Chapter 45: Chapter 45
Sara's P.O.V
I watched as Daniel’s car drove away, leaving me standing alone in the street, but the only image that kept running through my mind was Daniel’s hand. Daniel was wearing a ring and it made me shiver when I looked at my own hand and saw that I was not wearing my ring.
“How is it possible?” I said to myself, clasping my hand over my mouth to stop me from screaming out in fear.
“How could the ring on Daniel's finger look exactly the same as mine? How could he have the same ring?” I said, looking in the direction that his car had left in. I didn't understand why or what was happening after seeing that ring. I felt as though some part of me had gone back to my past. ‘I am going to change your life, I am going to change the lives of both of us, wait for me.’ Those were the last words he spoke to me, I thought to myself.
I walked over to a nearby staircase of a shop and sat down, thinking about the fear he caused in me when he said those words. My fingers went to my lips and I closed my eyes, remembering his kiss. It felt as if he had taken my breath away from me and yet his kiss was so gentle, not aggressive like it was before. Suddenly my phone started to ring in my hand and it made me jump, dropping my phone. I bent down and picked up my phone, seeing that it was Mia that was calling me. But I didn't want to talk at the moment, and so I decided to just message her in the group chat that was created between Mia, Lisa and myself.
Me - Hia, I'm fine and going home.
Lisa - How come you left the party?
Typing...typing….typing….
I didn't know how to answer her question because in all honesty I didn’t know why I had suddenly become depressed and left the party.
Me - I wasn't feeling very well, so I left.
Mia & Lisa - well, we are leaving too and going home now.
I got up from the stairs and started walking back home. It was a long walk and the roads were deserted, but I had to go home and pack up all my belongings so I could move into my new apartment. I hailed a taxi on my way back and reached home in fifteen minutes, but as soon as the taxi stopped outside my house I noticed that the road was completely deserted and the street lights were off.
It felt weird and dangerous, like someone had deliberately turned off all the street lights. I looked all around and the taxi pulled away leaving me there alone, so I quickly ran up the steps and unlocked the front door going inside. I walked towards the stairs, but when I looked back I saw that Dad and Lucy were sitting on the couch, just staring at me and it looked like they were waiting for me to come back.
“Sara, why are you late?!” My dad shouted at me, making me jump. He never scolded me for being late. He never cared enough to and it was only 10pm, but he was treating me as if I had committed a crime. Why?
“What's wrong Dad? Why are you suddenly acting like a father today?” I asked, but my dad closed his mouth. He seemed nervous for some reason. Why is he acting strange? This wasn't his normal behaviour.
“Because he is your father, he can ask you what he likes and he can ask you to do anything!” Lucy angrily said, coming closer to me. What the hell was going on with them? Up until now Lucy had always tried to separate me and my dad, but now she was trying to remind me that he was my father.
“What's wrong with you guys? Why are you suddenly acting like my mom and dad? You never did before. You couldn't care less about me and just wanted me out of the house, so what's changed?” I asked and their faces drained of colour. They must have thought that I wouldn't notice their sudden change towards me, but it was obvious and something was definitely going on.
“Because we are, Sara.” Dad said and I stepped away from him, not wanting to know anymore.
“I don't know what shit you are both planning, but I'm not interested in this. I am leaving this house in half an hour….actually no, I'm leaving this house right now. I'm going to get my bag.” I said and started to walk upstairs towards my room. I let myself into my room and started to pack my clothes and all the important things I would need, but just as I turned around the door to my room suddenly opened and Lucy and my dad walked in.
“You're not going anywhere, Sara.” My dad said, making me look at both of them in confusion.
“What do you mean? You wanted me out and now I'm leaving.” I asked, but suddenly Lucy grabbed the bag in my hand and snatched it away from me.
“What the hell are you doing Lucy?” I shouted and Lucy threw my bag into the hallway.
“You cannot leave this house Sara.” Lucy said walking towards me and this made me angry.
“And who the hell are you to decide when I can or cannot leave!” I shouted and Lucy thrust a piece of paper into my hands.
“What is this?” I asked, unfolding it and looking at it, but I couldn't understand it.
“This is your father’s doing.” Lucy said and I looked at her and my dad.
“What do you mean?” I asked and looked at my dad, who was standing behind Lucy like a coward.
“What the hell did you do this time, dad?” I asked, sensing that he had messed up big time, but he didn't look at me.
“Your father has messed with the local Don of the city, Nolan Hale and he needs to pay millions to him as a repayment for his loan,” Lucy said, causing my mouth to drop open in shock. My dad took a loan out, but not with a normal person. He took it out with the notorious and ruthless Nolan Hale, who kills people without a second thought.
He was a 33 year old man who was well known for killing, kidnapping, drugs and money lending. He used to lend money to people and those who couldn't return the money would be killed. I looked at the slip again and now I understood everything. It was a debt slip and he had taken money from the Don, that's why those people in black were here this morning; they were Nolan’s men.
“How can you do this dad?” I asked, still shocked that he would be this stupid.
“I needed money, Sara. I needed it for things and I thought I could double the money, but I lost it all in gambling.” Dad said, making me so angry that the slip of paper was being screwed up in my hand.
“I TOLD YOU A MILLION TIMES NOT TO GAMBLE! YOU TOOK MY SAVINGS AND EVEN THE JEWELLERY THAT MOM LEFT ME! YOU SOLD EVERYTHING AND THEN WANTED ME TO LEAVE MY OWN HOUSE! YOU LEFT ME SO HELPLESS THAT I NEEDED TO GO AND GET AN ADVANCE ON MY WAGES! DO YOU KNOW HOW HUMILIATING IT WAS, LISTENING TO ALL THEIR INSULTS!? WHAT MORE DO I NEED TO SEE?!” I shouted out in anger, my voice echoing throughout the room. My dad didn't say anything, while I started to take long deep angry breaths.
“No, enough is enough,” I said, finally putting my foot down with all of this, but my dad just looked at me, scared at seeing my serious face.
“What do you mean?” My dad asked, as I threw the debt slip in his face.
“This is your shit and you are the one who is responsible for it. I am not related to any of this mess and I am leaving home as it was decided,” I replied angrily, looking between the scared faces of Lucy and my dad.
“No! You are not going anywhere!” Lucy said, grabbing my hand tightly, while my dad blocked the door.
“Why? Why can't I leave the house?” I asked, trying to pull my hand out of Lucy’s grasp, but she just tightened her grip even more and made me cry out in pain.
“Because you will save your father,” Lucy said and I stopped struggling. How could I save him?
“What the hell are you talking about? Have you lost your mind? How can I save dad, when I don't have any money? I can't help him,” I asked, but Lucy just smiled at me.
“Yes, you don't have any money, but you have your body. You will be the repayment of Victor’s debt,” Lucy said, slyly smirking at me. My face turned white when I understood what she was talking about; they were going to sell me to the Don.
“WHAT?! NO! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING?! I'M A HUMAN, NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN SELL! I WON'T DO IT! THERE IS NO WAY I WILL HELP EITHER OF YOU!” I shouted, but Lucy slapped me hard across the face and pushed me down to the floor, using all her strength.
“I wasn't asking you, bitch I was telling you. You have no choice. Your father has already signed the papers with them. I will not let anything happen to my husband and my son. You are going to get married to Nolan tomorrow and after that you will have nothing to do with us. We will sell this house and leave the city. Nolan will handle you and your bitchy attitude. He has already seen the photo that was taken of you this morning and luckily he liked you. Your slut body has attracted him to the level that he wants to marry you, so you should consider yourself lucky that he plans to make you his wife instead of his whore,” Lucy said, and I was now more determined than ever to leave this house. I got up from the floor and ran to my dad, holding his hand and begging him.
“Dad, what is Lucy saying? I don't want to get married, dad. I promise, I promise that I'll leave the house and your family alone. I will never come back, but I don't want to marry that Don,” I pleaded, but Dad just pushed me away from him and looked angrily at me.
“Everything has been decided and if you act like your bitch mother we will all die. You are Nolan’s property and you are getting married to him tomorrow,” my dad said, making me feel angry again.
“No! It is my life and I will decide what I will and won't do. I do not want to get married to anyone. You are not the owner of my life, you cannot decide what I do and don't do. It's your gambling and your debt. I am leaving this house right now,” I said, but before I could move Lucy pushed me back, causing my phone to drop out of my hand. Lucy immediately picked up my phone and ran out of the room, just as my dad closed the door behind her. I panicked and ran to the door, but it was too late. They had locked me inside my own room.
