Chapter 15: Chapter 15

"THANK you for last night, Adam." I told Adam when he fetched me tomorrow afternoon.

The dinner with my parents last night was a success. Now, Adam and I were going to the office to talk about the details of the wedding.

"You don't have to thank me, Claire," he said, glancing at me. "I'm just doing my role as your future husband." He smiled.

"Well, everything went smoothly because of you." I pursed my lips. "Thanks for charming my mother."

He smiled back. "Your mother's nice. I can see why she was a successful politician."

I smiled and comfortably rested on my seat.

"What's wrong?" Adam asked me when he saw me looking at the window. We were already on the road.

Yeah. It was really happening. We were really getting married. My parents wanted to rush the wedding so they agreed for a simple wedding.

I couldn't help but look at the Italian restaurant on the sidewalk.

"I'm suddenly craving pasta." I bit my lower lip when I felt myself salivating.

Damn. Ever since I got pregnant, I've been craving different foods. The other day, I crave for baked mussels.

I had no choice but to disturb Marcus from his work and ask him to search for restaurants who serve baked mussels.

"Do you want to stop by and eat?"

I turned to him. "Can we?"

"Of course, we can." He maneuvered the car towards the restaurant.

I couldn't help my smile as when the waiter welcomed us.

"So, what would you like to have?"

I pursed my lips as I scanned the menu. "I want truffle pasta and orange juice, please. Oh. And a slice of blueberry cheesecake."

"You're really hungry, huh," Adam commented, an amused smile playing on his lips.

I pursed my lips. "Blame it on the baby, Adam. To tell you what, I'm not even a fan of truffle pasta before. And now here I am, craving for it."

He grinned and sipped on his water. "That's what pregnancy does to women."

I looked at him. He seemed at ease. "Are you sure this is okay?" I asked him. "I mean, I know you're a busy person, Adam. Don't you have anything to do today?"

"Ever since we made a deal, you have already become my priority," he answered. "Besides, we should really spend time together and get to know each other, right?”

He was right. I only knew a few things about him. He was going to be my husband for at least a year. And the father of my child. I should at least get to know him better.

Besides, I didn't want anyone to discover about our 'fake relationship' especially my parents. So, we both needed to make an effort to get to know each other.

"You're right." I nodded at him.

Thirty minutes later, our food came. I had a wide smile on my face as I watched the waiter place my order on the table.

"Let's eat." I announced when the waiter left us.

Adam let out a small chuckle.

"What?" My brows furrowed with his expression.

"Nothing." He shook his head. "I just find you cute. You know, you look like a child who's excited to eat."

I felt my cheeks heated up. "Well, whatever." I rolled my eyes at him and started eating.

"Oh, wow. This is good." I couldn't help but comment when I tasted my truffle pasta. I ignored Adam's amused look and ate with so much gusto.

"Claire." Adam said. I stopped eating when I noticed he was staring at me.

"What?"

"You have something on your face."

Before I could react, he had already touched my face and wiped something off my cheek with his thumb.

I suddenly felt a small electric current travel through my skin. I remembered the night we spent together three months ago. Damn.

I cleared my throat. "Thanks, Adam."

His eyes remained on my lips for a moment before he managed to smile. "You're welcome."

"Anyway, I haven't told you this, but I already went to my OB. She told me the baby's safe. And she already gave me some vitamins for me and my baby." I told her in the middle of the meal.

The moment I found out I was pregnant, I immediately visited my OB to confirm everything. I knew I needed to tell Adam about that. He's the father of my baby.

“You should tell me your next appointment with your OB. I wanted to go with you."

I stopped eating. Was he serious?

"Are you sure, Adam?" I asked. "I mean, it's okay with me if I'll do it alone."

His forehead creased. "Have you forgotten that we're going to be husband and wife soon?"

I bit my lower lip. "Oh, right."

"I'm serious when I said I wanted to be a part of our baby's life."

"Alright."

“Adam!" We were both disturbed when an unfamiliar man went to our table.

I looked at the man. Was he Adam's friend?

He was the same height as Adam. He was wearing a polo shirt and maong pants. He was handsome, alright. But not as handsome as Adam in front of her.

"Hey, it was really you, dude."

"Vince." Adam greeted the man before turning to me.

“Claire, this is Vince Saavedra, a friend,” Adam said. “Vince, this is my fiancée, Claire.”

I almost choke on my food with how Adam introduced me to the man. Wow, he was really serious with our setup, huh.

Well, of course. Ten million was on the line for him, Claire. Have you forgotten?

"Fiancée? You're getting married, Adam?"

"You heard me, Vince."

The man looked shocked when he turned to me. "I hope you didn't get offended, Claire." He smiled at me. "I just couldn't believe Adam's finally settling down."

I smiled at him. "It's okay. I understand. Don't worry."

"Anyway, congratulations. When's the wedding, by the way?"

"This weekend. And you're not invited, Vince." Adam said with a grin. "Sorry, family only."

"Oh." Vince just laughed. "It's okay. I'm going back to Germany tomorrow, anyway."

"How did you become friends with Vince?" I asked him when Vince left us.

"Oh. We met in a motocross event in Singapore."

"You do motocross racing?"

"Yeah." He grinned. "That's one of my sports. I also do surfing and other extreme activities."

"Wow," I couldn't help but mutter. Well, he already said that before. He was an adventurous person.

“Thank you, Adam,” I said when we went back to his car. He paid for our entire meal.

Well, he insisted on paying. That was very gentlemanly of him.

“You’re welcome,” he smiled at me before putting on his seatbelt. "Hope you're already satisfied."

I chuckled. "Yeah. Very." I looked at his hand on the steering wheel. His long sleeves were folded up to his elbows. His veiny hands and arms were visible to her. I pursed my lips and looked away before I could think of something dirty.

“Claire?”

I turned to him. “Hmm?”

“You okay?”

I nodded my head.

It took us thirty minutes more on the road before we reached the mayor's office. After that, we both decided to check out my unit. It was a two-bedroom unit. It was already fully furnished and complete with things.

I already filled it with supplies and food stocks. The only things missing here were my personal things.

"Did you personally design this?" he asked, his eyes landing on an abstract painting on the wall.

"No. It was already fully furnished when I bought it."

The interior of the unit was cream colored.

"Do you want to have coffee?" I asked Adam as he sat on the brown leather coach. I saw how his eyes looked around the unit.

“Sure.”

I felt Adam in the living room and went to the kitchen to make his coffee.

I went back to the living room with the cup of coffee in my hand. I found him checking out the small bookshelf in the corner.

“You like books?" he asked, making his way back to the couch.

I placed his coffee on the center table and sat next to him.

"Yeah, I love reading different types of books."

"Well, I noticed." He smiled. "I've already read some of the books on your shelf."

"Really?" My eyes widened in surprise.

He raised his eyebrows. "What? You didn't expect me to be a reader?"

I pursed my lips. "Well… no. I mean, you're already an adventurous person."

"Can't an adventurous person also be a fan of reading books?"

I smiled, guilty. "Well. Sorry for judging you."

We talked about books while he was drinking his coffee. I was amazed by the things that I learned about him. He was a well read person.

"Can I ask you something?" I asked him out of nowhere.

"Sure. What is it?"

I cleared my throat. "What's your plan with the ten million dollars, Adam? I mean… I'm just curious. But you can choose not to answer that."

I mean… sure. Adam was not exactly rich like me. But he wasn't also struggling. He was already a co-owner of a bar.

"I'll put it in a bank. And when I'm ready, I plan to open up my own restobar."

I nodded. "That's nice to hear."

“Thanks for the coffee,” Adam said when he finished his coffee. "Should I drive you home?"

“No. I might stay here tonight."

"Oh. Then I'll go ahead now."

We both stood up from the couch. I walked him to the door of my unit.

“Good night, Claire.”

“Uhm, good night, Adam.”

But instead of walking away, he remained standing on the door frame.

"Did you forget something, Adam?"

He didn't answer me. Instead, his eyes went down to my lips.

“Adam…” Suddenly, his hands went to my waist before capturing my lips in a kiss.

He captured her lips and in a passionate kiss. I closed my eyes and immensely answered back his kisses.

Damn. That feeling of frowning again. I didn't know how long we were kissing in the doorway when his lips moved down to my jaw. His lips trailed kisses there before they traveled down to my neck.

"Adam…" I couldn't help but moan his name.

Adam stopped when his lips reached my neck. I could feel his breath on my skin. It was hot. And electrifying.

“Damn. I really have to go now," he breathed against my skin.

I swallowed hard and nodded. "Yeah. It's getting late. You're still going to drive." My voice was hoarse.

“Good night, Adam. See you tomorrow.”
