Chapter 38: Chapter 38

Daniel’s P.O.V

Everyone was dressed in black and the mansion was quickly filling up with bodyguards and guests. Jackson and I walked up to the front door and all the bodyguards bowed their heads in respect to us. We entered the mansion and the whole place was silent, with everyone paying their respects to my late grandfather. Everyone turned and looked at me in surprise when I walked in, none of them were expecting me to be here today, but I just ignored them. There was a coffin in the middle, but I didn't pay any attention to it, there was only one person I wanted to see here and that was my mother.

“Daniel, daniel, my son.” Mom called me and when I turned around she was running towards me. She wrapped her arms around me and hugged me tightly, even though her tears were streaming down her face she was still smiling and happy to see me. It had been several months since I had seen her, but I still called her and had only spoken to her this month. I knew that she was surprised to see me because I made a promise when I left. Jackson was standing next to me, but his eyes were on his own mother who was slowly coming over to him, next thing I know jackson has run over to her and is hugging her.

“I told you not to walk too much, I was coming over to you.” Jackson said and his mother just smiled and nodded. He was looking at the men who were standing in a line near us.

“He is not here.” Jackson's mother said, but Jackson just looked away and tried to act normal. I carried on hugging my mother, but I was not looking at her, I was looking at the thing standing behind her, my father. I could feel my anger bubbling up and coursing through me as I glared at him, shooting daggers with my eyes at him. My mom must have seen what was happening because next thing I knew she was cupping my face and making me look at her.

“Daniel, please obey me. Don't make a scene here. Your grandfather has died today and I do not want you to show any disrespect in front of our guests. Promise me that you will not say or do anything in front of the guests.” Mom said and I nodded, giving my father one last angry glare before taking my mother to sit down.

“Rest assured, I will behave. How long have you been standing for? Come on, let's sit down.” I said and sat my mother down on the couch next to Jackson's mother.

“How can I sit down and rest when all the guests are standing up?” Mom said repeatedly. I looked at my mothers bewildered eyes and when I looked I saw that her eyes were on Lola and her son Alexander who were looking straight at me and my mother. Lola was nervously looking at my mother and as soon as she saw that I was looking at her she looked away and went to my father, caressing his chest and comforting him. I looked back at my mother, but she had lowered her eyes and after seeing this I was boiling with anger. My mother held my hands in hers and smiled at me. Just then Jacob came in after doing some other things and as soon as he saw my mother he smiled and she went straight to him and hugged him.

Nora’s P.O.V (Daniel’s mother)

“Mother, how are you?” Jacob asked me, smiling down at me.

“I am good and glad to see you Jacob.” I replied, smiling and hugged him once more. Daniel and Jacob sat beside me and were talking to me. Daniel’s grandfather's coffin was still there, but Daniel had not gone to see him for the last time yet and instead he just ignored everything and everyone around him. He was treating everyone and everything as if they were invisible and the guests were starting to whisper about him. I looked at Robert and noticed that he was embarrassed by Daniel's behaviour.

“Daniel, go and see your grandfather. He is going to be leaving us soon and this is your last chance, son.” I asked, trying to convince him, but he held my hand and stopped me talking. I knew I was making a failed attempt at trying to convince him, but I needed to at least try. Daniel just looked at me, smiled and then pulled his hand away from mine.

“Mom, I have not come here for any of these stupid things. I have a business meeting in half an hour and I am leaving. I will meet you tonight.” Daniel said and stood up, with Jacob quickly following suit. Jackson was busy talking with his mother but as soon as he saw Daniel stand up and gestured to him, he hugged his mother and stood up to leave with Daniel and jacob.
