Chapter 36: Chapter 36

Jasper was on mute, but when turned the phone and heard the message, he knew not what to say or how to react though he was happy that Stacie was alive. Stacie called him back.

“Jasper, hello, say something,” Stacie chuckled on the line.

“I thought you’re dead,” Jasper finally spoke.

“I thought I did too, hum,” she giggled. “Have you found her yet?”

“No I haven’t, Stacie I don’t even know her name and I can’t open the book,” he deadpanned “besides since I left the cabin, I haven’t stepped out, my brother has helped me find her.”

“I understand why you can’t go out, it’s too risky, the cops mustn’t even see you or else you’d get locked up in mental institution like our friends.”

Jasper laughed, “ yeah right. I’m happy you’re awake, l like to say Louie almost killed Danielle” “I left before the doctor saw me, I use the back door out but I stayed hidden to see y’all getting packed in the ambulances and I brought our stuffs back home.”

Ah, ah, Jasper, “you’re a darling, I will definitely burn everything in that box, everything that I took to the cabin” she hissed.

“I burnt mine too, it’s just too much to hold in.”

“Jasper I’m sorry I didn’t believe you, on behalf of everyone I’m sorry.”

“No it’s fine we should be happy we’re out, we just gotta find where they buried her and get it over with to move on with our lives,” Jasper said scratching his stubble. “You should talk to the cops tell them everything and clear my name, I miss going outside,” he pleaded.

“Yeah I will do that, hold on a sec. “

“Dad can I get to talk to a cop or whoever from the police department I gotta let them know what happened,” Stacie said.

“Yes the cop’s came and they gave us an order to let them know once you’re awake, I’ll call the lieutenant Marshall over,” her father said and excused himself.

“You hear that? You’ll be out soon.”

They spoke for some more minutes before ending the call.

Lieu Marshall did not waste time before he went to the hospital with his Partner Sonia behind him. When he got to Stacie ward they ushered him in.

“Congrats for cheating death,” he told Stacie, she gave him one of her best smile.

“I’m Lieu Marshall,” holding his hand out for a shook, Stacie shook him in a firm grip and introduced his partner Tonia, as he pointed to her and she smiled at Stacie.

“Thank you for allowing us to come to do our job, Mr. and Mrs. Juan.” Lieu Marshall said.

“Stacie can you remember everything that happened?” the police asked, and Tonia recorded their conversation.

“Yes I do,” she confirmed his question.

“Can you tell us please? “ What happened?

She nodded in reply.

Stacie started, “ Before I go into the story I just want to let everyone know that my friend Jasper Marcel is the best friend that we all could ask for and the best anyone could wish for. He really stood for us, but what did we do, we took it for granted. If only we’d listen to him, we would have fought it together instead of letting him fight for us alone whilst we did nothing.

But went our different way and it nearly led to my death, but I’m happy to be alive, and my friends and brother were somewhere in a mental institution.

Stacie pause and took deep breaths.

The memories of what happened was just too much, Stacie let her tears to flow. Tonia paused the recorder to let her recover her composure.

“Its okay Stacie,” her mother patted her back.

“No it’s not, we were happy, we were so much happy,” she sniffed and cried the more.

“We would come back another time Stacie if it is too much for you,” Lieu Marshall reassured her.

“No it’s not, I’m doing this once and for all,” she replied to comfort herself.

She wiped her face with the hospital bed sheets.

Lieu Marshall told her to hold on, he wondered what kept Jonathan the media guy and his crew.

He waited for about five minutes and they showed up. After setting the cameras and video on, Stacie used the time to make up her face and calmed down.

“Are you ready Stacie?” Tonia asked.

“Yes” she replied.

“Start,” Tonia gave her a thumb up.

It was a live video.

Stacie started, “ like I said earlier Jasper is the best friend we had.” She smiled, the night we arrived at the cabin, we got there late because we left home tardy. Somebody neatly arranged the cabin when we entered, everywhere looked tidy. But Danielle said she had not visited the place since she was nine and that was the last time anyone ever visited the cabin until we did.

Jasper was the first among us to see ghosts. “I think Patrick did too I’m not so sure,” she paused. “I won’t waste time on this.” Jasper saw the ghost her name was Elena Martins, “may her soul rest in peace,” and she told Jasper that our coming to the cabin was a mistake.

We should never have come but now that we did we must avoid a book like a diary she said: It contained illness, disorder, and death. “We must never open the book and read the content. Jasper warned us but out of foolishness we didn’t listen to him. All of a sudden the ghosts haunted us, I never believed ghost exists until I felt it.
