Chapter 60: Chapter 60
She was walking toward us with a smile that looked peaceful and lovely, yet it was deceitful in my eyes. My heart was racing with every part of me shaking, even as I tried to compose myself. My fear was what next would be her action, as it can't be read from her face.
I glanced at Blake and saw the same fear in his eyes mixed with readiness. His fists were already clenched as he also pinned his eyes on his mother. I knew at the moment, he wouldn't hesitate to strike at her if she ever tried to hurt me. He wouldn't let her or anyone hurt me again, which was nice of him, but I was feeling nothing but deep sadness.
I shouldn't have said that secret rashly while knowing that the walls had ears. There are many secret places to say it out, but I foolishly blurted it out, and that will mark the end of this romance we thought was about to blossom.
It was clear I might end up leaving this place again and going into hiding, which was what kept piercing my heart like a spear.
She finally got close, and every smile on her face vanished instantly as she trailed her eyes from me to Blake, her son. Both eyebrows arched in what seemed like confusion.
"Why are you both staring at me that way? What happened?" She inquired, drawing close to me, which made my feet stumble back in fear that she was about to attack me. Blake was also quick to advance, studying every one of her movements so as to know when to defend me.
"Jeez! You are suddenly scared of me?!" She gasped and darted her eyes towards Blake.
"She is afraid of me just now! Blake, what did you tell her? Why is she so frightened of me just after spending time with you in the bathroom!" Her tone was raised this time, and she looked so angry.
"I told her nothing. Stop the pretense and....."
"Blake!" I called out sharply, stopping him from saying any other thing, as I began to feel sceptical about my discovery. The woman right here doesn't in any way look like she was pretending. And there is equally no reason why she would pretend when she is the queen here.
She won't hesitate to get me killed if she ever finds out I was a wolf, just as she did before.
"Don't hush me, I...."
"What is going on here?" Blake's mother grimaced as she kept shifting her gaze between me and Blake, to and fro with a befuddled gawp.
I was about to say something when a maid stepped out of the dungeon route, scurrying forward like she was being chased.
"Hey!" I called for her, but there was no reply as she bowed to us and took her leave. Her vampire smell was exactly the same and, just as I had traced, she had just come out of that dungeon. So she is the one!
"Who is she?" I asked with a gulp, as it really dawned on me that she must have been the one who heard my secret. And again, why did she just ignore my call?
"She is the deaf dungeon cleaner. She can't hear you. That's why when you called her she ignored you, "Blake explained, and a heavy sigh of relief escaped my lips.
That smile that couldn't appear on my face came in as I felt like a fresh breath of life had just spread inside me. I had been scared for nothing. She was at the door of the room, but heard nothing.
"Blake and Nina, what prank are you both playing on me just now?!" Angelina, Blake's mother, half-yelled, stamping her feet on the ground, and just immediately, I burst into laughter and winked at Blake. Luckily, he was wise enough to join me in laughing.
"We got you!!" I chirped and hugged her tight, forcing her to join in the laughter, but not after smacking Blake's head and pinching my cheeks softly.
"You were scared, huh?" I giggled, and she nodded with giggles, taking our hands.
"You both shouldn't play such a prank on me. It was so expensive. You don't know how afraid I was that you had begun to be scared of me due to something Blake must have told you about me." She whined as she led us downstairs.
"It was all prank. We are sorry" I responded with a peck on her cheek and could see her flush red as she blushed.
"You really love Nina that you were so flustered seeing her act that way towards you. I could see you were ready to fight me if I was the one that made her act that way towards you," Blake added, and she laughed again, nodding in excitement.
Blake crossed his head behind her back and gave me a questioning look.
"She isn't the one who heard the secret," I mouthed, making sure no single word sounded out.
He grinned and nodded, blowing a kiss at me.
"Finally, they are here. New lovers in town!" Blake's father, who had been waiting for us, announced with a joyous tone as his face brightened with satisfying smiles, especially when he gazed at me.
I couldn't help the gasp that slipped off my lips as I saw the different dishes set on the table. All are served on royal plates and cutleries. The golden light from the chandelier was giving it a grand view, which was really beautiful.
I can't believe they made such arrangements because of me. It was all showing in their eyes how much they were proud of me for changing their son.
" First of all, Blake, there was no need to lie that she was a maid to you when it was clear in your eyes that you were falling in love at last!!" His dad was the first to break the silence when we were all settled down and eating.
"I thought talking while eating is something you hardly do. Have you suddenly changed?" Blake cackled, and he nodded, grinning from ear to ear.
"Yes, I have changed. Is she your maid or the future queen of this kingdom?" He asked directly, making me muffle laughter as Blake glanced at me.
"We know the question is unnecessary since it is clear in your eyes and every action toward her. We just want to hear it from your lips," his mother, who couldn't hold back, chipped in.
"Okay, the girl beside me here is my queen. My mate and the fated one. Can you both rest now?" He chuckled, and they both began to clap while I kept giggling to myself.
It was really beautiful to see their reactions. It gave me peace of mind and I couldn't help but thank the moon goddess for my hybrid ability to hide my wolf nature. For real, like a dream, I was going to spend my life with my love.
But that would only happen if my secret wasn't leaked. Once anyone here finds out I am a wolf, it will lead to my death. Nothing can change that.

Jace's POV.
It was till midnight before I could finally get to the actual packhouse where she was staying with her parents. They had relocated and warned no one who knew where they were not to tell anyone.
It was the measure taken to protect their only daughter in case Sophia ever comes to look for her. It was the hardest part of my journey to meet her, and at some point, I thought of giving up. I was making only a little progress in hours, worn out and hungry from the scorching heat of the sun, yet I was never giving up.
She was the only one that mattered in my entire life. I have no one in my life again, not even a pack. My mate is the only one that can give me peace and joy, which my heart needed. I might be lucky to get her to remember me if I get to meet her earlier before the effect sinks deeper.
Luckily for me, there was an old woman who believed and trusted me. She took me to their pack house, which was on the outskirts of the pack and quite hidden. Words can't explain how I feel. Just when I was thinking I had lost every chance of seeing her again, here I am in front of her pack house.
I knocked in excitement, taking glances at the bright moon, which illuminated the whole place, adding to the beauty of the shining stars. It was all a great sight, especially as I would be meeting my mate a few seconds later.
The door creaked and I was already gasping, my eyes getting wet as I tried to control my emotions. I was really trying hard not to scream and break down the door as it was taking time to be opened.
I know they are wondering who was at the door, and I could have called my name, but I want a surprise visit that will leave my mate's parents giddy.
I was expecting her parents to open the door, as I guessed she might still be weak or unconscious, but I was wrong, absolutely wrong, because the moment the door gave way, I was standing right in front of her.
I stood in front of my beautiful Bella, who the goddess had blessed my life with. The girl that possessed my entire being. She was standing elegantly in front of me with those bright and glistening brown eyes resting on me.
My lips were agape as I kept gasping and swallowing lumps forming in my throat. Hot tears were already forming in my eyes as I watched her scan and scrutinize my face intently.
She wasn't saying anything, nor was I.
I can only pray she remembers me. I could only plead to the moon goddess to give her back at least a little bit of the memories we shared together.
"Why are there tears gathering in your eyes?" She finally broke the silence, furrowing her brows as she didn't make any attempt to break the eye contact.
"I...I..." I was struggling to breathe as my emotions kept battering me.
"Your name is...." she paused and drew her face closer to mine so that our lips were an inch apart. Her hot breath on my face sent sensations through my whole body as I lowered my eyes to those inviting lips, wondering if I should just do it.
"Your face is familiar and I am thinking about your name " she added, and this time, she touched my cheeks, wiping away the tears that had just rolled down.
"Can you remember me at all?" I asked with a wide smile as I took a deep breath.
"Jace!!!!" She screamed out, and I felt like I was floating. She didn't just scream my name, but ran into me with a tight hug.
