"What do you want to have for breakfast?" Adam asked while checking my food stocks in the refrigerator. I already did some grocery shopping while he was in Germany.
"Scrambled eggs, bacon, and fried rice."
He turned to me. "Fried rice?"
"Yeah. I was suddenly craving it."
Unlike what we had talked about in bed, Adam dominated the kitchen. In the end, I just let him.
I felt like it was more enjoyable to watch him cook in front of me. Well, he really knew his way in the kitchen. He's delightful to watch. In fact, I'd be willing to pay just to watch him cook in front of me.
"Oh wow. That looks perfect," I couldn't help but mutter when he placed the platter of scrambled eggs on the dining table.
"When did you learn how to cook, Adam?"
He looked at me and smiled. "My grandma taught me how to cook."
"Emerald?" I asked. I couldn't help but glance at the engagement ring that he gave me. I still couldn't believe Adam allowed me to use it.
"Yup. She's a great cook," he said before walking back in front of the stove.
"She seemed like a great lady."
"Yeah, she is. I grew up with her."
Oh. I didn't know that. Well, until now, I still only knew a few things about him. I knew nothing about his childhood.
"What about your mother, Adam? You didn't grow up with her?"
He cleared his throat. "I wasn't really close with her. She was always traveling for work. My Dad and her separated when I was five. My mother left me with him. Well, Dad was also busy with work so he had no choice but to leave me then to his mother, Emerald. My grandmother."
"Do you want lots of garlic in the fried rice, Claire?" Adam turned his head to my direction.
But I wasn't able to answer because I stood up from my seat when the smell of the garlic hit my nose. I ran myself to the bathroom and vomited the whole stomach out.
"Claire…"
I heard Adam's concerned voice on my back. I felt him gently rub my back.
"What happened?" he asked in a gentle voice.
I shut my eyes when I felt another knot in my stomach. "The garlic," was the only thing that I could answer.
"Oh," came his soft reply. "I'm sorry, Claire. No more garlic in this house from now on."
