Chapter 13: Chapter 13
Author's POV
Chase was driving back to his apartment after dropping Cara off to her dorm.
He can’t stop the fluttering of his heart and butterflies in his stomach yet.
He can’t believe that a simple kiss could make him feel like this. No it wasn’t just a simple kiss, it was much more than that.
Only he knows how he controlled himself from not devouring her whole.
He literally is in pain due to the hard-on he has and it’s all just because of a kiss, he can’t believe it.
But she tasted so good. She felt so soft against his hard body.
He wasn’t planning on kissing her tonight, not yet. He thought it would be too forward of him and she might not like it. He was planning on waiting for some more time before claiming those tempting lips.
Other thing that he was planning for their first kiss was that he wanted to kiss her after asking for her permission.
You know how he is trying to be a gentleman around her. Like opening a car door for her, pulling chair for her in the restaurant, asking for her to choose what she wants to eat, and everything.
These are the things he has never done before for anyone. He was never such a gentleman nor he has changed over a night.
He is still that cold bastard who never cares about others.
But he is trying everything for her. He is trying to treat her in the way she should be treated. She deserves to be treated with care, with respect and he is trying to do that for her.
He wanted to take her consent before kissing her for the first time. But when she bit her lips like that in front of him, which she always did whenever she was nervous, he noticed that, he could not stop himself anymore.
He was like, f**k trying to be a gentleman, f**k the permission, f**k everything else and just focus on those luscious plumps which have been inviting him to devour them for a while now.
And when he really kissed her, it was heaven. It was out of this world. He noticed her inexperience but it was still the best kiss he had ever had in his entire life.
He loved how her face had turned into a shade of pink when he pulled away. He was happy that she didn’t mind him kissing her and actually reciprocated his kisses.
After sitting on lakeside in silence for a little longer than expected, pressed against each other, he dropped her back to her dorm.
He walked her to the main gate of the dorm and then watched her getting into the building but not before claiming those lips one more time for a good night kiss.
It’s just that, he wasn’t getting enough of her.
He reached his apartment and made his way inside with a small smile on his lips when his eyes fell on the person sitting on one of the couch in living room.
His smile vanished and his face became cold and expressionless instantly.
The man was looking angry but Chase couldn’t care less. He just ignored the man and made his way into the kitchen to get himself a glass of water.
“Can’t you be a little respectful? Don’t you see your father sitting in front of your eyes?” Frank, his father gritted from behind him entering into the kitchen.
“Oh so it’s my father who is present here right now? I thought Mr. Mayor is here. And you know very well I don’t like politics nor politicians” Chase replied in a mocking tone.
He again walked past his father and came out in the living room, sitting on the single couch.
“What did you do with Mr. Smith’s son Lawrence? Why did you beat him up and that too in the college campus?” Frank asked and Chase chuckled humourlessly.
Chase smirked as he asked, “Aren’t you too late? It’s already been almost three days since that incidence and you are asking me about that now? But again….”
Chase paused as his eyes turned even more cold when past memories came rushing back to his mind and he continued, “You were never on time in your life, were you?”
“It’s your habit to come at a time when nothing can be done about the situation, when everything is ruined, when everything that’s left to do is just watch and walk away” he said blankly.
“So why don’t you just walk away this time too. The door is over there” he said while pointing towards the door.
“You are not going to talk to me like that boy. Just tell me why did you do that?” Frank spat.
“To piss you off of course and I can see it worked quite well” Chase shrugged.
“And anyways it wasn’t the first time I did something like this why are you so shocked” he asked while getting up and walking in the direction of his room. Not even waiting for him to reply.
He was just about to turn the knob of his bedroom door when he heard his father’s voice and his body froze.
“Who is that girl Cara? I heard you got into fight because of her”
His face hardened, eyes turned cold as his hands balled into tight fists. He turned around and all humour and amusement was gone from his face.
“None of your business. Now I am really done playing around with you so, just f**k off” he grated out.
“Were you with her this evening? Is she the reason behind the smile on your face when you entered…” Frank couldn’t complete his sentence when Chase punched the wall with his fist.
“Don’t you dare talk about her. I don’t want to hear anything about her from that mouth of yours… so just go..” he shouted.
Frank’s eyes widened when he saw his son’s anger. “Chase listen son.. I know I did wrong but….”
Chase grabbed the vase placed on the table beside his room’s door and smashed it on the floor as he shouted again, “Just go!”.
Frank sighed but upon seeing Chase’s condition he just didn’t have any choice except to go away for now. Even though he didn’t want to leave.
Once Frank was out of his apartment Chase slid down against the door of his bedroom.
He shook his head vigorously as he started blabbering to himself, “It’s okay Chase.. it’s okay. You have to calm down. He will not be able to ruin everything again… you won’t let him.”
But those flashbacks, those memories weren’t going away from his mind. He screamed in frustration holding his head in between his palms.
But nothing was working. Whenever he sees this man, everything just comes rushing back to him, trying to pull him to those moments which he eagerly wants to forget about.
He punched the floor with his already raw knuckles, “Why.. why did he have to come?” He punched again with even more force, “why can’t he just leave me alone?”
One more punch as he mumbled, “Why does he have to ruin everything?”
“Why… why… why…” he shouted while punching the floor again and again. Now there was a red spot on the floor due to all the punching.
He let out a frustrated groan and leaned his head back, resting it against the door behind him. He rubbed his aching temple with his bruised hand.
He doesn’t want those memories to come back to him again. He wants to remove these horrible scenes from his mind but they are not going away.
He closed his eyes to just turn away from those memories and it worked. As soon as he closed his eyes, Cara’s beautiful face came to his mind.
And he felt warmth spreading across his whole body. His eyes snapped open.
‘What is this feeling?’
He started having this strong urge to see her in front of his eyes. He lifted his eyes up to look at the time on the wall clock and it’s about midnight right now.
He can’t just go there in this state at this hour of time.
Last time he went there was to check if she was okay or not. At least he had an excuse. Not a logical one but an excuse nonetheless. But what about tonight?
‘What will he say to her? How will she feel to find him at her doorstep looking all messed up?’
He lifted himself up from the floor and made his way to the freeze pulling out two cans of bear. He opened one can pouring it down his throat.
It might work in pushing those memories away. He tried to take Cara out of his mind but as soon as he pushed her thoughts away all those memories came rushing back to him, squeezing his heart in a painful grip.
“F**k” he threw the empty can away and abruptly turned around to make his way towards the door. He pulled his car keys out of his pocket and drove to her dorm.
He knocked on the door of her room and came her beautiful voice. Just upon hearing her melodious voice, half of his anxiety disappeared.
She opened the door to look at him with shocked eyes. And he was surprised by the fact, how just looking at her is calming his burning insides.
She was about to say something when suddenly her eyes fell on his hand and he saw how her face became pale.
He followed her gaze and she was staring at his bloodied knuckles. He looked up to find her staring at him with those scared eyes.
Then he remembered their second meeting in the hallway of college. She had flinched from his touch saying he has blood on his hands.
‘Is she scared of blood?’ he thought.
He lifted his hand and hid it behind his back still staring into her eyes. She noticed his actions.
Her fear got replaced with concern when she noticed the sadness, the pain in those gray orbs.
Chase was feeling a little better now after seeing her but didn’t know what to say to her.
He noticed many questions emerging in her eyes. She is definitely going to ask him, ‘What happened to him?’ and he was dreading that question.
But yet again she asked something which he never expected.
“Are you okay?” she asked softly and he could see the concern in her eyes.
“I think, now I am” he whispered back feeling his fears going away all of a sudden in her presence.
“Can I come in?” he asked and she moved away from the door making a way for him. At this point she is sure about one thing, that he is not going to hurt her physically.
She remembers when Aria told her that Chase came to the café on the day he fought with Law in the college cafeteria. He came looking for her and actually looked concerned just like how Sapphire had told her.
She has seen concern in his eyes for herself.
He entered into her room and she told him to sit on the bed as she disappeared in the bathroom.
His eyes were fixed to the door where she disappeared. After few minutes she came out with a first aid kit in her hand.
She sat down on the floor in front of him and took his hand in hers, examining the wounds.
He just kept staring at her face without blinking. She still looked a little scared. Yet, here she was taking care of the wound on his hand and the pain in his heart.
She started bandaging his hand after cleaning his bruises. Her eyes were fixed on his hand while he didn’t move his gaze from her face.
“If you don’t mind can I ask you something?” she asked still keeping her eyes on his hand.
He wasn’t sure if he will be able to answer her questions but still nodded his head with a whisper, “You can”.
“How did this happen? Did you…” she gulped and he could see fear in those blue eyes as she continued, “Did you get…”
He didn’t let her finish her sentence as he said, “I didn’t get into fight. You don’t have to be scared or worried”.
He remembered her telling him that she doesn’t like fights. But to him it seems like, she is scared of fights.
She lifted her eyes to meet with his intense ones. The pain was still there in his smokey gray orbs but it had lessened than the time he was standing outside of her dorm room.
“You came here, is there any reason? Do you have something to say to me?” She wanted to know if he came here to say something to her. Can she help him in reducing that pain in his heart which is reflecting in his eyes.
He shook his head and said, “I don’t know. I don’t know why I am here”.
He chuckled lightly as he said, “Now that I think about it, I say that a lot these days. ‘I don’t know'. Just like I don’t know why I get angry when someone looks at you, I don’t know why I just want to keep looking at you and now I don’t know why I am here”.
“I am doing many things these days and I don’t even know the reasons, why. I just do everything without any reason, wherever you are concerned” he completed while staring deeply into her eyes.
She was just staring into the depths of those orbs which were yet again swirling with thousands of emotions. Her fear long forgotten.
His eyes dropped to her lips and he just wanted to press his own against them.
“You know how badly I want to kiss you right now?” her breathing hitched as heat rushed to her face, tinting her face which had paled a while ago, into light shade of pink.
He lifted his eyes to lock them with hers as he said, “But I stink of beer right now. And I don’t want you to taste any alcohol for the first time from my mouth”.
He had noticed her crinkling her nose when he was entering into the room. And he knew that either she had never had alcohol before or she doesn’t like it. He strongly believes it’s the first one.
“How did you know that I never had alcohol before?” she asked in surprise and she looked so adorable with wide eyes.
He reached his unbruised hand up to caress her face softly as he replied, “Because my Cara, you are so pure for something toxic like alcohol”. She blushed even more at his endearment and he realized how much he loves this colour on her face.
He removed his hand from her face and patted the bed beside him, telling her without words to sit beside him.
She got up and sat down beside him. As soon as she sat, he rested his temple on her shoulder and her body froze for a second before relaxing again.
There was complete silence in the room. The only sound coming was of their breathing until he decided to break the silence.
“I am sorry for disturbing your sleep at this hour of time. But I…I just couldn’t help myself. I was feeling like if I didn’t see you, I won’t be able to breath properly” he paused and she was shocked to hear whatever he was saying.
“I was in so much pain. I was surrounded by this darkness. It felt as if it was just waiting to swallow me as whole. I just wanted to push all of those memories away, wanted to get out of that darkness. But you know, I wasn’t able to do it. Until…”
He reached forward and held her hand in his intertwining their fingers together.
Both of their eyes fixed on their interlocked hands.
Cara didn’t say anything. Just waited for him to continue. She knew he was again leaving his emotions bare in front of her, being completely honest with his emotions.
He was telling her something which he wouldn’t have done if he was sober.
He was letting his pain out in front of her and she didn’t want anything else except for him to feel at ease.
But his next words managed to increase the speed of her already rapidly beating heart.
“Until your face came to my mind. Your thoughts somehow managed to pull me out of that darkness letting me see the light again. I suddenly had this urge to see you”
“But it was so late. I didn’t want to disturb you, I really didn’t. I tried pushing your thoughts away by drinking but as soon as you were out of my mind, the darkness started crawling back to me. And I just couldn’t help but come here”.
Cara was extremely shocked to hear his words.
Is he telling her the truth? Yes she can feel the honesty of his words. She witnessed his body relaxing after he entered into her room. She saw pain in his eyes reducing as well.
His eyes started dropping as sleep started consuming him.
“Something is wrong with me Cara. And again I don’t know what’s wrong with me” he whispered in sleepy voice as sleep consumed him completely.
Cara was stunned still trying to digest everything that he just said. She doesn’t know for how long she just sat there letting him sleep while resting his head on her shoulder.
She looked down at him. He is going to have a sore neck if he kept sleeping like this.
She softly moved his body letting him rest his back on the bed. It was not as easy as it sounded, considering the sizes of their bodies.
But still she tried doing it as gently as possible. She tried getting up from the bed after making him lie down but his hold on her hand tightened and she fell on the bed beside him due to force.
He pulled their locked hands near his chest, as if trying to keep it secure closer to his heart.
She muffled the shriek that left from her mouth upon seeing the relaxed expressions on his face.
He is still sleeping.
His chest was still heaving up and down steadily. He was even snoring a little indicating that he is fast asleep.
She noticed creases on his forehead. She pulled her hand from her mouth and slowly reached to remove his hairs from his eyes.
She touched his forehead to soothe those creases and slowly they started disappearing causing his features to relax even more.
She caressed his face with her fingertips when her eyes fell on his lips for a second and the heat rushed to her face immediately, thinking about the kiss, actually kisses she shared with him earlier this evening.
'You are not the only one who is doing unexpected things without knowing any reason Chase.' whispering these words to his sleeping form she let herself slip into a deep slumber.
Ignoring her rapidly beating heart due to their close proximity.
